Mel Bay built its printing and publishing building in Pacific in 1976. The firm publishes music books that are marketed through music retail stores worldwide. In 1947 Mel Bay, the founder of the publishing firm, established his business and got a grant to write a book on a different way to play the guitar. He published the book himself and sold copies from the trunk of his car while traveling to music stores around the country. He sold 12 million copies. To date Mel Bay Publishing publishes how-to music books to thousands of musicians.
