"YOU PUT ASIDE THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD TO CLING TO HUMAN TRADITIONS"
The commandments help us to live in charity with God and with our neighbour.
TODAY’S READINGS:
First Reading: Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-8. God gives commandments as guidelines to help the people live well. The
commandments are a sign of God’s love.
Second Reading: James 1:17-18, 21-22, 27. James reminds us that living virtuously is not a private affair and includes caring for those who are vulnerable.
Gospel: Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23. Jesus teaches his hearers that there is a natural law implanted in all of us by God;
this law is more important than any human legislation.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE CARE OF CREATION: Earlier this August, Pope Francis instituted the World Day of
Prayer for the Care of Creation, which will be on September 1 annually, beginning in 2015. It will coincide with a similar celebration
previously established by Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. It is therefore also a day of ecumenical prayer. In his letter
addressed to the President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity, the Holy Father wrote: "As Christians we wish to contribute to resolving the ecological crisis which humanity is
presently experiencing. In doing so, we must first rediscover in our own rich spiritual patrimony the deepest motivations for our concern for the care of creation." On the website of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, there are already some resources in
connection with the Pope's Encyclical, Laudato Si' (Praise Be To You), on the care of our common home. (We have two copies of
Pope Francis Encyclical Letter available in the Parish Library).
PARISH MISSION: Our Parish will hold a Mission on Monday and Tuesday, September 7 and 8 at 7:00
pm in the Church. The theme is “Go Build My Church—Becoming a Living Stone in the Body of Christ”.
Fresh and creative ways in helping fellow pilgrims and seekers to embrace real changes that lead to conversation and transformation. Church is more than a building and a structure. Church is more than an institution. Church is a movement, a flow and a calling. Our facilitator is Fr. Philip Chircop, a Jesuit Priest with
advance degrees in Pastoral Theology, Communications and Spirituality. Please reserve the date.
PLEASE NOTE: As part of the Parish Mission, there will be Mass on Monday, September 7th, at 12:10pm.
NEW OFFICE HOURS: As was recommended and approved by the Parish Pastoral Council, Finance Committee and Parish Priest, starting on Tuesday, September 1st, the Parish Office will be opened from Tuesday to
Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This will be reviewed after six months.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS: The RCIA program will begin Tuesday, September 15th.
Adults who have never been baptized; baptized Christians of other faith traditions who are interested in joining the
Roman Catholic Church; Catholics baptized as infants but who have never celebrated the sacraments of Eucharist
and Confirmation or anyone who wants to learn more about the Catholic faith are welcome to attend. If you are interested, or know of someone who might be interested, please contact Father Al.
BIBLE TIMELINE: There will be a 24-weeks Bible Study on Wednesdays, beginning on October 7th, at 7:00
p.m. in the Parish Centre. There are sign-up sheets available at both entrances to the church. The deadline
to register is Tuesday, September 15th. Those who are unable to attend the Wednesday sessions here at St.
Pat's can join the ones at Sacred Heart on Tuesday. For more information, please contact the Parish Office.
2016 INTERNATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS - JANUARY 24 – 31, 2016: Every four years, Catholic faithful from
around the world are invited to gather together to reflect on and celebrate the great mystery of the Eucharist during the International
Eucharistic Congress. From Jan. 24-31, 2016, thousands of Catholic clergy and lay people will gather in Cebu, Philippines, for the
51st Congress, on the theme “Christ in you, our hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). The Diocese of Victoria is not sponsoring its own
pilgrimage. Therefore, those who wish to participate are invited to join one of the two groups leaving from Vancouver. Please note
that you will also have to register directly for the Congress while transportation and accommodation will be taken care of by the tour
group. Details can be found at http://rcav.org/iec-2016/.

COFFEE AFTER MASS: This year we are asking everyone to consider hosting a
coffee session after the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays. Different Ministries
have been doing it; however, it is a challenge for them to fill all the dates. There are
sign-up sheets available at both entrances to the church for families, individuals and
other groups that might like to host a coffee session or you can call parish office.
