WELCOME TO POLITICOS ON PARADE!
Welcome to the League of Women Voters of Volusia County’s eighth bi-annual Politicos on
Parade fund raiser. The League is a non-partisan group and membership in the League is open
to any citizen 18 years of age and older. From its inception one focus of the League of Women
Voters has been to educate citizens by providing balanced information about issues and
moderating candidates’ forums. We study issues in depth, reach consensus on the issues and
publish these positions in our Study and Action Guide available on the web.
There are 11 amendments to the Florida Constitution that will be on the ballot in November.
The League prides itself with an informed Speaker’s Bureau, ready to explain these
amendments as well as explain the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA), otherwise
known as ObamaCare. In addition, we are available to moderate candidates’ forums for any
organization or group wishing to hear positions of the candidates. We will be posting on the
League website, www.lwvvc.org, answers to questions sent to the candidates, as long as they
respond by the deadline.
Time is of the essence. The books close for candidate qualifying on July 16 and early voting
starts August 4. Primary elections for candidates are critical and in some cases the only time
you will get to vote for your candidate. The primary is earlier than usual this year so be sure
you are prepared and ready to vote. Anyone or any group wishing to request the services of the
League should call 386-238-7361, as soon as possible.
We honor elected politicians by asking them to model for Politicos on Parade. It is a highlight
event of many of our friends who take pleasure in seeing their mayor, commissioner,
councilman or legislator enjoying him/herself as a fashion model. The money raised helps us
carry on our work of educating the citizens of Volusia County and encouraging young people
to get involved in politics.

Fashion something old into

Adopt a cat this week and enter a life of uncertainty, for we certainly keep our
caregivers guessing. We do give a lot of love though.
We were adopted in October 2008 as kittens from the Edgewater Animal Shelter
which was showing several of us at a pet store in Daytona. Our adopter had
been without a cat for several months and only
wanted one cat. When she saw us though, two
beautiful sisters, she couldn’t resist. As you can
see in our shelter mug shot on the left, we really
wanted out of there. She renamed us Hillary and
Ms. Obama, but that doesn’t mean we are
Democrats – cats are truly non-partisan and
strictly Independent.
Below is a photo of us in our home, on our
person’s favorite white chair (the better to show
off our black fur, don’t you think?). I’m afraid one of
us seems to close her eyes in photos, but we won’t
tell you which one.
You too can adopt a fun-loving and Independent cat.
Visit one of our local animal shelters. There are a lot
of us out there looking for home and love. And, we
know you need someone like us in your life.
