GIVING WITH AN
ETERNAL
IMPACT
Sometimes a picture says it better. Students giving God the glory
on the soccer field is a snapshot of
how your gift makes a difference.
Annual Giving gifts provide
need-based tuition assistance to
help more students receive a
CVCA education. Gifts also help
with faculty training, Fine Arts,
athletics, and classroom supplies –
to name a few. All gifts to CVCA,
regardless of size, have a direct,
eternal impact on students.
Invest in the next generation of
servant leaders by making a
gift to CVCA by June 30 at
cvcaroyals.org/giving.
GRANDPARENTS’ DAY
Friday, September 9, 2016
One of the best parts of Grandparents’ Day is to walk by classrooms
and hear grandparents sharing what they learned in school and
throughout life with teachers and their grandchildren. Stories are
told, prayers are shared, and most of all, students can thank grandparents for the selfless love they pour into their lives.
More information will be mailed to grandparents in August. Please
make sure your child’s grandparent information is updated in
RenWeb.

JR. HIGH ELECTIONS
This year’s Student Leadership Council elections were a unique experience for our 7th
grade students. After hearing eloquent
speeches from the candidates, the 7th grade
voters lined
up with their
IDs to check in
and vote at their designated precinct’s “voting
booth.” When they finished privately voting,
each voter turned in their ballot and received
candy and a sticker that read, “I Voted!”

STUDENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
HIGHEST SCOUT HONORS
OUTSTANDING ARTIST AWARD
Senior Matt Greenwood was awarded the rank of
Eagle Scout, the highest honor in scouting,
in a ceremony at the
Brecksville United
Methodist Church.
State Senator Tom
Patton was there to
award Matt a plaque
from the State of
Ohio. Matt was
accompanied by his father Sid and his mother Carla.
MISS TEEN HONORS
The Miss
Teen Ohio
Pageant started for Jaya
Wilson, a
Junior, with
an invitation
in February.
The letter stated that she had been
nominated but did not mention
who or how this came about. “To
this day I do not know how the
committee got my name.” Jaya had
never competed in a pageant, so
she did not know what to expect
when she attended the information
session with her mother. There they
learned about the pageant history
and format, including the fact that
there is no swimsuit category. “My
father would not have approved of
me modeling attire that was meant
for swimming. That was the first
hurdle for my parents.”
The next phase was a preliminary
interview in March. It was the first
impression phase, where young

ladies shared their thoughts, personalities and unique character
qualities with a three-judge panel.
The contestants’ overall deportment was fine-tuned during a modeling training class, in keeping with
the tradition of the Miss Teen program. During March the applicant
pool of 500 was narrowed down
and 87 finalists were announced. It
was then that Jaya found out she
was a finalist heading to the statewide pageant in Columbus.
In Columbus, contestants, dressed
in professional attire, went through
their final rigorous interview with a
new set of judges to determine if
they had the attributes to be considered for Miss Teen 2016. Next,
the contestants modeled casual/
sporting attire for the audience and
judges while the Master of
Ceremonies detailed the endeavors
and hobbies of each participant.
Then came the formal wear segment of the competition. As they
modeled their gowns, each young
lady was asked to respond to the
Junior Olivia Nichols color
pencil art piece was selected

12,500 pieces in the Ohio
Governor’s Youth Art
Exhibition. Her work is currently on display in the lobby of the

Tower in Columbus.
question, “What is your ultimate
goal in life?” For most contestants
it was a success-driven question;
but for Jaya, it was a soul- piercing
query. After taking pause to collect
her thoughts, she responded by saying “I would like to become a
nurse, I would like to get married
and have a family; but my ultimate
goal is to hear the words, ‘Well
done, my good and faithful servant’
from my Lord Jesus.”
Her answer was both surprising
and stirring to many in the audience. But apparently it was substantive enough to catapult her into
the Top 10 – the final phase of the
competition. By the end of the
evening, Jaya was chosen as 1st
runner-up and will advance to the
National Miss Teen Competition in
Orlando, Florida in 2017.
