ABCO named Best Credit Union
by Burlington County Times
and SJ Biz Magazine
We are proud of being named Best Credit Union by the premier area newspaper and a
South Jersey business publication. Both awards were given as a direct result of members
voting for us in their respective polls. The Board and Staff would like to say “Thank You” for
taking the time to participate in the polls and for your vote of confidence. We pledge to
continue to offer you the best of both worlds—the best financial products at prices you can
afford and the service you deserve as a valued member.
ABCO Listed as One of Top 25 Area Credit Unions
The award by the Philadelphia Business Journal was based on growth of members and
services. ABCO was ranked 15th. Members who continue to use more of our services as well
as those who recommend ABCO to their family and friends helped us achieve the growth
needed to “make the list.”

ABCO Federal Credit Union Member Wins Big in
Savings Challenge!
Saving money always feels good, and for one ABCO FCU member
it was especially rewarding! Christian Ney, our Savings Challenge
grand prize winner, won $1,500 for realizing significant savings on his
monthly bills.
St. Ann’s Carnival
ABCO participated in St. Ann’s Carnival in Browns Mills in August. A
drawing was held for a $100 gift certificate and Elizabeth Kamikowski
was the lucky winner. A fun time was had by all!
Linda Narke, member;
Magnolia Luzano-Suarez,
MSR/Lending Officer; and
Maggie Ciarlante, Branch
Supervisor, greeted members
and the general public at the
ABCO booth.
Christian worked with ABCO Member Development Representative
Carla Holloway to refinance his auto loan, consolidate his credit cards
into one lower-interest personal loan and obtain a lower-cost car
insurance policy. When all was said and done, Christian saved over
$10,000 in interest charges and insurance fees.
Two runners-up in the Savings Challenge, Chara Carter-Ali and
Robert Carroll, each received $500.
“I love my credit union,” said Carter-Ali. “I tell everybody.”
Operation Backpack
This summer, ABCO Federal Credit Union and its members once again
pulled together to help South Jersey’s children start the school year
off right by contributing to the Center for Family Service’s Operation
Backpack. ABCO donated 100 backpacks while ABCO members
and employees contributed additional backpacks and hundreds of
notebooks, folders, pencils, binders and more.
Carla Holloway presents Christian Ney and his wife Joan
with a $1,500 check as the Grand Prize Winner.

over 100 pounds of food to the Twin Oaks Food Pantry in Mount
Holly, which serves more than 300 families a month.
Twin Oaks relies heavily on private donations to be able to offer this
service to hungry people in New Jersey. To learn more about how

Should You Buy Long-Term Care Insurance?
The longer you live, the greater the chances you’ll need some form of long-term
care. If you’re concerned about protecting your assets and maintaining your financial
independence in your later years, long-term care insurance (LTCI) may be for you.
Who Needs It?
Approximately 40 percent of Americans age 65 or older will need
long-term care at some point during their lives. (Source: The National
Clearinghouse for Long-Term Care Information, 2008.) And with life
expectancies increasing at a steady rate, this figure can be expected
to grow in the years to come.
have low income and few assets (eligibility guidelines vary from
state to state). You will have to use up most of your savings before
you qualify for Medicaid, and aside from a small personal needs
allowance (typically $30 to $60 a month), you will have to use all
of your retirement income, including Social Security and pension
payments, to pay for your care before Medicaid pays anything.
But Won’t the Government Look Out for Me?
Medicare pays nothing for nursing home care unless you’ve first
been in the hospital for three consecutive days. After that, it will pay
only if you enter a certified nursing home within 30 days of your
discharge from the hospital. For the first 20 days, Medicare pays 100
percent of your nursing home care costs. After that, you’ll pay about
$140.00 per day for your care through day 100 and Medicare will pick
up the balance. Beyond day 100 in a nursing home, you’re on your
own—Medicare doesn’t pay anything. (Source: medicare.gov)
Looking Out for Yourself
If you want to retain your
independence, protect your assets
and maintain your standard of
living while at the same time
guaranteeing your access to a
range of long-term care options,
you may want to purchase LTCI.
If you’re at home, Medicare provides minimal short-term coverage for
intermediate care, but only if you’re confined to your home and the
treatments are ordered by a doctor. Medicare provides nothing for
custodial care, such as help with feeding, bathing or preparing meals.
Several factors affect the cost of
your long-term care policy. The
most significant factors are your
age, your health, the amount of
benefit and the benefit period.
Medicaid covers long-term nursing home costs (including both
intermediate and custodial care costs) but only for individuals who
