In addition to the Southwest Regional Convention we have some book end events approaching that also demand our participation. Yes, these are busy, busy times in A Phi A and Alpha Sigma Lambda chapter. In regards to that brothers I leave you with these Alpha Man defining lines from a couple of poems near and dear to my heart…”tired moments find me a delightful treat” and “If you can fulfill the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds worth of distance run…” ‘06 good brothers!! Bro. Jabari B. Jones Signs of PTSD Some of the most common symptoms of PTSD include recurring memories or nightmares of an event(s), resulting in sleeplessness, loss of interest, feeling numb, angry, and irritability. Still there are many other ways PTSD can impact your everyday life. Sometimes these symptoms don’t surface for months or years after the event or returning from deployment. They may also come and go. If these problems won’t go away or are getting worse—or you feel like they are disrupting your daily life— you may have PTSD. Treating PTSD PTSD has been defined as reactions to trauma rooted in the body’s response to threat. Such has been characterized as being successfully treated through Yoga, neurofeedback, theater, mindfulness meditation and “Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing” EMDR. All these modalities may sound implausible, but when used appropriately they have been found to be more useful in treating the trauma survivor than psychiatric medications so says Dr. Kolk. What to do if I think I have PTSD? If you think you have PTSD, it doesn’t mean you just have to live with it. Dallas Alphas 2 Exec Board Meeting – Wed, March 18, 2015; 7pm @ Alpha Sigma Lambda House The term “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder” (PTSD) is often associated with military veterans. War indeed, creates many traumatic experiences, but it is not the only source of events that may cause people to shut down or blow up. Life threatening illnesses, episodes of family violence or other events such as crashes in trains, planes, and auto, can cause a dysfunctional reaction that may be largely out of one’s conscious awareness. Congratulations & Kudos We’d like to extend well wishes and congratulatory praise to the following brothers for excelling/venturing into new territories in their respective fields, in Alpha and life in general. We encourage you to join us as we work to Reclaim and Retain our Brothers. Please help to ensure that the fire for our “Dear A-PhiA” continues to burn bright in those who diligently toil to “Hold High the Name”. We must reignite the flame in the hearts of our brothers who have become disenfranchised from the Fraternity. With this in mind we implore each Brother within Alpha Sigma Lambda chapter to invite and bring a brother with you to an event or a meeting. There is a direct correlation between our Membership Retention and living up to the principles and ideals of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Furthermore, each Brother must do a self -examination and recognize that Alpha Phi Alpha is like any other entity in your life, if you put nothing into it, you will get nothing out of it. Our organization and the state that it is in is a direct representation of the men in it. So with that being said let’s reclaim our brothers to the House of Alpha! And many more!! So invite all the young and young at heart that would like to better themselves by pursue a degree in higher education! Dallas Alphas 3 Knowledge Is Power!!! Dallas Alphas 4
