B J W C SERVING OUR COMMUNITY December 2015 / January 2016 BURLINGTON JUNIOR WOMAN’S CLUB | Vol 16 Issue 6 Hello my frosty Juniors! These cold snaps have really given us a preview to Winter, but we won’t let the cold keep us down! You may have even improved your insulation over Thanksgiving, like me. I feel like there has been so much going on here lately, and much of it is positive news. First, I would like to say congratulations to Pam and Miguel on their engagement! I know you guys will have a fun and loving marriage. And in Federation news, I learned that Sherea’ Burnett beat out the competition and has been chosen to represent District 4 for LEADS this year! If she is the top LEADS candidate, she will get to attend the GFWC International Convention, which will be held in Baltimore in June 2016. Please congratulate Sherea’ whenever you get a chance! On November 21st, I was joined by Pamela Holley, Crystal O’Neal, Nikki Ratliff and Jill Sutphin at the GFWC-NC Fall Conference in Lewisville. We received updates from the Community Service Program Chairladies and we were reminded to submit our reports on time. Pam was selected as the GFWC-NC Arts CSP Junior Chairperson (in addition to her District position) and Nikki has been nominated for the position of Junior Secretary on the GFWCNC Junior Board! You go girls! There was also a lot of time spent on discussing our financial standing. The State’s expenses are just higher than what is coming in. There are two immediate actions that are taking place to help ease the expenses for this year. Plus, there is a task force in place to make long-term plans. One major change is a discussion to raise the dues. A portion of your club dues is paid to GFWC-NC and if they increase their dues, our club dues would likely increase as well. I am sharing this with you in hopes that you will be prepared for, but not discouraged by, the potential changes to come. As far as immediate action goes, they are asking for clubwomen to each donate $15 to the endowment fund. Our District President, Melanie Stevens, has issued a challenge to all Districts to encourage them to surpass what District 4 has donated so far (~$3500). If you would like to make a “$15 in ‘15” contribution, please let me know! The second immediate plan is a fundraiser called “This Little Piggy Goes to Convention”. One candidate from each District will be chosen as a representative. Whoever raises the most money will have to kiss a pig, of some sort. That part is not yet very clear, but you can also donate your funds raised to another district’s rep to make her kiss the pig! Melanie has asked each Club to provide a name for a potential representative from our District. One individual from all of the names submitted will be selected at the District 4 Arts Festival in February. So start thinking about who you would like to nominate! Check out the rest of this edition of the newsletter to see the other fun things happening in December and January!
