State of the Fraternity
Esteemed Alumni, Faculty, and Parents,
It is my pleasure and distinct honor to write to
you on the state of the Epsilon Kappa Chapter of
Tau Kappa Epsilon. The first newsletter outlined
three key areas that our chapter would concentrate
on during the first weeks of the new spring
semester. This message serves to report on those
three areas and will reveal an additional one.
Philanthropy, the second focus area, was demonstrated in the series of events we held
to promote and raise donations for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The first
event, Kick-Off Night, was held at the local restaurant Uncommon Ground where
attendants and actives alike made donations to St. Jude’s with the money they used to
purchase dinner. The letter writing party was held later that week where students and
faculty wrote messages in partially completed letters that asked potential donors for
monetary contributions to St. Jude. Finally, the second annual Jokes for St. Jude was a
huge success whose culmination can be attributed to weeks of preparation that
resulted in over two hundred letters written, a sold out event, and
approximately $6,863 raised for St. Jude! The letter writing totals will not be returned
to us for a while, but when they come, the statistics will be available in the upcoming
June Newsletter. We would like to give our thanks and generosity to the philanthropy
committee, led by Chairman Kyle Wagner, the faculty and administrators of the
Student Activities and Greek Affairs, alumni, and all of those who attended. The
chapter could not have done this without you.
Brotherhood, an often difficult priority to measure, was our third key focus area. It is
a continued goal that could always need improvement. The amount of teamwork
necessary in organizing such successful philanthropy events is a testament to what we
can accomplish when brothers of varying skills join together for a cause. Our trust for
one another builds each time we choose to share our abilities with one another.
Greek Life, in general, is being held under a microscope more than ever. Some
fraternities hide from being heavily scrutinized. The Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Tau
Recruitment, the first focus area, is considered to Kappa Epsilon will show exactly who we are, no matter who is watching. We will rise
to the occasion, as we always have, and prove that we live up to our values of Love,

Jokes for St. Jude’s
The second annual Jokes for St. Jude’s sold out Loyola’s Mullady Theater and raised
over $6,800 in initial estimates because 300 students, alumni, faculty, and family members
rallied to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the second consecutive year. Not
only has it sold out both years, but it is now accompanied by a series of events that take place
throughout the week that lead up to the main event. A Kickoff Night and a Letter Writing Party
were held in an effort to increase interest in Friday’s main event. Each event had strong
attendance from the Loyola community and we plan to include a new event, and sell 500 tickets,
for the third annual Jokes for St. Jude’s in 2016. We hope that our efforts to continue improving
Jokes for St. Jude’s will make it the trademark of Loyola University Chicago philanthropy
events. I cannot thank my philanthropy committee, Tau Kappa Epsilon, attendants, and St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital enough for benefitting the lives of children with such hard work
and dignity.

Red Carnation Ball
60th Anniversary
Epsilon Kappa is hosting its annual Red Carnation Ball at the Swissotel
downtown. Distinguished alumni and dates of their choosing will be invited here to
celebrate fifty nine years of excellence with the chapter. We would like nothing
more than to share this special moment with alumni who laid the foundation for the
success we reap today, especially at a time in our chapter’s history when our bond
remains stronger than ever. Here is a sneak peek at the decor of the venue which
has a remarkable view of downtown, the lakeshore, and the river. Guests will also
receive an official invitation with pricing and payment options within the next few
days.

Inter-Fraternity Council
Epsilon Kappa is proud to announce that three of its active members were
elected to executive board positions within Loyola’s Inter-Fraternity Council. We
wish them the best of luck in their duties and trust that they will protect the best
interests of Loyola’s fraternities.

Epsilon Kappa was able to recruit seventeen potential new members for induction into
our new member education process. Three candidates have had to drop our program due to
unexpected changes throughout the first half of their education. The chapter and I are confident
that the remaining fourteen are qualified to seek membership in Epsilon Kappa. Chapters 1-5 of
The Teke Guide have been covered in their process thus far, providing an account of our history
and addressing information that is fundamental to membership such as the six pillars of
scholarship, character, leadership, teamwork, service, and brotherhood, along with our core
values of charity, love, and esteem. We will continue to instill the knowledge and values of Tau
Kappa Epsilon into this class so that they will be inspired to become better men for a better
world like the classes that came before them. We hope the candidates will continue to share an
interest in our bond and work hard to complete what is expected of them.

Sweethearts
Elections for the chapter’s sweethearts were held at the beginning of this
spring semester. We decided to include a third spot for our candidates instead of
only having two. Knowing that all three of our sweethearts have represented our
values with such grace and with much success, we are glad to have introduced, and
will continue to hold, a third opening in our elections. We thank our sweethearts
