profondes qui transcendent désaccords et
différences, gratitude pour tout ce que la
vie nous offre de meilleur.
Il n’est pas excessif de décrire l’année
scolaire 2014-2015 comme une année
très particulière. Si, en tant que Directeur
Développement, j’avais consulté en début
d’année une boule de cristal me prédisant le
futur, j’aurais été préoccupé et découragé.
Plus tard, j’aurais également été tout à fait
étonné. Pourquoi ? Parce qu’en dépit de
l’inquiétude et du conflit à propos de la
composition du Board, la contribution de
la communauté du LFSF a été cette année
la plus importante de toutes ces dernières
années : 816 587 $.
Cela semble insensé, et pourtant un
incroyable esprit philanthropique a vu
le jour, qui a su dépasser la politique. Je
ne sais dire exactement pourquoi. Tout
ce que je sais c’est que les donateurs
ont fait preuve d’une force de caractère
exemplaire, d’une confiance inébranlable
envers l’institution et d’un engagement fort
auprès des élèves.
Il a souvent été dit que philanthropie est fille
de gratitude. On trouvera peut-être ici la
réponse : Gratitude pour l’éducation reçue
par les enfants, gratitude pour les relations

C’est un privilège de donner pour nos
élèves, et chaque élève du LFSF bénéficie
de la générosité remarquable de nos
donateurs. À tous nos plus sincères
remerciements. Vous nous inspirez et vous
faîtes toute la différence.
Advancement
Director’s Report
The 2014-2015 school year was
an unusual one to say the least. As
Advancement Director, if I had possessed
a crystal ball at the beginning of the year
to peer into the future I would have been
discouraged and distressed. I also would
have been profoundly astonished.
Why? Because in spite of the anguish and
conflict about Board composition, the
LFSF community contributed more to its
school than any other year in its history:
$816,587.
It certainly didn’t make sense, and yet a
solid philanthropic spirit arose above the
politics. I have no firm answers why. All I
know is that those who gave exemplified
strength of character, resilient hope in the
institution, and a special commitment to
the student body.
It’s been said that Philanthropy is born
of gratitude. Perhaps therein lies the
answer: gratitude for the education
the children are receiving, gratitude for
meaningful relationships that transcend
disagreements and differences, gratitude
for life’s blessings.
It’s a privilege to give to our students, and
every student at the LFSF benefits from
our donors’ remarkable generosity. To
all, thank you so very much. You are an
inspiration. You make all the difference.

Thank you to Gala chair Meriem Curtil
for her leadership, the many volunteers
who labored long and diligently in their
respective committees, donors who gave
generously and from the heart, and staff
who helped create a wonderful evening of
solidarity and support for our students.
participer en tant que bénévole dès notre
première année comme parents.
On peut dire que cette soirée nous a
transportés dans le passé, à l’âge d’or des
années 20, quand les gens osaient parler
librement, vivre joyeusement et donner
généreusement. C’est exactement ce qui
s’est passé ! Costumes d’époque, décors
extravagants et incroyable générosité des
souscripteurs, sponsors, annonceurs et
donateurs !
L’esprit de philanthropie de tous les
participants a contribué à établir un
nouveau record de contributions au
bénéfice des élèves du LFSF. Contribuer
à créer une différence positive est source
de bonheur, et il y en eut beaucoup au
Gala 2015 à l’hôtel Kabuki en ce 21 mars.
Nous remercions la présidente du Gala
Meriem Curtil pour son engagement et
sa gestion efficace de l’évènement, les
nombreux bénévoles qui ont travaillé dur
sur un longue période au sein de leurs
comités respectifs, les donateurs qui ont
généreusement et de grand cœur apporté
leur soutien financier, et le personnel qui a
contribué à la réussite d’une merveilleuse
soirée de solidarité au bénéfice de nos
élèves.
Nous avons tous deux trouvé un moyen
de participer malgré nos emplois à plein
temps. Rick est pilote de ligne, mais dès
que son emploi du temps lui permet d’être
à la maison pendant la semaine il passe
ses matinées sur le campus d’Ashbury
à entrer des données et organiser des
donations pour le Gala. Je suis dans la
finance avec de fréquents déplacements
professionnels, j’ai donc rejoint le Comité
de donation car je pouvais travailler de
n’importe où. Rick fait aussi partie du Dad’s
Club, et a coiffé son bonnet de Chef pour
faire griller merguez et méchoui pendant
la Kermesse. En plus, en reconnaissance
de ces heures de bénévolat, ma société
a doublé notre donation au Fonds pour
l’Avenir du Gala.
Nous avons tous les deux beaucoup
aimé ce bénévolat, pas seulement pour
le plaisir d’aider le LFSF, mais également
pour tous les merveilleux amis rencontrés
à cette occasion.

