The Catechism of the Catholic Church gives the assurance (#1390) that Christ is present in a sacramental way under each form—the bread and the wine – and that receiving only the bread (the host) brings all the grace of the Eucharist. At the same time, “the sign of communion is more complete when given under both kinds, since in that form the sign of the Eucharistic meal appears more clearly.” Parish Picnic: TODAY Our annual Parish Picnic will be held today on the school side field. We will begin our picnic after the Noon Mass. Please make plans to come and share food, fun and fellowship! Sacred Heart School Open House: Sacred Heart School of Glyndon Sacred Heart School of Glyndon is a vibrant, faithfilled co-ed school community for students in Grades Pre-K through 8, and we welcome new families! Join us on Saturday October 17, from 10:00 AM to noon, for tours, light refreshments and a family-friendly afternoon, to learn more about The Heart! Our teachers and staff will be on hand to meet you and your child, answer questions and provide information about our curriculum, our student experience and our wonderful school. RSVPs are preferred, but not necessary; all are invited to join us—and bring your little ones, too! For more information, please contact Kris Roeder at [email protected] or call 410-833-0857. Fellow Parishioners, In Romans 15:13, St. Paul writes, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” To me, abounding in hope is a powerful message, one that, St. Paul attests, can only occur because of the His Holy Spirit. I believe that hope and love are the most abundant resources of Sacred Heart, and I find them here every day. Here are three examples from the week of Sept 7th: I saw a new student in the hallway one afternoon and asked her how things were going. She responded, very excitedly, “I love this school! I have so much fun here and I’m so happy to be here!” Not every student may say express this sentiment quite so directly, but I see that joy and happiness in our students every morning, and it was wonderful to hear her say that. A new staff member wanted to help with one of our orientation events. She created a very inviting welcome by ordering balloons, greeting parents with new Sacred Heart information cards featuring student artwork, and sending thank-you cards for attending the event. Her level of passion to increase our support to our families is a tremendous gift, and gives me great hope about the love in our community. Mr. Coyle, Principal Children’s Liturgy of the Word on Hiatus The weekly “Children’s Liturgy of the Word” (CLOW) is in need of a new leader and several new volunteers. For now, there will be NO CLOW. For many years at the Sunday 9:00 AM Mass, our children have participated in a liturgy geared toward their age and understanding. This meaningful Mass experience can make such a difference helping to build a stronger faith foundation. Our teachers and timers usually helped out every four – six weeks, and lessons and materials are supplied. If you can offer a few Sundays a year to this ministry or could possibly serve as the new CLOW leader, please contact Sister Cecilia at 410-833-8515 or [email protected]. Thank you! You embrace with your tenderness all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one. O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes. Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth. Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light. We thank you for being with us each day. Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace. -- from Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si’ SHGSC'S 2nd ANNUAL BULL & OYSTER ROAST Menu to include: SATURDAY October 17, 2015 7-11pm Pit beef, pit turkey, oysters on the half shell, macaroni and cheese, assorted salads, soda, beer, and more! $45 ADVANCE $50 DOOR SACRED HEART SCHOOL 63 SACRED HEART LANE GLYNDON 21071 Music, Dancing, 50/50 Silent Auction, Money Wheel Name Address City Phone Team #Tickets State Email Zip code @ $45/each = Total Cost Checks or money orders can be made out to SHGSC and either given to your child's coach or mailed to SHGSC, C/O Ann Wheeler, P.O.
