The Celebration Dinner at Seawell’s on Saturday, July 30, 6 p.m.,
will be a special night of entertainment and special memories. Please
don’t miss this opportunity to spend
time with past and present members
and staff. Invitations are being printed
and will be mailed. Everyone is invited! If you do not receive an invitation,
please contact the church office. A
response card is also included for
reservations. This is not a ticketed
event, however, there will be a guest
list of those who respond at the door.
We want everyone to have an opportunity to attend. Should you need
any assistance with the token charge
($10) for the meal, please do not
hesitate to contact the church office.
We want to see you there! The SSBC
bus will be available to transport
members and guests to Seawell’s.
Please contact the church office
should you wish to sign up. (Bus will
depart at 5:30 p.m.)
At the Worship Service on Sunday,
July 31, 10 a.m., Dr. Eddie Leopard will be our guest speaker. There will be no Sunday School
that day, but we will have an extended worship service to praise God for what He has done
here at State Street Baptist for the past 75 years and to ask for His guidance as we move to the
future.

Chet’s News
Dr. Chet Andrews
Senior Pastor
Often the month of July conjures up memories of fireworks,
vacation, and trying to stay cool in the sweltering heat. As a
matter of fact, Columbia, SC has adopted the slogan,
“Famously Hot” in which they acknowledge that not only are
our temperatures hot, but our attractions are hot as well.
July at State Street is also going to be HOT! Our Vacation
Bible School (Cave Quest) is going to be July 22-24. The
week looks abbreviated but our VBS schedule will allow for
just as much discipleship as a full week of VBS. The goal of
Cave Quest is to “ground kids in the rock-solid foundation of
God’s love, a love that takes us through life’s dark times.”
You can register online at http://statestreetbaptist.org/vbs/.
The weekend of July 30-31 is also significantly important to
the life of our church as we celebrate 75 years of ministry
here at State Street. Jesus has been faithfully exalted for
three-quarters of a century here at State Street and that deserves celebrating!!! Our celebration will start on Saturday
July 30 at Seawell’s Banquet Facility at 6 p.m. There we will
celebrate the past as we look to the future. Former member
from childhood and current pastor of Riverland Hills Baptist
Church in Irmo, Dr. Ed Carney, will join us on Saturday, July 30. Dr. Carney will share about the rich history of
State Street and the bold proclamation of Jesus to our community and abroad over the years. We are also excited to
welcome Dr. Eddie Leopard as he preaches at our special
extended worship service on July 31 which starts at 10 a.m.
Dr. Leopard also grew up at State Street and is now the pastor of Fairview Baptist Church in Greer, SC. I had the privilege of serving on staff with Eddie at Fairview and I know
Eddie will both celebrate our history and challenge us as we
head into the future to continue to boldly proclaim the Gospel
in word and deed.
One of the things that makes State Street so special is the
constant show of generosity to so many. My family has been
the recipient of that generosity since day one. On behalf of
Hope and our children, I want to thank you for the generous
gift of the many gift cards you gave us as we settle into our
new home. Hope and I continue to be amazed at your expressions of love you so generously pour out on us. Your
openhandedness reflects your love for Christ! “You will be
enriched in every way so that you can always be generous.
And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they
will thank God” 2 Corinthians 9:11.
• VBS: July 22nd - 24th
• Coast 2 Coast Mission Camp: Sunday, August 8th-12th
June 26, 2016 Church Conference
The following recommendations were approved at the June 26th Church Conference:
• That REI Engineers provide a plan of action to correct issues with the Sanctuary roof
leaks as well as problems with the flat roof on
the Educational Building at a cost of $2,140.00 to come from the
Capital Fund.
• That Betty Platt be paid $10.00/hour for additional time it is requiring her to complete assigned tasks.
• That we spend up to $4,500.00 for the publication of the church
history book by Smith Printing, which was the lowest bidder. The
funds are to come from past and future sales of the book with the
remainder to come from line item 270.00, a one-time expenditure
for the 75th anniversary. Virginia Martin thanked Janis West’s
daughter, Libby Hutto, for her donation of hundreds of hours to
make this book a reality.

