I pray that this correspondence finds you experiencing the wonderful grace and
mercy of our Almighty God. Everyone should have received my letter in the
mail by now. The William Carey quote: “Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God”, has been a theme of my visionary ministry for over
two decades.

God blessed our attempt to impact New Orleans East with the Gospel and love
of Jesus Christ. Our team consisted of six chaperones and eleven youth. We
conducted a Vacation Bible School and produced four music videos. The focused activity was directed at music and dance. The Evangecube was well received by all the participants. Thank you for your prayerful support and I am
pleased to share with you that many seeds were planted and five recorded decisions were made. I am so proud of the efforts that Bro. Tommy and our team
displayed. Our team, along with Bro. Tommy as our leader, represented our
Lord and Savior and our church well.
The letter I sent to you included the Vision Team Survey results. Bro. Terry is
presently gathering the information needed to report the cost of the top four
items. Please begin praying for the Stewardship Committee as they prepare for
a fund raising campaign.
We are excited about “Taking It To The Streets”, Back-Yard-Bible-Clubs.
Your help during this new approach is greatly needed and appreciated. We
have three exciting events that we will experience in August: 1) August 14, AM
Service, Zachariah Anani - Unique Missionary to Muslims. 2) August 19-20,
Shiloh Baptist Church, “Impact 1” Men’s Conference with Dr. James Merit.
3) August 28th, Homecoming, Rev. Greg Free, former Pastor Alvin Free's
grandson, will be our guest speaker.

We are now in partnership with the local Christian radio station, J103. I have weekly radio spots,
“A Pastor’s Ponderings”. Contact the church office to find out the various air times. Also, we now
have a church link on J103’s main web page. Within our link is our website in which our newsletter
can be viewed. Future major events in our church will be announced on J103. You can view all of
our events on J103’s community calendar at www.j103.com/communitycalendar. The average
J103 monthly page views exceeds 200,000 hits.
Last month we focused on the answer to the question, "What is prayer?". Prayer is talking and listening to God. Consequently, making known our requests to God means we must listen for His answer when we "call Him up".
What is the most important phone number that you know? What will be the most important
call you can make today? Do you know God’s telephone number?
Jeremiah was shut up in the court of the prison. He was alone, from a human perspective, as far as
we can tell from the Biblical text. But, was he really alone? If, God is everywhere at all times, then
Jeremiah was not truly alone. Jeremiah always called upon God, and he expected to be answered,
and have a solution to the problems he was facing.
God’s phone number is Jeremiah 33:3
Jeremiah 33:3 3Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things,
which thou knowest not.
Call on God, and He will answer you, then you will be exposed to the things of the supernatural that
cannot be explained in the natural. How can you know of the mighty things, if, you have not called
on our might God?
The news in the "Valley Voice" is both current and important. The fact that we have multiple media
sources in which it is recorded is great. You can share our newsletter by letting people know of its
various locations. I hope and pray that you are part of helping us make future positive news at
CVBC.

2011 is the ten year anniversary of 9/11. Even though we have moved on, no one has forgotten. On
Sunday, September 11, the music ministry of Chattanooga Valley Baptist, will present a stirring patriotic musical entitled, “America, We Must Not Forget”. The musical will feature a salute to all of the
public service workers such as police, firefighters, EMS workers as well as our armed services.
We are inviting representatives of all these organizations to be in attendance. Their presence will be
heartwarming and inspiring as we look back to that “dark day” while looking forward to the future.
This musical is God-centered and flag-waving packed!
Here is a quote from the writers of this musical that you will find uplifting.
“Following the terrorists attacks of September 11, 2001, a common statement could be seen on bumper
stickers and banners, at ball games and parades. That statement was: “We will never forget.” There is
no doubt that we will never forget that we were attacked by an enemy resolute to see our demise as a
nation. But are there other things America must never forget? The answer is a resounding, “Yes!”
America must never forget our heritage as a Christian nation, or those who gave and still give to protect
our freedom and our spiritual strength. But, most of all, we must not forget that our hope is in Almighty God!”
Make your plans now and invite everyone in the community.

