A Love Like No Other
For many, February represents love - romantic love or family and friendship love. Valentine’s Day is a
celebration of all different kinds of love. At the Mission, we celebrate a love like no other, God’s love. In John
4:19, the Bible says, “We love because he first loved us.” Everything done at the Mission is a result of God’s
love at work. From staff members to volunteers, our actions at the Mission come from God’s love because
He loved us first. Read below and find out how God’s love has impacted Carolyn Chandler, Volunteer
Coordinator; Nicki Ludlum, volunteer; and John Walsh, resident of the Changed Life Recovery Program.
CAROLYN CHANDLER
Growing up in a legalistic church and a dysfunctional family, Carolyn Chandler’s earliest idea of love was
that it was about meeting expectations. This made her believe that love was elusive and fickle for a good
part of her life. Many years ago, she attended a church that taught her about the God of grace and mercy
that loved her unconditionally. This was the beginning of a 29-year journey that the Lord would guide
her on to teach her what love really is. Carolyn says, “He showed me through friends, trials, failures, and
constant forgiveness that love could not be bought or earned! The Lord faithfully disciplined me because
He loves me. In my journey, I came to believe that God is good even when I don’t understand what He is
doing! The Lord has won my heart because all He wanted was my heart.”
NICKI LUDLUM
Over five years ago, Nicki Ludlum started volunteering at the Mission as a volunteer receptionist. Nicki
committed her life to God when she was 23. When she came to the Mission, she had a strong relationship
with God, but through her time here, she has seen God’s love at work. His love has been evident through
the prayers Nicki has seen answered here and the miracles witnessed. Not only can she see God’s love
for His people through prayers being answered but also in how the residents have changed their lives
and succeeded while trusting God. We are thankful for Nicki’s service and for her husband Andy who
volunteers at the Mission as well. It has been a blessing for Nicki and her husband to see how God’s love
can truly transform the lives of so many.
JOHN WALSH
God’s love has the power to impact people very differently. For John Walsh, God’s love was the missing
component in his life. After 31 years of struggling to be sober, John decided to turn over everything to
God. Instead of turning to drinking to deal with emotional issues, John chose to seek God. He says, “Prayer
has become vital to everyday and has strengthened my love (for) and relationship with Christ.” Through
his relationship with God, John has been challenged to put others before himself and to trust where God
is leading him. Recently, John spoke to his daughter for the first time in 8 months and he believes that he
owes everything to God. “I can feel his real love everyday,” says John.

The Mission would like to
welcome Jake Sexton to the
team as the new Case Manager
of the Changed Life Recovery
Program. Prior to this position,
Jake, a graduate of the CLRP,
had taken on leadership roles
including leading Bible classes
for residents, driving residents
to and from appointments, and
teaching classes on faith from
the book Believe. Originally from
Clarksburg, MD, Jake graduated
from Clarksburg High School and
he is currently pursuing classes
at Frederick Community College.
For Jake, the Mission introduced
him to having a relationship
with Jesus and he says it is “the
most important thing I’ve ever
received.” We are excited to have
Jake on staff and look forward to
seeing what God has in store for
him!

MAY 20TH, 2016: 47TH ANNUAL FUNDRAISING BANQUET
Join the Mission in May as we celebrate over 50 years of service in the Frederick
Community! The 2016 Fundraising Banquet will be a wonderful night for
supporters to fellowship, reflect on past achievements, and take part in the
Mission’s vision for years to come. The evening will begin with a silent auction and
hors d’oeuvres followed by a dinner and program. Tickets are $75 per guest, $150
per couple, or $600 for a table. Mark your calendars; more information will be
provided in upcoming newsletters.
JAKE SEXTON

served in the Montgomery Count
Police Department for over 27
years. He believes that working
with the men in the program has
given him a more compassionate
perspective. Each man in the
CLRP has a story and Doug has
seen the hard work they put
into changing their lives. Over
the past two years, Doug has
seen God working in people
firsthand and he says that it has
been a privilege. Following his
time at the Mission, Doug will be
traveling to OneLife Africa located
in the Mathare Valley in Nairobi,
Kenya. Doug has been working
with this organization for the
past few years, which provides
educational opportunities for high
school students and equips them
with leadership and discipleship
skills. He has also been involved
in Waterboyz for Jesus, a local
men’s ministry, for over six years
and will continue to support
that ministry. We are grateful for
Doug’s time at the Mission and
will keep him in our prayers. We
ask that you keep him in your
prayers as well.
