RELIGIOUS SCHOOL TEFILLAH SERVICE
Our Rabbis understood and expressed it
in the liturgical texts that they wrote. Certainly the Seder experience begins with
celebrating springtime and then moves to a
celebration of freedom. It may very well be
that since that first day ofNisan back in
antiquity our Rabbinic tradition of a creative,
dynamic and compelling approach to life
through Jewish values and ideals began and
grew to what it is today.
11 :00 A.M.
9:30 A.M.
11 :15 A.M.
And today, I am sitting in a seat at the
Hebrew Union College celebrating twentyfive years of serving as a Rabbi. It is an
extraordinary day, filled with all kinds of
overwhelming emotions. Twenty-five years
as a Rabbi and as I sit I think, not about the
past, but about the future. In two months our
daughter Ellie will start her career as a Rabbi.
And-she,-too, will be connected to that first
day of Spring and Freedom, committed to the
same eternal values that were given to me.
Yes, it is the first day ofNisan. And
today we celebrate the continued heritage of
our ancestors, again and again and again.

Officer's Column
Sometimes I can't believe that two years have
flown by already and at other times I ask myself if
it's only been two years. We have a very busy
Temple, so much occurs in a given week. .. from
those events that are planned to the surprises that
arise. At all times it is a challenge, a welcome one.
It has been an honor for me to serve our
congregation as your President. I want to thank you
for the opportunity for me to grow personally as I
have dealt with so many issues during my tenure. I
have developed close and closer relationships with
many ofyou and have met so many congregants I
would not have had the opportunity to meet. I have
shared in your joys and sorrows, your celebrations
of life. It truly is a blessing to connect with so many
people in so many ways. It has been a blessing for
me to serve as your leader and representative. Our
Temple has, and will continue to be, a focal point in
my life. Over the years it has helped to mold who I
am.
Without looking back and giving a repast of
these two years, it is on a happy note that my
Presidency is culminating with the start of our l40 th
Anniversary Celebration. For those of you who
know me well, you know my motto has ee· to

from your families, for your support and devotion to
our Temple, you make things happen here. I also

Gan News
March was an absolutely fabulous month. We all
enjoyed our visit from the hygienist. The children learned
quite a bit about good dental care, and what can be a
better incentive to brush our teeth than a brand new
toothbrush.
Our gymnastics program comes to an end this month.
Hopefully there won't be too many "April showers" and
we will be able to spend a lot of time outdoors. Much of
March was focused on Passover. The children learned all
about Moses, Pharaoh, matzah, seders, maror, charoset,
parsley and the Haggadah. Our model Seder for the
children was very enjoyable. The children prepared many
of the food items and we were able to use the parsley
which we planted for Tu B'Shevat for our Seder plate. The
children learned the Four Questions and everyone was
very proud of them. Each year they do a beautiful job.
They really love the Passover songs and continue to sing
them for months afterwards! We will be making matzah
brei and rnatzah meal pancakes for Passover snacks.
Presently, there are two exciting programs lined up for
April. The fITst program will be on the topic of nutrition.
The second one is entitled " Catch the Blue Wave" and will
teach us about the importance of recycling. We will have
anomc::; r~cycljT)g oro~am in May to further reinforce our
knowledge of this topic.