Dear State Street Family,
I want to thank my church family for the love you have
shown me during the hard road I have been on the last
several weeks. You have visited, you have called, brought
some good food, prayed and you have been so good. I
wish I could get back to church and fellowship with you like
normal. I don’t know when! I love all of you.
Come see me!
Pete Driggers
Dear Friends,
You can’t possibly imagine how much I have missed the
services and fellowship of my church family these last
months. Thank you for your prayer support, visits, cards,
and letters and kindnesses from those who have reached
out to me. May God send you a special blessing.
Love,
Geraldine Ellison
Dear Church Family,
Thanks for the cards, calls, emails, and especially, the
prayers. I know the prayers were important to the outcome
of my surgery. Please continue to mention me in your prayers as I have treatments ahead of me.
May God bless you,
Lynda Hoffman
Thank you for all the cards, calls, visits, prayer quilt, and
your prayers during my time of sickness. I am glad to be
back home. Please continue to remember me in your prayers as I continue to cope with my sickness. I hope to be
back with my church family soon.

Security Team
Since our society is in a state of constant change, we are thinking
and acting more proactive. Our greeters on Sunday morning are
much more alert to our surrendering environment. The greeters
inside the church and outside on our campus are not only very
welcoming and helpful to our members and guests, but they are
also alert and attentive in providing a safe place to worship.
We are also scheduling some special training for those who are
interested in being a part of our security team. In August we will
take those who are interested to Charleston for free training on
how to keep our campus more safe. We will give more details as
we get closer to August.
LONG RANGE PLANNING COMMITTEE
MEMBERS IN ACTION
Update
Children’s Church
The Long Range Planning Committee would like to thank our church
membership and staff for your patience and your positive support
during our renovation process. Every temporary relocation, request to
move, or reroute through a different door has been accepted with a
gracious and loving spirit. As we begin to see the dirt move and the
walls and ceilings change, there is a sense of excitement in the air
and we are looking forward to more exciting changes to come!
As of mid-June, over $240,000 has been given to our renovations
project. To God be the glory! Your giving is a reflection of your commitment to the future of our church. We want to emphasize that giving to our church budget continues to be a priority. Giving to our renovations is "over and above" giving. God gives us the opportunity to
participate in His Kingdom work through our giving and we thank Him
for the blessing that we receive through giving from HIS provision!
During the month of July, several major renovations will begin to take
shape. Preparations for the new Welcome Center and bathrooms on
the first floor have already begun and we will be able to see these
areas develop. Elevator preparations have been made to strengthen
the foundation and you will soon begin to see the building of the
structure to house the elevator. The new ceiling tiles in the L Avenue
hall have added a fresh, clean appearance and painting in our office
suite has given that area a nice change. In several weeks, we will
begin renovations in the nursery hall to provide new access doors
and a new 4/5 year & children's church room! There are many
changes that you won't see visibly, but they will greatly enhance our
campus, such as improving our courtyard drainage to protect from
water entering our buildings and new heating and air enhancements.
As we begin to see changes take shape, we will also begin to consider how our church can best utilize these enhancements for the glory
of God. Our renovations are simply tools for facilitating fellowship,
opportunities for witness, and worship. During the coming months,
the Long Range Planning coming will be meeting with staff and other
groups to make plans for celebrating our changes, communicating
our commitment to the future of ministering in Jesus' name in our
community, welcoming new families, and actively involving our
church family in sharing the love of Christ to all who come to our
campus. Opportunities for service abound and we are enthusiastically anticipating what God will have us do for His glory in the future!
Please continue to:
 Pray for the workers that will be on our campus. Pray for their
safety as they go about their work. Pray especially that we might be a
positive witness for Christ as they work alongside us day by day.

Pray for our pursuit of closing K Avenue so that we will be able
to add much needed additional parking spaces and enhance the
overall parking of our church.

Pray for our staff and committees that will be working to try to
make these transitions run as efficiently as possible.

Pray for our financial commitment to complete this project.
Pray that these renovations will enhance our worship, strengthen our
witness, and bring glory to God!
