INTERMEDIATE APPRENTICESHIP IN RAIL ENGINEERING
This course is 18-months long with 9 weeks full-time training followed by day release at the Training
Provider. Level 2 NVQ Diploma Railway Engineering, Technical Certificate Rail Engineering and a
Key Skills qualification.
There is a bonus two week course to obtain a ‘Personal Track Safety’ (PTS) and ‘Track Induction’
(TIC). This is free providing a Network Rail Medical and Drugs & Alcohol test is passed
After the initial 9 week training period candidates are assessed by their Trainer. An Amber Recruit
representative will promote the recommended candidates to employers. Successful completion of
all aspects of this training is essential in order to gain employment opportunities
Candidates will be paid during the Apprenticeship training period but not during the bonus course

NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE RATES from 1 October 2011
The level of NMW depends on your age and whether you are an apprentice. The current rates are:
•
£6.08 - the main rate for workers aged 21 and over
•
£4.98 - the 18-20 rate
•
£3.68 - the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18
•
£2.60 – is the rate for apprentices under 19. Those over 19 will get this rate for the first
year of their apprenticeship but then must be paid the National Minimum Wage.
