order to renew the
appeal of the sector
and strengthen the
sources of income
Work for the
development of
diversification
providing support both
on the technical and
normative aspects
Why READY Med Fish?
A generalized social and economic crisis involving small-scale
fisheries is spreading throughoutthe Mediterranean sea basin
Loss of income at
household level
Loss of interest in investing in
the sector
No generational
turnover
Loss of social value
within coastal
communities
Increase of unsustainable
practices
Loss of cultural heritage
Need to directly support the operators and review
policies and strategies at Mediterranean level
Our proposal: from fisherman to
entrepreneur
Ittiturism
o
…to the multi-functional enterprise

What does multi-functionality mean?
Consider the potentiality of the
territory
Enhance the socioeconomic
condition of the
household and of
the whole
community
Multi-functionality refers to the
capacity of fishermen to provide useful
services other than the one strictly
related to primary production.
Invest in know-how, requilify and
diversify the primary production
with a new integrative activity
Diversifing should never mean
abandoning fisheries
Identify new
economic
activities to
undertake
How do we support the path towards
diversification?
2. TRAINING for
young operators,
fisheries
associations and
public
administrations
1. Geographic
and economic
identification of
local needs and
constraints
3. Review of the
Mediterranean,
national and
local normative
on fisheries and
diversification
4. Establishment
of a network of
Info and
Assistance desks,
and a Virtual
Platform
In order to overcome all the economic, social, technical and normative
constraints that are currently preventing a full development and spread of the
concept of multi-functionality READY MED FISH has worked on 4 main pillars
READY MED FISH OBJECTIVES
Identification
Normative
Training
Networking
Specific Objectives
•

success stories)
Project strategy and results
3. Normative
Review of the national legislative frameworks and elaboration
of normative proposals at local, regional and national level.
4. Networking
- Promotion of the diversification path as a successful integrative activity
through the institution of a network of Info and Assistance Desks (IADs)
active in the PAs of the countries involved in the project, to give support to
fisheries operators after the conclusion of the project. (Technical,
normative, administrative and business support, for starting up new
activities).
- Creation of a virtual platform to promote diversification, support start-ups
and connect all the active IADs online.
