Funland Feature June 16-22, 2015 It is mid-June and sunny days have welcomed the many tourists visiting Rehoboth Beach. We are happily back into the full swing of things here at Funland with games are opening every day at 10am and rides opening at 1pm. A Little FUN History “Best wishes for happiness and success where life leads you… hopefully to Funland!” –Allen R. Fasnacht In 1956 the Fasnacht family purchased Willow Mill Park, a picnic park on the Conodoguinet Creek just north of Hogestown, PA. Then in late August of 1961, the Fasnacht family decided to spend a few days at the shore before their kids went back to school. Cottages were rented at Nomad Village just south of the Indian River inlet. On the first evening, they went to the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk and looked at Sport Center’s newest ride, the Helicopter, which was one of the first kiddie rides where the rider controlled the movement of the vehicle. Inquisitive of that ride, Allen Fasnacht walked over and introduced himself to the owner, explaining that their family owned a small park in Pennsylvania. “Almost before he said “hello”, he asked me if I wanted to buy Sports Center”. By early the next morning, Al and his father decided they should return for more information. The settlement date was set for March 15, 1962. On March 6-8, 1962 the Great Atlantic Storm, a wicked nor’easter, battered the mid-Atlantic coast. The damage report received on the Rehoboth Beach property was unimaginable. They were offered a refund of their deposit, but went ahead with contract and the rebuilding. Funland was open for business, although limited, by the summer of 1962. That is how our story began. New Item at the Funland Store We are proud to announce an edition to our Funland Store, a new baby onesie. Perfect for the families who have been visiting us for generations, these “Next in line for FUNLAND” onesies are designed for the future riders in your family. In addition, we are also running a new Instagram contest with our Funland children’s wear. Winners of the Week Meet Allie, Rick, Emily, and Josh (pictured from left to right), they were visiting Funland this week from New Jersey and are the featured "Winners of the Week." Both Emily and Josh won jumbo prizes at Dog Pounder on Wednesday, June 17th, 2015. Rick explained that, "Both of them are really good at that game." When this family is in town, they always make time to come to Funland to ride the rides. Their favorite rides are Haunted Mansion, The Jungle, and the Bumper Cars. Thanks for letting us meet your family Rick, and we hope to see you all again soon! Funland Through the Generations Some families have been visiting Funland for years and have passed the tradition down for generations. A grandfather from Virginia, who was at Funland with his grandson this past week, has been coming here for over forty years. Asked if he was having a good time, he laughed, “Well my grandson sure is, he is on Gravitron now… and that sure puts a smile on my face.” Another Funland visitor who has been coming to Rehoboth Beach and Funland for over twenty-five years believes that Funland is great for little kids. “Half of the fun is watching the little ones win a game, or just watching them play in general”. She continued, “Funland is great because you can go to games, like the duck pond, and win every time. I know parents like us really appreciate that, especially when your kids are really young.” A mother from Washington D.C’s family comes here every year. She enjoyed watching her kids on The Jungle and exclaimed, “What’s not to like about Funland? It’s so much FUN!” We are very much enjoying being able to hear and share all of your personal Funland stories. Meet the Employees Aaron is from Wilmington, Delaware and will be a senior in the fall. He first started working at Funland in 2013. Aaron has enjoyed coming to Funland since he was a little kid, so that made his decision easy when he started to look for summer jobs. This is now Aaron's third summer at Funland. He decided to come back year after year because he enjoys the people he works with, and is happy with the compensation. Aaron’s favorite ride to operate is Superflip, and his favorite game to run is Skee-ball. During his free time, Aaron prefers to ride the Sea Dragon, Superflip, or play a few games of Skee-ball. Aaron values the friendships, many of which have become like family, he has made at Funland over the years. One of his favorite memories from working at Funland was from a shift on Frog Bog. A little girl won and Aaron got to give her a prize. The little girl thanked Aaron and told him that he made her day. The little girl’s dad then shook Aaron’s hand and said, “Thank you.” That made Aaron’s day in return. Funland appreciates our employees who dedicate everything they do, to making sure our guests have the most enjoyable experience possible. Be sure to say hello to Sean! He is originally from Old Tappan, New Jersey but moved to Rehoboth Beach with his family in 2012. Sean goes to the local high school and will be a senior in the fall. He first came to Funland after moving here and decided to apply for a job when many of his friends from school encouraged him to do so. This is Sean’s second summer at Funland. He has come back this year because he enjoys his job and likes working with his friends. His favorite ride to work is the Haunted Mansion, while his favorite game to run is Skatterball. During his free time you will most likely find Sean playing Skee-ball. Sean's favorite thing about Funland is getting to know all the employees that travel to work here from different states and multiple countries. Despite being color blind, that doesn’t stop Sean from seeing all the good experiences Funland has given him. He believes that his boss, family member Chris Darr, is the best boss. We are happy to have you back at Funland, Sean. NEW Game at Funland Funland has recently added a game called Down the Clown to our collection of redemption games. You can play this game for the price of $1 per player. How to play: you have twenty seconds to throw as many balls as possible to knock down the clowns in order to get points. There are three rows of clowns: the top row is thirty points, the middle row is twenty points, and the bottom row is ten points. The clowns also are larger and heavier at the top and get smaller and lighter as the rows go down. This game is located conveniently across from the prizes at the redemption center. Be sure to stop by to give Down the Clown a try during your next trip to Funland. We will help you plan your trip by updating our social media accounts with various information including abnormal closing times. Our Instagram account will also repost your very own Funland pictures to our official account.
