VIRTUS – Protecting God’s Children (English)
Tuesday, October 25, 5:30 – 8:30 pm
Corpus Christi Church - Prefontaine Hall
The VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children program, offered
through the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, is required of all
clergy, employees, ministers and volunteers who work with children, or come into contact with the youth, elderly, hospitalized
and homebound of our parish. The program teaches us to recognize the signs of abuse to the most vulnerable members of
our society. Learn the ways offenders commit abuse and the
legal steps required to reporting abuse. Attending a VIRTUS
class includes undergoing a criminal background check.
VIRTUS is required if you wish to volunteer in your child’s classroom, chaperone a field trip or attend a class party. To register
for the October 25 session, log on to www.virtus.org. Seating is
limited to 50 participants; register early. This training session is
for NEW VOLUNTEERS, and for those who took VIRTUS several years ago, but have not attended the follow-up session, Keeping the Promise Alive.
For help with registration, or to find out when you took the class,
contact Parish Coordinator, Connie Rodriquez, 713 667 0497.

CORPUS CHRISTI
YEAR OF MERCY—ART FESTIVAL
In the vestibule, the Art and Environment committee has
put together a piece of art for the Year of Mercy. It could
be titled “Recycling Mercy.” Materials used for the piece
are recycled or repurposed, beginning with the used
fence boards that provide the structure for the piece. On
the boards is written the word “mercy” in some of the various languages spoken in the parish. The words are formed out of a variety of
mediums that reflects the diversity of cultures present in our parish.
Just as this piece was made with items that have been recycled and reused, we can always recycle mercy once it has been given to us. We
can use it as well to show mercy to others, never letting mercy be
thrown away, but instead be re-used and re-distributed.
On the wall opposite “Recycling Mercy,” the empty frames, empty
stands on which to place artwork, empty embroidery hoop, and empty
music stand remains. We have these placed in the vestibule to encourage Corpus Christi parishioners to think of how they would fill these
empty spaces with an expression of God’s mercy. We invite you to
spend the next two months contemplating and creating a vision of the
mercy of God. Consider this invitation as a way to meditate upon and
internalize this beautiful idea of God’s mercy.
We invite you to share your creation with the parish. All art should
be completed and delivered to the parish office by Friday, November 4th. Then, over the weekend of November 12th and 13th, the
weekend before the close of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, we will
have an Art Festival in Prefontaine Hall. The art created by our
parishioners will be on display after the Masses for everyone to enjoy.
More details will follow regarding the specifics of the Art Festival
weekend. For now, consider what creative expression you might offer
to our parish as a reflection of God’s mercy.
If you have any questions, please call the parish office at 713-6670497 and ask for Joe Patrick.
VIRTUS Facilitators Needed

LITE Your Fire for the Eucharist
You are invited to participate in the Life in the Eucharist (LITE) program coming from the Associates this
Fall. During five, two-hour sessions, teams of laity
and clergy of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, including Father Bill Fickle, will lead you to a
deeper appreciation of the Eucharist following the
scripture and teachings of St. Peter Julian Eymard through music, stories and exercises.
The five presentations are designed to give you a better understanding
of the Eucharist as Celebration, Contemplation, and Communion. This
approach offers a comprehensive view of the Eucharistic mystery. “In
the Eucharist, Christ is always renewing His gift of self, which He made
on the Cross,” Pope Francis has said. “His whole life is an act of total
sharing of self out of love.” Our hope is the LITE program will help you
grow in personal prayer and adoration to benefit from the Eucharist in
your daily life.
The program began last Thursday and continues on the following second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 7:00—9:30 p.m, Sept.
22, Oct. 13 & 27, and Nov. 10. To register for the LITE program, contact
Noreen Hoard at [email protected]. Please consider committing to
the journey of faith and adoration which requires participation in all five
sessions.

Sra. Claudia Sereno
