Paxtang residents Arts and crafts music preschool activities sports and special events are the main features offered under supervision of qualified mature leaders THEMES Each week a theme has been selected to add variety to the program Check your local bulletin board for the program of activity each week Activities are planned in keeping with each theme Earth Week July 19 23 Disney Week July 26 30 Olympic Week August 2 6 Be Kind to Animals Week August 9 June 21 25 June 28 July July July 2 6 Summer 9 12 16 Circus and Carnival Week Holiday Foreign Week Countries Week Beach Mania Week 13 ARTS AND CRAFTS PROGRAM and Girls Boys Ages 3 15 This year the Recreation Department will combine the Arts and Crafts program to include instruction for the preschool age child Our Preschool Arts Crafts Supervisor will provide children between the ages of 3 and 15 with following activities Painting games coloring drawing and music The Preschool Arts and Crafts Supervisor will visit each park during over 60 children and their parents Children will receive two games of bowling and shoes for 5 00 per person Pre registration is required WEEKLY SPORTS THEMES The Township Recreation to Ages 6 15 Department will be offering Free AthleticTraining Classes at each of the parks throughout the summer program Each week adifferent sport will be introduced activity forthe week Our Athletic Supervisor Swatara Jr High School on Wednesday July 7 2010 beginning at 9 00 prize ribbons BICYCLE RODEO are divided into four age groups 6 8 9 11 12 13 1415 am Ages 6 15 Township Recreation Department is sponsoring a Bicycle Rodeo at all parks during week 1 June 21 of the summerplayground program The Athletic Supervisor will conducteach Rodeo Your rodeowill be held during the time scheduled forwhen theAthletic Supervisor visits your playground Check with your playground leader forexact times You need to bring your bicycle helmet and knee pads Events will include Bicycle Safety Tips Bicycle Inspection Obstacle Course and registration Certificates will be awarded The Swatara MILLERSBURG FERRY AND LAKE TOBIAS WILDLIFE PARK Swatara Recreation would like to announce our first bus trip of the summer The trip is scheduled for Thursday July 8 We will be traveling to the Millersburg Ferry and Lake Tobias Wildlife Park The cost for this trip is 15 per child and includes admission into Lake Tobias and transportation The bus will leave from the township building at 9 00 a m and return at 4 30 p m Children should bring a brown bag lunch and money for a drink Permission slips are required Be sure to sign up early seats are limited PLAYGROUND REGISTRATION FORM LITTLE BUFFALO STATE PARK Our second bus CHILD S NAME picnic and trip will be to the swimming The bus Little Buffalo State Park Police National Night Out National Night Out is for all Swatara Township families and will be held on Tuesday August 3 at Gerald H Vanatta Memorial Park in Lawnton Thiswill be a fun night and Recreation Program ended on Friday August 14 The summer consisted of many activities and field trips It began with a Sports Supervisor Dan Guerrisi followed by trips to Wheelz of Fire Skating Center Laudenslager s Dairy Farm and Lake Tobias Challenge Miniature Golf in Hummelstown ABC East Bowling Center and Little Buffalo State Park in Newport Bike Rodeo run by Wildlife Park The first activity of the year skating party at Wheelz of Fire Skating Center All together 88 kids and park leaders participated in a fun day of to Laudenslager s Dairy Farm and Lake Tobias Wildlife Park A total of 39 kids and 8 park leaders boarded a bus and made the trip to Halifax for a fun day at a dairy farm and the wildlife reserve Between the fun of skating and the trip to Halifax the parks program hosted its annual inter park Olympics held on Wednesday July 8 All the parks had their children competing in a wide variety of individual events including the 100 yard dash sponge race skating The next trip of the long jump and obstacle team events was a summerwas course as well as three In the end Chambers Hill park placed first with Plesic Bressler placing second individual events ribbons were awarded second place and certificates were For all the for first and awarded for first and second place in the team events The parks went to ABC East Lanes for a fun In total 64 kids participated in the day of exciting bowling day The next highlight of the summer was a trip to the Challenge Miniature Golf Center for an exciting day of mini golf and time in the game room In total 39 kids golfed The kids went to the Great Escape Theater in the Harrisburg Mall to Space see the movie Chimps Seventy three kids and park leaders enjoyed the movie Parks ventured to the Rainbow Hills Swim Club for a day of fun in the sun Seventy one kids and park leaders enjoyed the trip to the pool and the warm and sunny weather The last trip of the summer was to Little Buffalo State Park in Newport Forty four kids and seventeen park leaders made the trip Everyone had a fun time swimming and picnicking The Recreation Department also sponsored Bingo Bounce at the Annual National Night Out held on and Moon August 4 Around 70 people enjoyed many games of Bingo and 120 kids jumped and bounced in the Moon Bounce The winners of the games played that evening took home gift certificates from Swatara Township s many businesses The Parks and Recreation program had another successful year and thanks go outto all the park leaders who made the summer so successful Those leaders are Rachel Dietz and Antonio Stauffer at Bressler Tara Fach and Mitch Rudolph at Rutherford II Christopher Dunlap and Bethany Smith at Rutherford I Nina Bender Joelle Martin and Madeline Hanes at Lawnton Emma Wilson and James Bruno at Chambers Hill Bridget Stovall Melinda Paxtang A big thank you goes out to Dan Guerrisi and Adam Pupo for doing an excellent job heading up the Sports Dennis and Joe Miller at Department and Lindsey Alleman and Allison Barber for a job well done as the Township program A huge ourArts and Crafts supervisors Nick Straining thank you goes outto the recreation staff and to Brent Smith for