Since joining the Lycée Français we have
really enjoyed being part of the community,
and one of the best decisions we made
was to volunteer at the school as first-year
parents.
2015 Gala Auction
Report
You could say it was a step back in time
that evening - back to the golden era of
the roaring 1920s when people dared to
speak easy, live easy and… give easy!
And so we did! Everyone dressed in
theme. The décor was over the top. The
generosity of the underwriters, sponsors
and advertisers, and gift contributors was
overwhelming.
The philanthropic spirit of all who
attended resulted in another record
evening of contributions in support of
LFSF students. Making a difference for
good is a natural high, and did we ever
get high at the 2015 Gala Auction held
again at the Kabuki hotel, on March 21.

for business, so I joined the Donation
Committee because I could work from
anywhere. Rick also joined the Dad’s Club,
putting on his chef’s hat for Kermesse
and grilling merguez and mechoui. And
as recognition for the volunteer hours, my
company generously matched our family’s
Fund for the Future donation at Gala.
We have both enjoyed volunteering,
and not only have we enjoyed helping
the school, but have also made some
wonderful friends.

Kermesse Report 2015
La communauté du LFSF s’est rassemblée
au parc de McNears Beach dans le
comté de Marin pour la kermesse 2015.
Nous avons compté un peu plus de 800
participants. Une pelouse bien verte, de
hauts palmiers et beaucoup d’ombre, une
plage sur la Baie, des jeux et une château
gonflable, assez de pistolets à eau pour
équiper une armée d’enfants, et de
nombreuses interactions entre parents et
élèves, contribuèrent au succès de cette
journée exceptionnelle.
The community went to McNears Beach
Park in Marin County for Kermesse on
June 14, 2015. A little over 800 people
showed up. A wide expanse of green
grass, towering palm trees and abundant
shade, a beach on the Bay, games and
bounce houses, enough water guns
to equip a kids army, and delightful
interaction among parents and students
made for a tremendous day.

Many thanks to the Lycée Dad’s Club for
once again bringing its culinary expertise
to the event. And none of it would have
been possible without the many parent and
faculty and staff volunteers who stepped up
to oversee games and booths and help with
set-up and break-down of equipment. The
2015 Kermesse was a memorable event and
a terrific way to close out the school year.

Grâce au Lap-a-thon du mois de mai
dernier, un nouvel espace pour les Arts a
été créé sur le campus de Sausalito. En
effet, l’équipe de maintenance du LFSF,
Luis Sobrevilla, Cupertino Palestina, sous
la houlette d’Emmanuel Poulain ont œuvré
pour adapter les deux pièces situées en
haut du campus, attenant au bâtiment
3 pour transformer radicalement cet
espace. La destruction du mur central, la

sol ont permis une nouvelle configuration.
Et le résultat est là ! Une salle dédiée
aux Arts qui accueillera l’ensemble des
cours de musique, toutes les activités de
théâtre, de la danse, des Arts plastiques,
les Arts culinaires. A cela, s’ajoute des
heures de musique pour les petites
sections maternelles à grandes sections
avec une professeur de musique, Magali
Sanscartier.
Enfin, au cours de l’année scolaire et pour
que cette salle soit utilisée comme théâtre
également, nous allons ajouter un rideau,
des spots et un système sono.

Lap-a-thon 2015
Ashbury
Le lap-a-thon 2015, dont le thème était
comme pour le campus de Sausalito
l’aménagement des salles de musique
et d’arts, a été un moment riche de la
fin de l’année scolaire 2014-2015. Une
discussion avec les deux enseignantes de
musique du campus a permis de définir
les priorités, les désirs des personnes
utilisant ces salles.
Les travaux ont commencé durant l’été
et ont permis les premières modifications
liées à ce projet : les fenêtres ont été
remplacées, des aménagements ont
été prévus pour recevoir les classeurs
de musique de toutes les classes. Le
gros du travail reste à venir et devrait
être réalisé d’ici la fin de l’année civile :
amélioration du câblage électrique et
dans l’environnement exceptionnel que
vous leur offrez.”

Les Journées Grands-Parents du LFSF,
visite des campus par les grands-parents
et amis proches des élèves, se sont
déroulées la première semaine de janvier.
Chaque campus a organisé une visite
de bienvenue et donné l’occasion aux
grands-parents de découvrir les salles de
classe de leurs petits-enfants.
“Je suis une des grands-mères d’Alexis
et Samantha, et j’ai eu le plaisir de les
voir s’épanouir au LFSF. Les admirer sur
scène pour le spectacle de Noël était
bouleversant. Quelle école extraordinaire
qui encourage les grands-parents à
participer à certaines activités des enfants !
J’adore cette école pour nos filles, elles
se développent formidablement bien

Grandparents Days at LFSF, when
students’ grandparents and special
friends visit our campuses, were
scheduled the first week of January. Each
campus organized a welcome, tour, and
opportunity for grandparents to visit the
classrooms of their grandchildren.
“As one of Alexis and Samantha’s
Grandmothers, I feel privileged to have
had the opportunity to watch them

