Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio Arby’s Charity Tour 2010 Arby’s 5K Walk/Run for Kids: Lace up your shoes and come join us on Sunday, August 22 at the beautiful Ottawa Park at 2200 Bancroft Road, Toledo, Ohio 43612. This new location provides a more challenging course for those serious runners and a more scenic view for those who want to walk. Participants will receive an event shirt and lunch provided by Arby’s. Cost to participate is $20. Pre-registration is encouraged. Arby’s Family Picnic: Bigs, Littles, their families, 5K Walk/Run participants and golfers are invited to attend a picnic at Ottawa Park on Sunday, August 22 following the 5K Walk/Run for Kids. Arby’s will be providing food, games, music and fun. Come join us in celebrating the positive impact mentoring has on the lives of the children involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio. Grab your golf clubs and join us on Tuesday, August 24 at Sylvania Country Club at 5201 Corey Road, Sylvania, Ohio 43560. The event is hosted by Arby’s and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio to bring awareness to the need for positive role models in the lives of children in Northwestern Ohio. Registration begins at 12 noon with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. A 19th Hole Reception will follow with a live auction of items donated by sponsors and partners. Each golfer will receive a gift bag and tournament winners will receive team awards. Golfers will also participate in course contests such as hole in one, longest drive and closest to the pin. Give Us an Update: Auto Insurance & Match Support We are required to keep a current copy of all volunteers’ proof of auto insurance and driver’s license in their files. If your auto insurance or driver’s license has been renewed or changed, please send us a copy. Failure to do so may result in your file being closed. The safety of the children in the program must come first! Case managers must also hear from volunteers and parents to know how your match is progressing. Volunteers and parents are required to contact the office for match support once a month during the first year of the match and quarterly after the first year. If you have not heard from us, please give any case manager a call or send an email. We are here for you to provide support and assistance with your match. We also like to hear the success stories, so if your match is going well, we want hear from you! Activities are oriented to specific age groups. Being a parent is not always easy and going it alone can be challenging. Having a support system can make it easier. Visit www.parentsworld.com. It is for all types of single parents and is a collection of advice, parents talking to parents, tips on raising children and more. Another website any parent may find helpful is www.empoweringparents.com. This website provides helpful parenting advice for children of all ages. They also provide a free email newsletter. Free Concert Come to the Swanton High School Auditorium on Wednesday, August 4 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. for a free concert sponsored by the Board of Library Teens (BOLT) in association with the Swanton Public Library. This is a family friendly event and no reservations are needed. The rock and roll band High Strung will be performing their upbeat harmonies of both favorite and new songs. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio will be raffling a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS. Tickets are 1 for $10 or 3 tickets for $20. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio will be promoting the raffle by showcasing the car at various locations this summer. The drawing will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010. The winner is responsible for picking up or arranging delivery of the car and for taxes, title and license.
