Culture Our State, the most populated of the Mexican Republic, has a wide cultural variety merging 21st century modernity, colonial and pre-Hispanic Mexican traditions We have 13 venues serving as an artistic forum and promoting culture: 6 museums 4 cultural fora • Dr. Luis Mario Schneider University Museum • Centre for Cultural Activities (CeAC) • Leopoldo Flores University Museum • Casa de las Diligencias University Cultural Centre • Dr. Manuel M. Villada Natural History Museum • José María Morelos y Pavón University History Museum • Physics, Chemistry and Medicine Cabinets • Mariano Bárcena Meteorologic Observatory 1 gallery • Fernando Cano University Gallery • El Olvido Ranch • Cultural House in Tlalpan, Tlalpan Municipality Mexico City 2 theatres • Los Jaguares University Theatre • Esvón Gamaliel University Chamber Theatre Additionally, there are more than 2 000 artistic, cultural and academic support workshops for the university community, all society and vulnerable groups Plastic arts Practical knowledge for the creation of an art piece according to the kind of technique: ceramic sculpture workshop, photography, human figure drawing, natural drawing, oil painting, glass techniques, embossing, jewellery and precious-metal craftwork, wood carving, comic drawing and mixed techniques. In our museums and venues, you can see: • More than 350 temporary and itinerant exhibitions of cultural and scientific heritage, as well as artistic and cultural presentations. • Literary and music, dancing, and artistic performances, as well as painting, photography and sculpture exhibitions. Dance Polynesian, Spanish, Mexican folk, contemporary, classic, modern, Arabian and ballroom dancing, as well as jazz and latin rhythms. Music Violin, classical, popular and electric guitar, keyboard and piano, as well as courses for vocal technique and sol-fa. English Six month courses as part of the Institutional Program for English Teaching (PIEI), in order to obtain a Cambridge University English language certificate. Courses workshops for children Activities for children: Comic drawing, finding art, folkloric, classical Polynesian and Spanish dancing, oil painting and karate do Shito Ryu. Informatics Academic support Courses for informatics basics as well as Windows, Excel, Power Point, AutoCAD, Word, Publisher, Access, Corel Draw, Java, web page designing, PC, Coi and Flash, preventive maintenance and other courses under demand. We have a renowned University artistic staff including: Music: 92 132 groups of Dance: 12 Literature: 7 Theatre: 20 Cinema:1 22 solo artists Literature: 8 Music: 13 Theatre: 1 Theatre Company The University Theatre Company fosters sparkling and professionally made artistic and cultural activities, which given its high level and wide variety, has a high and growing demand within this institution and from those who understand that artistic performances are an essential and fulfilling way of entertainment and culture. In theatres, you can always find plays whose theatrical quality productions seek to promote Mexican cultural identity through traditions such as Pastorelas (Nativity Plays) such as La Cola del Diablo (The Devil´s Tail) and El Fandango de los Muertos (The Deads’ Fandango), which represents the tradition of the Day of the Dead, as well as different classic plays such as Noche de Epifania (The Twefth Night), Don Juan Tenorio (Don Juan) or Perdidos en Broadway (Lost in Broadway). University Symphonic Youth Orchestra It aims to foster classical music, choir and lyric arts, as well as instrumental instruction. Our orchestra is a mean of artistic development with a humanistic, inclusive and spreading focus in order to: • Promote a musical culture in the country and become a national and international leader in the musical industry. • Grow and spread music through its ensemble and productions. • Foster music teaching and practice. • Give and collaborate on musical shows in many areas. • Promote and spread musical compositions of Mexican authors. UAEMex traditional and cultural events • Cultural Sundays • Theatre Journeys: It’s worth to mention the annual performance of the play El Fandango de los Muertos, related to the typical Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead. • Film Series: CINECLUB, Ambulant and Performance Cinema • Annual UAEMex Choir and Chamber Orchestra Seasons • Lectures and Academos workshops Series • In order to foster culture, UAEMex organizes the Annual International Book Fair and April, a month for reading, in which writers, publishing houses and artists from all the branches collaborate together.
