Baraga Avenue Harvest Fest Celebrates Fall in Downtown
The third annual Baraga Avenue Harvest Fest will take place on Saturday, October 10, from 3 p.m. to
8 p.m. on the 100 block of Baraga Avenue in Downtown Marquette. Bustling with harvest-themed activities
for all ages, the festival features food and drink, live music, street dance, children’s activities and much more.
Returning this year is the popular pasty eating contest, sponsored by Jean Kay’s Pasties. Downtown district
businesses will highlight their offerings with sales and information booths. The younger set is invited to
explore large equipment, emergency response vehicles and construction trucks at the “big truck petting zoo”,
while the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum will once again sponsor a chalk art exhibition and contest
featuring street-canvas harvest-themed paintings by local artists, individuals and groups. For more
information on the chalk painting or to sponsor a square, visit www.upchildrensmuseum.com.
The return of past favorites will be complemented by new additions to
this year’s festival. The big truck petting zoo will be joined by a live
animal petting zoo, bounce house and miniature golf course, and the
adventurous of heart can even ride a mechanical bull. The Marquette
Regional History Center will host a Henry Ford display featuring classic
Ford vehicles in their courtyard. Come celebrate fall and its bountiful
beauty at the Baraga Avenue Harvest Fest. For more information,

September at the Farmers Market
September at the Downtown Marquette Farmers Market is
ripe with bountiful harvests, food demonstrations and special
programming to welcome the autumn season. Labor Day, for
many people, brings about a
change in schedule and is therefore
seen as a mini new year: a time to
focus on something new or make
changes. September will open with a
highlight on personal care products that
are available at the market. One of the
many fantastic benefits of the market is
that you always have the opportunity to Downtown Marquette Farmers Market
visit with the product producer to gain
an understanding of the product’s value, how it was made and how to use it.
Cooking demonstrations will be held most weeks through September and
into October. The YMCA of Marquette will have a series of cooking
demonstrations focused on the Achieve Restaurant program and Discover
Michigan Fresh will be at the market through the end of October providing
shoppers with information and to answer any questions on how to use and
store the delicious food that is found at the market. What will you find in
season during the months of September and October? Apples, peaches,
pears, honey, beets, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower,
celery, corn, eggplant, garlic, onions, parsnips, peppers, potatoes, pumpkins,
tomatoes, winter squash and much more. The market proudly welcomes
NMU students on Saturday, September 26.
The Downtown Marquette Farmers Market is open Saturdays through
December 19 at the Marquette Commons, 112 South Third Street, from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks, Project FRESH and Market
FRESH food assistance benefits are all available through October 31. For
additional information call 906-362-3276 or visit
