THE SC HOSA IS WELL REPRESENTED
AT RIDGE VIEW
Mary Harmon, RVHS Work-based Learning
Coordinator and co-HOSA advisor is a member of
the South Carolina HOSA (Health Occupations
Students of America) Board. She has been a board
member for 6 years. HOSA is a professional
student organization for students interested in the
Health Science field. Diane Melton, RVHS Health
Science teacher is the HOSA Advisor. She and her
students have won national medals for the past 5
years, allowing Ridge View to be the only South
Carolina High School such a record. Ms. Melton
was also designated SC Advisor of the Year for
2011.
Ridge View HOSA will have their first HOSA
meeting on November 2nd in Room M-118 during
lunch.
The HOSA officers (pictured above)
attended a Fall Leadership opportunity at Newberry
College on Oct. 18th.
As motorists travel near Richland Two High Schools
around lunch time, they should notice school zone safety
lights flashing. The lights have been turned on to increase
safety. Some students leave campus to purchase lunch at
nearby restaurants, increasing traffic in these areas.
Motorists are encouraged to always exercise caution and
patience when travelling in and around school zones at all
times on school days. This is particularly important when
students are arriving at and leaving school. High school
lunch breaks span from 11:55 AM to 1:27 PM. Individual
school lunch times are as follows:
Ridge View High School
12:22 – 1:27 PM
Blythewood and Richland Northeast High
11:55 AM – 12:25 PM
Spring Valley High School
12:16 – 12:51 PM
Westwood High School
12:21 – 1:03 PM
THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS IN HELPING US TO KEEP
OUR STUDENTS SAFE BY WATCHING FOR THE LIGHTS.

Academics
Teen Read Week
This week’s book winner is What
Happened to Goodbye by Sarah
Dessen. This title received the
most votes of the 10 top teen
titles.
Tracy Skinner's and Susanne
Liggett's English IV classes have
been working on their Middle
Ages
Social
Media
Characterization Projects. Based
on Chaucer's The Canterbury
Tales, the students created "social
media sites" reflecting the
attributes of their chosen character.
While some students chose to use
technology to present their project,
others
went
"old
school,"
presenting their project on poster
boards.
"Get Smart @ the Library”
Winners
Brianna Austin
Grayson Hensley
Brittany Morrison
A THANK YOU FROM RICE CREEK
I wanted to let you know the students working in the library are doing
a wonderful job. They have been learning several skills, but the most
valuable one has been working at the check-in/out computers so we
can help the students find books, answer questions, teach class and
work on special projects. They are:
Michael Trammell
Makaela Tobin
Michelle Miranda
Jennie Huynh
We are able to accomplish so much with their help. Having them has
really improved the quality of service we can provide Rice Creek
students!