MissionLab Team
17 youth and adults attended MissionLab: New Orleans the week
of July 9-16. We travelled by bus and train to the “City That Care
Forgot” and we changed the name to the “City That Is Not Forgotten”. We worked with the ABC Excite Day Camp ministry on
Franklin Ave. Through music, games, crafts, and bible study the
children learned how Jesus is like us in many ways, but the Savior
to the world. Five children accepted Christ as a result of this mission trip. Praise the Lord!
Next Summer We Go To Belmont University in
Nashville, TN for our High School/College
Mission Trip in July 2012!
Middle School Youth Camp
Another 15 youth and adults attended our very first Middle School only
youth camp the week of June 20-24, 2011 at Carson-Newman College in
Jefferson City, TN. We spent the week in bible study, group recreation,
track times, free time, and church group devotion time learning more
about how God “Connects” with us through authority figures, our parents
and family, our friends, and our church. We had a wonderful group bonding experience and found out that offering a middle school only camp option is one of the neatest ideas we have had in a long time.
Next Summer We Return to Carson-Newman
for Middle School Youth Camp in June 2012!

Summer has been an exciting time for us in Young At Heart. We have had some special people to come join
with us on our monthly meetings. June was especially a blessing, for we were privileged to have John and Sue
Ann Dunn and the “Gloryland Singers” bring their blend of gospel, contemporary and traditional musical program to us, all twenty two of them! What a joyous time this was! The fellowship was wonderful also as we sat
around the tables sharing our “covered dishes” and our conversation. Also present with us was a group of
young people who traveled all the way from New Orleans to just come, pitch in and help where ever
needed. They went out to the storm victims and lent a hand in just cleaning up debris left over from the tornadoes that ravaged our beautiful Chattanooga Valley. What a blessing! For you see, all have not strayed away
and this group of young people proved it.
August is approaching quickly. I know there are still some away on vacation, but those of you who are 50+,
come see for yourself….we are a fun-loving bunch of “young-at-heart” people who know how to cook, keep a
good conversation going, and have fun!

“Daycare News”
Gayle Dickerson
Director
Our summer program is in full swing. The children are swimming, hiking, going to parks for picnics, just having a good time. The children have a Bible story each day to start the day off right. We need to come together
and listen to one another. The children have real concerns and by listening, we often can help and make a difference in their lives. School starts early for some. We will miss them until next year when some will return
and others too old to come back. It is hard to get older sometimes, but I do believe we make a positive input in
their lives. VBs will be a real happening for all the children. We are looking forward to this special week.
May God be in the midst of it all.
In Christ Love,
Ms. Gayle
“Zachariah Anani”
Missionary
August 14th
AM Service
Zachariah Anani was born in Beirut, Lebanon and was raised in a Muslim Home. His Grandfather and great
grandfather were Muslim holy men. He joined the Lebanese militia when he was a young teenager and had his
first kill shortly thereafter. He was saved through the ministry of a Southern Baptist missionary in Lebanon.
Since that time, he has been a bold witness for Christ.
Because of his strong stand, there have been many attempts made on his life. He has sixteen wounds on his
body as a result. God has miraculously spared him!
Zach has led many Muslims to faith in Christ, some have been martyred for their faith. Zach will share his testimony and tell about his work.

Christmas In August
August 7th - August 28th
Each year during the month of August, Southern Baptist Churches choose a North American
Missionary and supply items needed in their ministry. Our missionary this year is John Eldridge, Walker State Prison Chaplain. He has listed several items he needs for gift bags for
the prisoners. He uses these in his ministry as Chaplain.
Each Sunday School class is asked to help supply one of these items. Your item is highlighted in the list
below. If you are not enrolled in a Class, you may select any item on the list. These items can be found
at any Dollar Store. Please leave your items in the containers in the back vestibule.
Soap
Deodorant
Shampoo
Pens or Pencils
Toothbrushes
Toothpaste
