Grand Master Report First, I would like to say how
Grand Master Report
First, I would like to say how excited we are to finally have a newsletter to send out. I think one thing our chapter can really improve on is Alumni relations and this is a great first step. I would also encourage everyone to follow all of our social media accounts (listed at the bottom of the newsletter), which we have also been working hard to improve. This past Spring semester was very successful for our Delta Xi Chapter. Among the highlights were raising $75,000 for Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson through Diamond Days, making us the largest greek philanthropy on campus. We had one of the most successful South Seas ever, and we we’re able to raise our GPA .3 points from the Fall. With such a successful Spring we have set the bar high for ourselves heading into the fall but I believe we are prepared to top it. Summer has flown by and we are excited for the fall semester to begin as we have some exciting things planned, including our now annual casino night benefitting Cystic Fibrosis and an alumni/parents event at a football game. We were unable to make any major changes to the house this summer, but are in the process of putting together some really great plans. All of these things are expensive, however, so I encourage anyone with interest in helping us fund these renovations to please reach out. We have become competitive with every fraternity on this campus socially and now it is time for us to take the next step with our house. As Grand Master I take responsibility for our alumni relations being weak in the past but it is time to change that. I truly believe the one thing our fraternity lacks compared to others on this campus is alumni support and relations. Again, this is absolutely a two sided issue and I hope this newsletter can be the first step in turning that around. We’ve worked hard on putting this newsletter together and I hope it echoes how great of a chapter we’ve become. If you have any questions for me or would like to reach out to see how you can help support us please email or call me. My email is [email protected] and my phone number is 2148830269. I look forward to the Delta Xi chapter alumni and members coming together and continuing our legacy as the best Kappa Sigma chapter in the country. A.E.K.D.B Davis Bittner Grand Master Rush Report We are very excited for Fall Rush to begin. Bid Day this year is later than it has been in the past and is Sunday, October 17th. Last year we had the biggest pledge class of any Kappa Sigma chapter in the country with over 85 new members and are optimistic about reaching that goal again. Over the summer our rush team has been taking out incoming freshman when they are in town for orientation and we had a trip up to Memphis for RedBirds baseball game in July. One thing we want to stress is our rush policy for legacies, after discussing with board members and our rush team this is policy we have come up with Direct Legacy (Father, Grandfather, or Brother was a Delta Xi) They will receive a bid unless there is a major issue that comes up. Legacy or Recommendation (Related to member of another chapter or recommended by Delta Xi member) Will at least be invited back to round two of rush and will be be seriously considered for a bid. We can’t stress enough how important it is that you reach out to us and let us know about legacies or connections. In the past we have had many issues regarding legacies slipping through the cracks because we didn’t know about them and we don’t want that to happen again. Here is our rush team for this fall and their contact info, please email them with any information you have about potential new members. The members in attendance included: John Nelson Grand Treasurer and Rush Chair from Hattiesburg, MS; Noah Richardson Social Chair from Madison, MS; Steele Becnel Grand Master of Ceremonies from Lafayette, LA; Jacob Rodriguez Social Chair from Austin, TX; and Ranny Randolph Grand Scribe from Virgina Beach, VA. All attended different learning workshops covering a wide variety of topics throughout the weekend, providing a plethora of knowledge for them to share with the chapter in a few short weeks when school is back in session. Workshops ranged from recruiting strategies to after college techniques and how to use the national network to each member’s advantage. Kappa Sigma received an honorary reward, placing third in national recruiting record, with 85 pledges in the fall of 2015. We are also proud to announce that our FACE awards points grew by 400% from previous years. The brothers were recognized in front of 1600 men in attendance of the conference at an awards banquet. A proud moment to show off the strength of the DeltaXi chapter and its power not only on campus, but nationally. The delegates in attendance have brought home a nice piece of hardware that will be on display in the green room for all to see. Steele Becnel, John Nelson, Jacob Rodriguez, Noah Richardson,

