He has been on the faculty of the University of the Philippines College of Music since 1980. On the invitation of other Asian universities, he has given master classes in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. He serves as an examiner for the Associated Board of Royal Schools in Indonesia and continues to give lessons at the Asian Institute for Liturgical Music. For the UP Guitar Ensemble, which he directs, he has arranged numerous orchestral pieces. His transcriptions stretch the instrument's technical limits to the utmost, while retaining each score's original music line. As an artist, Lester has performed at the American Colleges in Chicago, Sejong Hall in Korea, Australia's Melbourne Concert Hall and the Chuo Center Hall in Osaka, Japan, among others. In the Philippines, he averages 50 concerts a year. Carsten Linck– Guitarist Carsten Linck studied with Prof. Hans Gräf at the Folkwang Musikhochschule, Essen and with Prof. Maritta Kersting at the Robert Schumann School, Düsseldorf. At the same time he studied chamber music with Prof. Iwona Salling in Essen, where he passed his exams with distinction. Additional artistic guidance was given to him by Prof. Karl Scheit (Vienna) and Prof. Per-Olof Johnson (Malmö). He plays a repertoire from the early Renaissance to first performances of contemporary compositions, where he uses different instruments for works of different style epoques. Besides the common 6-string concert guitar used for works after 1900, he plays Renaissance and Baroque music on an 11-string alto guitar made by Georg Bolin. More than once Carsten Linck has been a laureate of “Jugend musiziert”, Germany’s national award for young musicians, as well as of the first prize at the “Internationaler Bubenreuther Musikwettbewerb”. For his artistic work he received the culture award of the city of Essen in 1992. TABS The Tabs Trio is a group of three of the most prominent classical guitarists in the country, Lester Demetillo, Armando "Tabo" Derecho and Jeffrey Malazo. Each has contributed to the Philippine classical guitar scene in a unique and invaluable way, earning the respect of many generations. Its history stems from that of the UP Guitar Orchestra. Lester Demetillo, one of the Philippines' leading classical performers and a professor in the University of the Philippines College of Music, organized the UP Guitar Ensemble, a group of nine promising classical guitarists and the first guitar ensemble in the country. The group impressed the musical scene with its debut concert, which featured Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 - scored for nine guitars. The ensemble then performed in major concerts in the country and toured in countries such as France, England, Italy, Germany, Scotland, Spain, the United States and Australia. The group became a quartet at one point with Lester, Tabo and Jeffrey as the nucleus and successfully produced two records; The UP Guitar Ensemble "Classical Music" and "Original Pilipino Music". In 2009, the three regrouped and formally named their group TABS since the trio all uses Armando "Tabo" Derecho guitars. Tabo's masterfully handcrafted classical guitars have earned the respect of serious classical guitar players in the Philippines and in the rest of the world. Tabo has demonstrated that the Filipino luthier is capable of producing world-class guitars that produce exquisite, balanced tones at good volume but at reasonable prices. Since then, the Tabs Trio continues to perform while maintaining the prestige of being the top contributors of the classical guitar scene today.
