Pukin` Pumpkin Procedure
The Anchor
Give Thanks
By:Shelby Maldonado
Thanksgiving is a holiday where family and friends come together
to feast and give thanks for the many blessings they have been
given in their life. Family and friends will cook turkey, dressing,
ham, and many other foods that represent this holiday. After this
feast, games are brought out from closets and casual competition
takes place between family members.
Thanksgiving only comes once a year, and for some people, this is
the only time of the year they spend with their family and friends
and celebrate how thankful they are for each other. Why do
people only give thanks and spend time with family on Thanksgiving? People should spend time with their family and be thankful
for them every chance they get.
Senior Spotlight
Ben
Bertram
By: Brianne Coe
You may see this boy running up and down the basketball court or running around 1st, 2nd, or 3rd base on the
baseball field. I interviewed Ben this week and asked him
what he was going to miss the most about senior year
and he said,” Seeing Mr. Allen’s beautiful face every day.”
He said Chemistry was his favorite class of the day. I
also asked him what his best high school memory was so
far and he said, “Ghost Hunting…” Concluding our interview, I asked him what he was going to miss the most
about high school and he said, “Definitely baseball and all
my friends.” Enjoy the rest of your senior year Ben and
good luck in the future!
Lesley
Roy
The other senior spotlight is Ms.
Lesley Roy. You will see this girl of the golf
course and running up and down the hall
from Spanish to Ag to WLKR. Lesley told
me that her favorite thing about senior year
is that it is a little more relaxed and it is not
as stressful. She also told me her favorite
class was STARS with Mrs. Kelly Aaron and
Ag Math with Mrs. Wethington. Her favorite
high school memory so far is the Haunted
Woods with Jalena Barnes. I asked her what
she will miss the most about high school and
she said,”Golfing and seeing all my friends
every day.” Good luck in college Lesley and
have a fun rest of the year!

Ill Pumpkin
Instead of making the usual pumpkin pie, why not take that pumpkin and spill its innards? There
is a simple science experiment that can be done in the comfort of your home and can use up those extra
pumpkins you have from Halloween.
Materials needed:
Hydrogen peroxide (12%) Can be found in the hair care section
Liquid dish soap
Food coloring
One package of dry yeast
Two small cups
Pre cut Pumpkin (of course)
Pukin’ Pumpkin Procedure:
First fill the cup with 30 mililiters of 12% hydrogen peroxide. Afterwards one squirt of dish soap and the
food coloring. Once you have mixed this solution, lower it into the pumpkin. Then in a seperate container
or cup mix the package of yeast and four tablespoons of warm water. When you have completed this step
pour the mixture into the cup you lowered into the pumpkin earlier.
You will begin to see a foamy mesh ooze out of the orpheus you previously cut into the pumpkin.
What is actually happening is oxygen molecules are being released as you pour your catalyst (yeast)
into the cup filled with hydrogen peroxide. As the oxygen passes through the dish soap small bubbles
are being formed. Which in turn creates the foam. When all this is taking place an energy is being
formed from the reaction. If you were to feel the cup you will notice that the cup’s exterior is warm.
