Dear Parents,
On Monday and Tuesday all teachers and education
assistants attended the 2010 Primary Curriculum
Conference at the Perth Convention and Exhibition
Centre.
The Monday’s keynote speaker was Vic Zbar who spoke
on ‘How our best performing schools came out on top.’
He also spoke on getting the pre-conditions for school
improvement in place. Fundamental to continued school
improvement is to develop a strong, united and cohesive
leadership team, consisting not just of the administration
team but of key teacher leaders. Two aspects of goal
setting were particularly useful. The first was to set

The second goal setting mantra was TINA:

There were 86 different sessions offered over the very full
programme. Some of these related to the coming
Australian Curriculum whilst other were about specific
topics such as Guided Reading, 3D Mind Maps, Chance
and Data, Visual Literacy, Bring Back the Fun, Classroom
Emotional Climate and Is paper folding mind bending or
building? This last one certainly didn’t increase my self
esteem!

CATHOLIC SCHOOL FUNDING AT THIS
FEDERAL ELECTION
You would be aware from recent newsletters that the
National Catholic Education Commission has been very
proactive informing parents of the importance of the
Federal government’s impending review of school
funding. This review has the potential to significantly
influence future levels of funding for Catholic Schools.
I believe it would be most inappropriate for me to
suggest to parents how they should vote in the
forthcoming elections.
However, as parents
endeavouring to provide a Catholic education for your
children, I believe you should be aware of the funding
policies of the major parties, all of which have the
potential to shape future funding levels of Catholic
Schools. There are many important issues in the
election but this issue has the potential to significantly
and directly affect the families in our school community.
In short, the party’s stances are as follows:
Australian Labor Party
To extend the current funding arrangements with
indexation until 2013, and future arrangements beyond
that be determined following the findings of the
independent review in 2011.
Liberal Party/Coalition
To continue current funding arrangement to Catholic
Schools and systems in real terms from 2013 onwards.
Australian Greens
To end present Commonwealth funding arrangement
for recurrent funding by the end of 2010, and return
funding levels to Catholic schools to 2003/2004 levels.
This would result in an immediate reduction of
$427 million per year to the Catholic education
system.

Floods 2010
We pray for and remember the 1,600 people in Pakistan
who have lost their lives in the recent floods and for
their families and friends who continue to mourn their
loss.
Lord hear us.
We pray for the 14 million people whose homes,
bridges, schools, water facilities and farmland have
been destroyed by the floods. May they receive the
practical support and assistance to rebuild their lives,
families and communities.
Lord hear us.
We pray for all the people who are providing life-saving
emergency aid and assistance to those in need. May
their commitment be strengthened as they witness the
courage and compassion of those they serve.
Lord hear us.
We pray for the people who have been evacuated in the
knowledge that the flood waters and heavy rains are
approaching. May they find safety and support in their
place of refuge.
Lord hear us.
We pray for ourselves, that we may be strengthened in
solidarity with those in
Pakistan. May we
continue to provide
generous prayerful and
practical support for the
people of Pakistan as they
begin to rebuild their
lives and communities.

DAFFODIL ORDERS
Daffodil Day merchandise is being sold
before school, at lunch time and after
school from 4W and the school office. All
daffodil orders are due before Monday
23rd August to ensure you receive your flowers on
Friday 27th August.
UNIFORM SHOP NEWS
A BIG thank you to Daryl and Grace Cook for
donating and installing a large mirror in the Uniform
Shop.

COMPETITION RESULTS
Padbury Catholic had 54 children enter the Spelling
Competition this year! They all did their best.

BUY MY DUCK COMPETITION
RUNNERS UP
As mentioned earlier in the term the Year 6 Extension
students produced animations for this Consumer Ed
Competition. The entries were of such a high standard in
the Year 6-7 category that the competition organisers
decided, for the first time in 5 years, to recognise the 3
Runners Up with a Highly Commendable Certificate and a
cheque for $20 each. Padbury Catholic students were
awarded these prizes! Congratulations to Amy George,
Ciara McGinley and Jorja Artaud - a brilliant job!

New Altar Servers
Children who have just received the Sacrament of Holy
Communion are now eligible to be altar servers. Father
Joseph will have a training day this Saturday 21st August
from 10—12pm at the church followed by lunch at
McDonalds. Existing altar servers who would like to assist
Father Joseph in this training session are very welcome.
Parish Dinner Dance & Fr Joe’s 40th Birthday: Friday
12th November at Hillary’s Yacht Club. Tickets on sale late

Our Lady's Birthday Mass: Please join us to celebrate
Our Lady’s Birthday on Saturday, 4th September at Our
Lady of the Mission Catholic Church, 270 Camberwarra

Communion Thanks: Special thanks to the members of the
choir who sang so beautifully at Sunday’s First Holy Communion Mass. Your voices were exceptional. Thanks to Mrs
Lopez and Mrs Cusack for their guidance. Mr De Luca and
our three altar servers gave generously of their time too. Mrs
Cable worked her usual magic on the computer also. Thanks
to all staff for their attendance and help. We are blessed to

3 YEAR OLD PRE-KINDY PROGRAMME
Whitford Catholic Primary School is currently
running a Three Year Old/Pre-Kindergarten
Programme. Parents wishing to enrol their children
in this programme for 2011 are asked to advise the
school before the end of 3rd Term. Children need to
have attained the age of three to qualify for
enrolment. Enrolment forms are available on our
