Prefazione / Foreword
Il Parco del Delta del Po Emilia-Romagna possiede caratteristiche territoriali ed ecologiche che lo rendono unico:
una superficie di oltre 53.000 ettari, considerata tra le più produttive e ricche di biodiversità. Pur essendo tra le
Aree Protette più antropizzate ed economicamente sviluppate del paese, il Parco del Delta del Po dell’Emilia-Romagna
possiede infatti la maggiore estensione italiana di zone umide tutelate.
Un territorio capace di sorprendere con scorci inaspettati, e che può ancora stupire con i suoi colori, i suoi paesaggi
e la sua storia, meta di tantissimi appassionati di fotografia naturalistica che eleggono questi luoghi a protagonisti
di scatti emozionanti, spesso frutto di lunghi e pazienti appostamenti e sicuramente di un amore incondizionato per
la natura e tutte le sue forme.
È per noi un onore ospitare a Comacchio, “cuore” del Parco del Delta del Po, nell’ambito della VI edizione
Internazionale del Birdwatching e del Turismo naturalistico il Fotofestival ASFERICO, un appuntamento altamente
qualificato che va ad arricchire il programma delle iniziative dedicate alla fotografia naturalistica.
Un augurio a tutto lo staff di Asferico – AFNI e a tutti i visitatori di vivere tre giornate ricche di spunti per continuare
a nutrire la loro passione e allo stesso tempo cogliere l’occasione per conoscere questo straordinario territorio.
Emilia-Romagna Po Delta Park has territorial and ecologic features that make it unique in its sort: an over 53.000
hectares surface totally, considered among most productive and rich of biodiversity ones. Even if it is among the most
urbanized and economically developed Protected Areas of the Country, Emilia-Romagna Po Delta Park has the biggest
Italian extension of protected wetlands.
A territory that can surprise with unexpected views, and that can still astonish you with its colors, landscapes and
history, the destination of many fans of nature photography that choose these places playing starring roles in exciting
shots, often the result of long and patient stakeouts and definitely of an unconditional love for nature and all its
forms.
And we are delighted to host in Comacchio, “heart” of the Po Delta Park, during the sixth edition of the International
Po Delta Birdwatching Fair, the Fotofestival ASFERICO a highly qualified appointment that will enrich the program of
events dedicated to nature photography.
Best wishes to all the staff of Asferico - AFNI and all visitors to spend three days filled with ideas for continuing to
feed their passion and at the same time to take the opportunity to know this wonderful area.

Ghiacciaio Borebreen / Borebreen

Borebreen è un ghiacciaio lungo ben 22 chilometri che si trova nella parte occidentale di Isfjorden nell'Artico Norvegese.
Il nome deriva dalla parola greca Bores che significa "vento che proviene dal nord". Spesso accade che i venti nordici
gonfino le nuvole sopra il ghiacciaio, nascondendo le montagne e creando uno scenario di assoluto silenzio udibile solo
nell'Artico.
Borebreen is a 22-km-long glacier situated on the western side of Isfjorden in the Norwegian artic. The name of the
glacier comes from the Greek word Boreas, which means wind from the north. Sometimes the noth winds blow clouds over
the glacier, covering the mountains and creating a scene of absolute silence that can only be heard in the artic.

Nel gennaio del 2009 visitai la mia montagna preferita: il Kirkjufell, nella penisola di Snæfellsnes in Islanda. Durante una serata le nuvole si stavano
addensando, ma il cielo rimase luminoso per un tempo abbastanza sufficente per assistere al magnifico spettacolo dell'aurora boreale.
In January 2009 I visited my favorite mountain: Kirkjufell on the Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland. During the evening, clouds were gathering, but the
sky stayed clear long enough to witness a beautiful display of the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis.

Questo banco di pesci rappresenta la dieta del cormorano che si immerge cercando di catturarne qualcuno, attraverso
un frenetico inseguimento. A 20 metri di profondità cercai di catturare questa immagine in un momento critico dove ciò
che rappresenta la vita per qualcuno può significare la morte per altri.
Across a frantic pursuit, this shoal of life represents the diet of a cormorant that submerges like a bullet, trying to capture
some of these grunts (Haemulidae). At 20 meters of depth I could take this image of a critical moment where what is life
for somebody can represent the death for others.

Il pesce rana peloso è una specie singolare
soprattutto per la sua esca simile ad un verme
che muove continuamente. Grazie al suo perfetto
mimetismo non è facile trovarlo.
The hairy frogfish is a singulary interesting frogfish,
mainly because of its large and well visible wormlike lure which it likes to move a lot. Because of its
perfect camouflage, however, it is not very easy to
find.

I babbuini Gelada sono una specie endemica degli altopiani pietrosi dell'Etiopia. Dopo aver dormito sulle pareti rocciose, al sorgere del sole
tornano nelle praterie. Ho potuto fotografare questo maschio con i primi raggi di luce che mettevano in risalto la tipica chiazza rossa sul petto.
Gelada Baboons are an endemic species of the Ethiopian highlands. After sleeping on the cliffs, when the sun rises they return to grasslands.
I could photograph this male with the first rays of light bringing out the typical red mark on its chest.

