MUST-DOS
A LANDSCAPE DRAWN BY THE SEA
The park’s exceptional nature derives from its sharply carved coastline,
its mountains rising above those in the surrounding areas, and its rare and
fragile flora.
The park covers a total area 33.2 square kilometres, nearly half of which
is in the marine zone. You can watch the park’s emblematic animals, the
harbor seals, from the shore. The park is open year round, with every
season bringing new discoveries.
PIC CHAMPLAIN
BIKE OUTING
Hike up or take the shuttle bus
to reach the 346-metre peak and
enjoy the bird’s-eye view of the
park and estuary.
The network of beautiful bike
trails is suitable for the whole
family. You’ll fall in love with the
park’s diverse landscapes.
CHEMIN DU NORD
SEA KAYAKING
This trail along the shore is
the perfect hike for those who
enjoy quiet contemplation of
nature. Be sure to stop in at
the tearoom.
With its islands and lacework
of coves and bays, the park is
one of the most beautiful
destinations for kayakers.

WILDLIFE WATCHING
SEALS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Seal watching is without a doubt one of the park’s
major attractions. As you explore the Parc national
du Bic, you’ll probably get a chance to see the
harbour seal, the park’s emblematic animal
and a permanent resident of the estuary.
TO FREELY OBSERVE THE SEALS
It is extremely important that everyone respect the
limits of the seal observation area. If you get too
close to them, the seals feel threatened and will
leave their resting area and move away.
During the summer and even in September, the park
and the surrounding reefs are home to a population
of about 200 harbour seals and some 50 grey seals
that love to lounge on the boulders in the coves and
bays of the park.
By staying on the beach, you will not only avoid
disturbing the resting seals, but you also let them
go about their vital activities and life stages, such
as nursing their young and moulting. Keeping a
respectful distance also helps ensure that other
visitors – present and future – can enjoy the
privilege of observing these fascinating and playful
animals.
WHERE CAN I WATCH THE SEALS?
The seals choose their favourite resting places
depending on the stage of the tide, as the water
must be high enough for the seals to reach
the rocks.

THE RAOUL-ROY LOOKOUT
AN EXCEPTIONNAL OBSERVATION POINT
FOR WATCHING BIRDS OF PREY
In the spring, most raptors leave their winter home in
the southern Appalachians and migrate northward.
On their way toward their breeding grounds, they
have to overcome one very substantial obstacle: the
Gulf of the Saint Lawrence. They use a flyway along
the shores of the estuary, seeking a place where it
is narrow enough to cross so they can reach their
summer quarters.
During this annual migration, thousands of birds
of prey pass over the lookout, making it one of the
favourite gathering places for park visitors and
birdwatching enthusiasts. Sixteen species are
regularly spotted between late March and early June
each year.

PROJET RIOUX
Come enjoy these short concerts performed by duets
of students from the Conservatoire de Rimouski. This
series of musical concerts is presented in collaboration
with Concerts aux îles du Bic.
The 4th edition of Projet Rioux presents five artists
in residence at the Maison Rioux, one of the
heritage buildings in the heart of the park. The
multidisciplinary artists selected this year will
create original works that will transform the site
into a meeting place between the public and
art. Through workshops, demonstrations and
performance, these artists offer visitors a new way
to experience the landscapes, natural environment
and heritage of the park.

CONSERVATION
CONSERVATION IS EVERYONE’S BUSINESS
The Parc national du Bic has been dealing with a delicate
issue: some of the wildlife here have been developing unusual
behaviour toward humans. To solve this problem, the park’s
team needs all visitors to help by letting the wild animals –
deer, foxes and other species – remain...
... FREE AND SELF-SUFFICIENT
In order for the park’s wildlife to survive and live independently in
nature, they need to develop their skills, keep their senses sharp and
stay in good physical condition.
WHY NOT FEED THE ANIMALS?
• Wild animals find food suited to their needs in the natural
environment;
• Animals attracted by food can lose their wariness of humans, leading to potential trouble and even danger;
• Feeding animals makes them dependent on humans and more
vulnerable to predators;
• The food people provide may not be appropriate for the animals’
digestive system or nutritional needs, causing health problems or
even death;
• Every time we disrupt their natural activities, we change their
behaviour, sometimes putting their lives at risk;
• Feeding the animals is a prosecutable offense under park
regulations.
HEALTHY COEXISTENCE FOR EVERYONE’S BENEFIT
It is very important that visitors do not try to approach wild animals.
Keep your distance, giving them a wide berth. If an animal gets
nervous, that means you are too close. If you see someone approach
an animal, please help our efforts by informing them of these
guidelines.

TOMBOLO SECTOR – OPENING SCHEDULED FOR 2017
The beautiful sector between the Baie du Ha! Ha! and Baie des Cochons – where the Cap à l’Orignal
summer camp was located until 2013 – will be converted to a new site ready to open in 2017. The familyoriented facilities will create an ideal setting for visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the St. Lawrence
estuary. In addition to new campsites and “experience” accommodations, Pôle Tombolo will feature areas
that encourage the whole family to get out and play in the great outdoors.
We make every effort to preserve the peace and quiet of the park for our visitors. We apologize for any
temporary inconvenience caused by the construction of these new facilities.

REMINDERS
During your visit to a national park, you must always carry your entry fee receipt or your annual
entry card.
To preserve our natural riches, you are not allowed to remove any natural elements (animals, plants,
dead wood, rocks, etc.). Please also keep to established hiking trails to avoid trampling flora.
Animals find all they need to eat in nature. Feeding wildlife can be very damaging. Keep food or
garbage out of reach of animals.
We ask you to carry out all your garbage.
Domestic animals are not accepted in Québec’s national parks. However, guide dogs and service
dogs are admitted.
PILOT PROJECT AUTHORIZING DOGS
As of May 20, 2016, a pilot project will be in place, authorizing the presence of dogs in
FRONTENAC, JACQUES-CARTIER and OKA national parks. Please read the applicable rules
and authorized places at sepaq.com/animals.