Alumni Catch Up Christopher “Cookie” Marshall PC 2011 Positions Held Grand Procurator, Social Chair, Pledge Trainer What're you up to now Commercial Insurance Producer at The Crichton Group in Nashville, Tennessee. Favorite Kappa Sig memory While it wasn't my favorite at the time, the night before bid day my freshman year I spoke to an active and he said we really hope to see you tomorrow and I said don't worry you will. I woke up the next morning without a bid to Kappa Sig. I called the active I spoke to the night before and he said there is no way that happened, let me call you back in 20 minutes. About an hour later the rush chair at the time called me saying that he had mistakenly removed my name from the list of bids because he did not know my real name. Luckily, it worked itself out but every time I see Kyle Ketchings (Fall 2010) he always tells the story about the time he cut me from Kappa Sig. Pledge brother you want to give a shout out to Roy Ray Ryan Phillips, Taylor Jones, Chris Marshall, and Chase Galloway
(all PC'11) at the SEC basketball championships in 2013
Prediction for Ole Miss's upcoming football season My undefeated prediction last year didn't pan out like I had hoped, but I really think this is the year. 150 Calton Wilde PC 2007 Positions Held Grand Master, Grand Procurator, Rush Chair What're you up to now I’m an attorney at the international law firm of Bracewell LLP in its Houston office. My practice focuses on civil commercial litigation and mass torts. I am also married and we are expecting our first child later this year. Fortunately my wife went to SMU, so my soontobe son will only have one college football team to root for. Favorite Kappa Sig memory Bringing South Seas back to the house with Moon Taxi as our headlining band. We were able to bring in a few tons of sand and transform the backyard. Each pledge class made their own bar out of bamboo and each had a signature drink. Also enjoyed all of our formals to New Orleans and hanging out at Swayze every weekend during baseball season. Pledge brother you want to give a shout out to Keaton Brewer, Tyler Mouchet, and Patrick House. All of them were in my wedding and we still attempt to remain close postcollege. Prediction for Ole Miss's upcoming football season 102. We will lose to Alabama and LSU. Also potential for Vandy to be a trap game, so watch out for that one. Member Spotlight Jake Pincus PC 2013 In 2009 brother Jake Pincus, a Senior, cofounded Team Mahi, a fishing team based out of Houston, Tx, with six friends. Jake and his friends always had a passion for fishing and decided to create their own team which over the last 7 years has now developed into a successful brand. The team does all types of saltwater fishing and features everything they do on their youtube channel Team Mahi Fishing and website teammahi.com. “Our team is all original and everything we produce is solely ours. We started with nothing and have barely scratched the surface of what is to come. We’re just six friends who love fishing and happen to take pictures and videos inbetween.” Follow Team Mahi on instagram @teammahi and like their facebook page, Team Mahi Fishing Tre Polk PC 2013 After graduating from Brandon High School in May 2013, Tre Polk started his own advertising business in the Jackson, MS metro area called Polk’s Marketing. Tre, with the help of his
brother, went around to local businesses and sold them on the idea of putting a TV up in their stores that would run continuous ads on a loop. “The basic idea behind the business is to establish locations that have daily captive audiences (i.e. restaurants, medical waiting rooms, car repair shops, hair salons etc…) that are willing to hold and turn on our TV every day. After we had an agreement that they would hold TVs, I went selling local business on the idea of a filmed thirty second commercial looping in these places through their business hours.” As of today Polk’s Marketing has worked with around 40 different clients, and have 12 locations hosting our TVs in six different towns surrounding the Jackson Metro area. Check our Polk’s Marketing on Facebook to learn more and to see all of the commercials they currently have running. News/ Announcements Florida St Game in Orlando As I’m sure everyone knows the Rebs open up this season with a huge matchup in Orlando against Florida St. I know a lot of members will be making a trip down and we think it’d be great to get an alumni tailgate or event together if there is enough interest. If you will be down there and would be interested in helping plan something please email Davis Bittner at [email protected] Alumni Weekend Please be on the lookout for an official announcement on when the alumni weekend in Oxford will be. As of right now the plan is to do it Friday, November 4th (Georgia Southern game) at the University Club. Again nothing has been officially booked yet but we are working on getting that confirmed as quickly as we can. Houston Alumni There is a quarterly DeltaXi alumni lunch coordinated by Walker Agnew. The next one will be this fall and if you’re in the Houston area and interested email Walker at [email protected] If any other alumni do something like this or want to organize something similar in another city, let us know so I can get the word out!