Durante una delle tante escursioni invernali in alta montagna, precisamente in alta Valgrisanche, alla ricerca di belle immagini, mi sono imbattuto in
una volpe solitaria, che risaliva un crinale innevato, alla ricerca di cibo. L’ottima luce e la fedele e inseparabile Nikon, mi hanno permesso di “comporre”
diverse immagini, fra cui questa. Scattare immagini di wild life, specie nel nostro paese, è sempre emozionante.
During a winter trek high up in the mountains, into the high Valgrisanche, looking for nice pictures, I came upon a solitary fox that, walking on a little
snowy hill, was searching for something to eat. The beautiful light and my faithful Nikon allowed me to "compose" several pictures, including this one.
Taking wildlife pictures, especially in my country, is always exciting.

Ho atteso alcuni giorni prima che la nitticora si posasse nel punto della cascata idoneo alla composizione della foto
sulla diagonale e nello stesso momento che la luce del giorno mi permettesse un tempo di esposizione abbastanza lungo
per dare all'acqua l'effetto movimento che cercavo.
I waited several days for the night heron to perch on the point of the fall suitable to the composition of the photograph
on the diagonal and, at the same time, for the daylight to enable me to have enough time of exposure to obtain the
movement effect that I was looking for from the water.

Sotto quel lattiginoso cielo d'Aprile, ai miei occhi così denso da potersi tagliare, le sterne iniziarono le loro danze d'amore, in voli
sincronizzati ed imprevedibili. Cercai di fissare in una foto la loro dinamicità.
Under a milky sky, so dense you could almost slice it, the terns began their wedding dance, with synchronized, unpredictable
flights. I tried to capture their movements in a picture.

Le vipere sono da sempre temute ed ingiustamente perseguitate. Per mostrare il loro fascino ho immortalato “attraverso”
l'erba questo esemplare melanotico di aspide, intento a sondare l'ambiente con la sua rapida lingua biforcuta.
Vipers have always been victims of feared and persecuteds by humans. In order to show their beauty, I photographed
a melanotic specimen of asp viper "through" the grass, while it was inspecting the air with its swift forked tongue.

Ero sulla spiaggia delle isole Seychelles con altri fotografi del Team Foto Natura. Dal crepuscolo fino all'oscurità questi granchi fantasma escono dalla
loro tana e dominano le spiaggie isolate. Ho sincronizzato il flash sulla seconda tendina per dare più enfasi al loro nome; granchi fantasma.
As a member of Team Foto Natura, I was with the other photographers on a beach in the Seychelles Islands. From dusk till dawn these ghost-crabs
came out of their burrows and dominated the isolated beaches. I used a 2nd curtain flash to put emphasis on their name; ghost crab.

Nell’isola di Madeira in Portogallo esistono ancora macchie di vegetazione incontaminate come la foresta primitiva di
alloro Laurisilva. Questi siti dell’UNESCO fanno inoltre parte del Parco Naturale di Madeira. Queste “tis” (nome popolare
portoghese degli alberi di Ocotea puzzolente) sono endemiche della regione macaronesica e sono vecchie diverse
centinaia di anni
On the Portuguese island of Madeira, there are still pareas untouched by man, such as the primitive laurel forest of
Laurisilva. These UNESCO Natural World Heritage sites and are also part of the Madeira Natural Park. These "Tis" (Portuguese
vernacular name of the Ocotea foetens trees) are endemic to the Macaronesian region and are several hundred years
old.

Nell'autunno del 2011 tutte le foglie nella bellissima foresta Splenderbos erano cadute dagli alberi. Su un tronco a terra trovai questi funghi. Il cielo era nuvoloso
e così pensai di scattare questa foto dividendo a metà il fotogramma. È stato un po' difficile inquadrare i funghi con il mio obbiettivo macro, ma ci sono riuscito
posizionando il treppiede a livello del terreno.
In the autumn of 2011, in the beatiful Splenderbos forest all the leaves had fallen from the trees. Over a trunk on the ground I found these mushrooms. The sky was
cloudy so decided to take this picture by splitting the photogram. It was a little difficult to frame all the mushrooms with my macro lens, but I did it by placing my
tripod at ground level.

il passatempo di un mio amico è volare. Molte volte mi porta con se: le luci del tardo autunno erano semplicemente
bellissime, così le ho catturate. Ho scattato molte foto della foresta sottostante, ma lo stato d'animo che emerge da
quest'immagine la rende la mia preferita.
My friend's hobby is flying and he often takes me with him. The light of the late fall was just beautiful, so we took off. I took
many pictures of the forests below, but the mood of this picture was my favourite.

Tra i pulcinella (Fratercula artica) che volavano
e pescavano, vi era un gruppo che si stagliava
contro il sole. Uno di essi era in piedi di profilo nella
morbidezza della luce del tramonto. Ho voluto
fotografare questo uccello in particolare facendo
un'inquadratura stretta: il pulcinella sembrava
improvvisamente diventato un totem.
Among the puffins that were flying and fishing,
there was a group standing in profile against the
sunset. I wanted to photograph this one in particular,
playing with the light and taking a close-up: the
puffin seemed suddenly to become a totem.
