TOURNAMENTS › HISAMUDDIN ALAM SHAH TROPHY THE RETURN OF BRAGGING RIGHTS Old Course 10 May 2015 By Kam Omar ● 66 The annual Hisamuddin Alam Shah Trophy was played on the Old Course on the morning of 10 May 2015, based on Net Strokeplay. This trophy competition was started in 1955 and named after the Sultan of Selangor at that time namely Tuanku Hisamuddin Alam Shah. It is open to members of all golf clubs in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor having a USGA handicap index of 16.0, or a club handicap of 18, and below. A total of 80 players including 24 from other golf clubs took part. The other participating clubs were Kelab Golf Negara Subang, Kelab Di Raja Kg Kuantan, Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, Tropicana Golf and Country Resort, Kota Permai Golf and Country Club, Bukit Beruntung Golf and Country Club, Kelab Golf and Country Kuala Kubu Bahru, Kelab Rekreasi Tentera Udara and Kelab Golf Darul Ehsan. It is not a given that a Member will win this competition due to home ground advantage. In fact, the Defending Champion is from another club. It is expected, however, that Members will have a competitive advantage due to local knowledge. The home club had a dozen or so single handicappers playing led by our Junior Champion Leong Chun Yan (1) and our Club Champion Carl Lai (4). The day proved to be hard on all golfers with stifling heat and soft ground conditions making the course play long. As the competitors trooped into the Clubhouse at lunchtime and submitted their scores, it was evident that playing to one’s handicap was the order of the day. Very few, however, managed to do that. Those who did could be satisfied with themselves on a good day’s outing. In the end, our Member Shazal Yusuf (18) squeaked in ahead of fellow Member Liew Kim Seng (11) to win the coveted trophy by one stroke, playing 2 under his handicap. Congratulations Shazal, on this fine achievement, you have made your family and friends, and Club, proud! the coveted hisamuddin alam shah trophy THE CIRCULAR