Lap-a-thon 2015
Sausalito
Thanks to the Lap-a-thon last May a
new space for the Arts has been created
on the campus of Sausalito. In fact, the
faclities management team at LFSF,
Luis Sobrevilla and Cupertino Palestina,
under the direction of Emmanuel Poulain,
worked in two rooms situated in the
upper campus, annexed to Building 3,
and radically transformed those spaces.
Removal of a central wall, new paint,
improvements to the flooring etc. created
a new room configuration. And now its
finished ! A room dedicated to the arts
which will welcome our music courses, all
theater activities, dance, plastic arts and
culinary arts. And add to that music
bloom at LFSF. Watching them perform
during the Christmas production was
breathtaking. What a special school that
encourages grandparents to be included
in some of the children’s activities. I just
love the school for the girls and they are
thriving in the environment that you are
providing. “

Finally, this school year the room will be
used also as a theater. We’re going to
add a theater curtain, some spot lights,
and a sound system. A huge thank

teachers are excited about their new
space and all the activities they’ll be
enjoying in it.

Lap-a-thon 2015
Ashbury
The 2015 Lap-a-thon at Ashbury
had the same purpose as the one at
Sausalito : improving the music and
art rooms. It was a great event for the
end of the 2014-2015 school year. A
discussion with our two music teachers
allowed us to define our priorities and
the wishes of those using the rooms.
The work began during the summer and
resulted in some initial improvements.
The windows were replaced, and the
design for a place to put the music
notebooks of all classes as installed.
The biggest part of the work is yet to
come and should be finished before
the end of the calendar year : electric
wiring, technology, new paint and new
furnishings.
We would like to express our gratitude
again, all of us who have worked on
this project: the children who ran, the
parents who sponsored them,, and the
teachers who willingly lent their support
to the effort.

Ce simple acte isolé s’est traduit par un
don en nature de 25 ordinateurs, qui
a permis l’attribution de nouveaux
ordinateurs aux 3 campus à temps pour la
rentrée. Merci Tarik Elomari !
Cela a commencé avec un simple
e-mail : « Je voudrais vous parler d’un
programme de la société qui m’emploie :

Community
Reboot
(Redémarrage de la communauté de
Moody’s)... Si cela intéresse le LFSF,
veuillez trouver ci-dessous le lien de
l’application... »
Monsieur Tarik Elomari nous a fourni
l’information nécessaire et à partir de
là le service du Développement a fait
une demande de subvention auprès de
la Moody’s Foundation. Huit semaines
plus tard, le LFSF a reçu 25 ordinateurs
portables de Moody’s Analytics.
Pendant l’été le Département Informatique
du LFSF a préparé les ordinateurs pour
les distribuer à la rentrée scolaire. Les
nouveaux équipements, plus performants
que les machines existantes d’Ortega
ont remplacées celles-ci. Les anciennes
machines ont été distribuées à des
classes du primaire pour renouveler des
machines obsolètes.

obtenu ces ordinateurs et reconnaissant

donation et pour leur engagement continu

It all began with a simple email: “I wanted
to share with you this program from my
company: Moody’s Community Reboot.
If this is of interest for LFSF, please find
below the link for the application.”

A single thoughtful act resulted in an

“As a parent of one of the students at
LFSF and as an employee of Moody’s,
I am really pleased that the school was
granted these laptops, and very grateful
to Moody’s Foundation for the donation
and for their constant commitment to

Advancement Department completed the
grant request to Moody’s Foundation.
Eight weeks later, LFSF received

Universities Fund - This fund was
established by a small group of LFSF
parents in February 2000 and funded
with a $130,000 contribution. This fund is
restricted to finance a program specifically
designed to prepare students for American
Universities. Only the income may be
distributed. If the income earned by the
fund does not cover all expenses related to
the program, LFSF has committed to fund
the deficit from its operating budget.

du marché du fonds à la fin de l’année

Depuis le printemps 1992, le LFSF a reçu

a été créé par un petit groupe de parents

The Pierre Antoine Fontaine Memorial
(PAF) Fund - LFSF received cash and
securities in stages starting in the spring
of 1992 from the estate of Barbara Marie
Fontaine to create this fund. This Fund’s
use is restricted: “The income shall be
paid, at the end of the Spring term of
each year, to a worthy, needy student or
students of either French citizenship or
French ancestry who have completed the
terminal year and who have been selected
by said governing body in order to further
his or their education in France in an
academic or cultural manner for a summer
or longer period of time.”
The Seona Herail Fund - This fund
was established during the 1995-1996
fiscal year in memory of LFSF student
Seona Herail. This is a permanent fund.

The Dr. Jean Deléage Endowment for
French Language, Arts and Culture This fund was established during the ’11’12 fiscal year “In honor of their father’s
legacy of board service, support and belief
in LFSF. This board designated fund will
be used to fund projects, resources and
programs that enhance French Language,
Arts and Culture at LFSF.”
