Partnering Together to REACH THE LOST IN TENNESSEE
(In particular the people of Hawkins and Hancock Counties)
John Parrott, Jr., Associational Missionary
At our October 2012 Annual Meeting we embraced John 17:21. We know the value of being “one”
in “spirit” and “one” in “sharing the gospel” so that all people will believe that the Father sent Jesus
into the world seeking to save the lost. As an Association we must focus on the HARVEST that is
before us and do all that we can to equip and prepare ourselves to join our LORD in the Harvest.
All our Pastors have been contacted and invited to join Steve Holt and me on Thursday,
January 24, for a time of information and discussion concerning “Harvest Plants” and the “1-5-1” emphasis for getting outside
the walls of the church building. There are two options for attending. The Pastor may choose the one he can best attend.
Then on Sunday evening, February 24, at the East Rogersville Baptist Church, our Association will be having a
“HARVEST” Evangelism Rally. Many of you will remember the past rallies we have had. We are asking that Pastors and
churches move their Sunday evening services to East Rogersville at 6:30 pm on that Sunday evening. The Rally will show our
“oneness” in encouraging one another and accepting the challenge of “working together” to win the lost in our two county
area and across Tennessee. It might be difficult for some churches to dismiss so we are
hoping that each church would at least send some representatives. It would demonstrate the value we see in working together if the majority of our churches had someone present for the Rally. Bro. Bobby Welch, TBC, will be preaching during the Rally.
May we never hear it said, “Why didn’t we join hands sooner”! It is time not only to
join hands, but hearts and prayers as we partner and cooperate together to reach the
lost in our Lord’s Name.

Moments with the Moderator
Pastor Andy Willis, FBC Rogersville
Greetings,
As we move forward into the New Year and into the
months of January and February our thoughts and minds turn
toward the spring. We wade through the cold winter months
and long for warmer days and longer evenings. The flare and
flutter of Christmas is all but gone and stores begin to fill their
aisles with chocolates and red hearts. Love is in the air! Love is
a powerful force. Perhaps the most powerful force we will ever know. It makes people do things they would never normally
do.
The late D.L. Moody used to tell the story of a young
boy growing up in the streets of Chicago who was forced to
move from his home and his church because his father found
a job on the other side of the city. Yet every Sunday the little
boy would walk across town through some of the roughest
alleys and streets of the city just to attend his church. His
friends began to criticize his devotion and one exclaimed,
“Why do you still get up every Sunday and walk all the way
across town to go to church? There are plenty of good ones
right here!” But the young boy was undeterred. His answer
was quick and stern. His reply was simple: “Because they love
me over there!” D.L. Moody would go on to say, “show me a
church where there is love and I will show you the most powerful force in the community!”
Why do we do what we do as Christians, as churches,
and as an Association? The answer is simple, because of love.
Love is our motivating force. It is because Christ first loved us
while we were yet sinners. It is because of His great love that
we continue to give, work, and serve. When we begin to love
the people in our communities as Christ loves them we will
see the fruit of our labor. When you love someone you do not
ask why you have to help them. When you love someone you
do not worry about how much of a burden it is. When you
love someone you do not focus on what sacrifices must be
made. When you love someone then you willingly sacrifice
and give. Or as the Apostle Paul instructed the Corinthians (2
Corinth 5:14), “For the love of Christ compels us…” We must
continue to reach out because of the love that first reached
out to us! And they will know that we are His disciples because
of our love for one another.
Love in Christ,
Andy
