Dress up your Thanksgiving table with a festive fabric lined
bread basket, dessert napkins and pilgrim place cards. Each project
is an inexpensive
pensive way to make the holiday extra special.

Basket Liner
† 24” square each of cotton and lining fabric
† tear-away stabilizer
† temporary spray adhesive
† thread: all-purpose, rayon embroidery
† 4” strip of 38”-wide double-sided fusible hem tape
† removable fabric marker
† Thanksgiving-themed embroidery design
(approximately 3”x7”)
Embroidery
• Print a template of the embroidery design. With the
right side facing up, place the cotton fabric square
over a flat work surface designating one corner as
the lower edge. Position the design template over
the fabric with the design lower-edge center approximately 41⁄2" from the lower edge. Mark the design
center using a removable fabric marker.
• Attach a stabilizer square over the fabric wrong side
using temporary spray adhesive. Hoop the fabric,
centering the design center within the hoop.
• Embroider the design, clipping the jump threads
with each thread change.
• Remove the hoop from the machine and the fabric
from the hoop. Tear away the excess stabilizer;
press from the wrong side.

Construction
• Position the embroidered fabric and lining
squares right sides together, matching each corner.
Mark a dot along the center of each straight edge
edge.
Measure 4" from both sides of each dot; mark.
Measure 31⁄2" from each center dot; mark. Draw
lines connecting the upper and side marks, creating a triangle along each side (A). Cut out each
triangle through both fabric layers.

• Using a 3⁄8" seam allowance, stitch the liner perimeter, leaving a 4" opening along one edge for turning.
• Turn the liner right side out through the opening; press. Position the hem tape strip inside the
opening. Fuse the opening shut, following the
manufacturer’s instructions.

Construction
• From the fabric, cut four
14" squares.
• Print a template of the design.
Position the template over one
fabric square right side, centering
the design 41⁄2" above one corner.
Mark the design center; remove
the template.
• Attach a stabilizer square over
the fabric wrong side using temporary spray adhesive. Hoop the
fabric, centering the design center
within the hoop.
• Embroider the design, clipping
the jump threads with each
thread change.
• Remove the hoop from the
machine and the fabric from
the hoop. Tear away the excess stabilizer; press from the
wrong side.

• Double-fold each edge 1⁄4" toward the wrong side; press.
Unfold each edge. Trim each
corner diagonally along the
first foldline intersection (B).

Refold each edge along the
previous foldlines. Stitch
close to the second fold.
• Repeat to stitch each remaining
napkin.

† paper-release adhesive

tear away the paper to reveal
the adhesive.
• Center one paper rectangle right
side up over the hoop. Press
lightly to adhere the paper to
the stabilizer.
• Load the pilgrim design onto
the embroidery machine. Using
built-in lettering, add a name
below the design. Size the design to approximately 2"x3".
• Cut two 3"x31⁄2" rectangles from
the paper.
• Place the hoop on the machine
and check the design size using
the design framing or trace
function to ensure it will fit
within the paper dimensions.
• Hoop the stabilizer with the
paper side facing up. Score the
paper within the hoop; gently
• Stitch the design, clipping the
jump threads with each thread

the machine. Carefully trim any
thread tails.
• Position the rectangles together
with wrong sides facing. Place
rickrack between the rectangles
along the side and upper edges,
matching the rickrack center
with the paper edges.
• Stitch the rectangle perimeter
to secure the rickrack.
