Mothers’ Day Stall
Many thanks to the members of our PFA for their amazing
efforts to ensure a wonderful shopping experience for our
students at the Mothers’ Day stall today. The concentration
and thought that many
of our students put
into making their purchases is a delight to
watch. A huge thank
you also to Lizzy Price
and Diana Shone at
Inverloch Books and
Massage for sourcing
the gifts for us. A huge
job!
Year 3 camp
In next weeks newsletter you will find reports from our Year
3 students regarding the fabulous time they had on camp last
week. From my point of view, it was an absolute joy to receive an email from the camp staff congratulating our students, staff and parents who attended, on the wonderful
time they had because our students behaved so beautifully.
They commented that it was a real pleasure to have our
school attend their camp, they could relax and enjoy the experience because our students were polite, helpful, and keen
to participate in everything on offer. Well done to you all!
Grandparents and Special Friends day
This special day will be held on Monday May 18th from
10.30, commencing with morning tea in the Stadium. All
families are asked to contribute a small plate of morning
tea. Morning tea will be combined with our celebration of
Australia's Biggest Morning tea to raise funds for cancer
research, and we will be asking those attending for a gold
coin donation. The morning tea is for visitors only, not for
our students.
Our visitors will then be invited to join their special young
people in the class rooms until lunchtime. Our visitors are
asked to bring a picnic lunch so that they can also join us
over lunchtime
Food Bank
An initiative of our PFA last year was the formation of a
food bank at the school to have on hand some meals for
families who may need some help with a meal, for instance
if they have had a family illness or unexpected event. The
meals were gratefully received by a number of our families.
However all the meals have now been used and I would
like to put out a call for some more to keep in our freezer.
If you are able to perhaps make a double quantity of a casserole or a couple of extra serves of lasagne it would be
appreciated. Meals need to be in containers that you don't
need back eg clean ice cream or take away food containers,
and be labelled with a list of ingredients. Thank you for
your support.
Winter Sport
Our Year 5 and 6 students are participating in winter sport
activities against neighbouring school over the coming
weeks each Friday. Sometimes the schools come to us, other times we visit other schools. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to try a sport they may not otherwise
participate in, and to meet and make new friends from other schools. A reminder that Year 5 and 6 students will
not be able to have lunch orders on these days.
Murray St
A reminder that we strongly discourage any cars coming in
to the Murray St area to pick up and drop off students. This
is a very narrow roadway and a popular pedestrian access
route to our school for our children. The carpark in Murray
St is for residents and staff use only. Cars need to park and
drop off in William St to avoid congestion and potential
dangerous incidents. Our Bike riders are also asked to only
use the Bike Shed entrance on Bayview Ave, not Murray St.
Caring and sharing
Unfortunately as our students work closely with
each other, and now with the bad weather are more
often inside, they do not only share friendship, pencils and knowledge. Those nasty winter bugs are
now upon us with gastro, headlice and school sores
doing the rounds. Gastro and school sores are highly
contagious. If your child has been vomiting they
need to stay at home for at least 24 hours, and I
have been told by some doctors preferably 72 hours
(3 days). School sores begin as small pimple type
sores and can be mistaken for cold sores. They get
very messy and weepy and get larger rather than
going away. It is necessary to see a doctor for treatment for these. Please also continue to check your
children's hair for headlice, autumn and spring seem
to be their favourite times of the year. All eggs need
to be removed, not just treated with lotion, to ensure they are gone. It appears that no one treatment is 100% effective so vigilance is the key.
Oral History Project
We have been fortunate to have 11 Year 5 and 6
students offered the opportunity to participate in
an oral history project under the guidance of Kim
Senior from Deakin University and Michael Green
from Drift Media. The seeds for this project began
approximately four years ago when Kim and another researcher Lea asked to interview our student for their research related to the History curriculum at the time. The students involved will be
working with their Grandparents to create a short
movie and are learning interview techniques, the
art of story telling and the technology involved in
using iPads and a variety of movie making apps to
enable them to visually record their work. The students are working with Kim and Michael over three
days during these two weeks, and will then interview their Grandparents on our Special visitors day
on May 18. We look forward to viewing their finished products!
BRAIN TEASER… This week we are adding a Brain Teaser to our
Newsletter. Once you have worked out the answer please tell
Mrs King or Mrs McRae. Can you work this out?
What is unusual about the following words: revive,
banana, grammar, voodoo, assess, potato, dresser,
uneven?
School Nurse Visit for
Prep students
All of the Prep students would have taken
home an envelope yesterday regarding the
primary school nursing program. Every
year the Department of Education and Early
Childhood Development sends out a school
nurse to check and assess students hearing,
eyesight etc. We ask that you return your
completed paperwork in the envelope to
your class teacher or the office as soon as
possible. All envelopes need to be returned
no later than the 15th May. This is a free
service.

Sustainability Day
– Thursday May 21st
We are very privileged to have the Surfrider Foundation quiz
tour visiting our school on Thursday May 21 st. Students in Years
3-6 will be involved in an interactive sustainable workshop run
by the tour group and take part in a quiz. The school has decided
to embrace this opportunity and will be running a whole school
Sustainability Day. Students from Prep – 6 will be placed in
multi-age groups and rotate through hands-on and engaging
activities that explore our environment and sustainable practices.
To support this day students need to wear something green and
please bring a gold coin donation to help support the Australian
wide Surfrider Foundation quiz tour.
Thanks for your support and we are looking forward to an engaging, educational, environmental day.

Ten thousand Dollar Grant
We are very excited to announce that Inverloch Primary
School has been successful in receiving a $10,000 energy
efficiency grant from Resource Smart. This money is to be
used to reduce our energy costs around the school and
hopefully in the long term provide us with a more sustainable school and minimise our costing in this area.
A reminder that Tuesdays is NUDE FOOD days. Please
ensure your child has their name labelled on all containers.
Hi I’m Diana and I’m running music lessons and
band at your school.
Lessons are on Mondays and students are learning flute, clarinet, sax, trumpet, trombone, bass
guitar and drums. Band has commenced and is
held at 8am Monday mornings. We are having
lots of fun with our music already and students
will be performing at Monday assemblies from
next week on so keep an eye out for them. A
concert is being planned for early next term and
an information evening will also be held soon for
any interested recruits.
I have a small number of used instruments available for hire/buy at very low rates if children want
to try an instrument for a term. Also coming up
for sale a used alto sax, good condition.
Please contact me Diana Reardon on 0427 550
895 or [email protected] for further info
on lessons, band or instruments.
In the meantime happy music making!

Just a reminder Sushi Rolls are only available on Monday and are $3 each. No drinks
are available for purchase on Sushi days.
MOWING
Don’t forget to listen to our local radio station
every Saturday from 5pm-6pm to hear our
grade 6 students stories, the work they have
been doing, music and some interesting interviews.
A huge thank you to all of our volunteers
who have mowed this year. The front of the
school has looked fantastic all year, as had
the Edgar St nature strip.
Please let the office know if you are able to
mow. Thanks again….

Missing Clothing
We have had a few reports of
children losing clothing that is
clearly labelled . Please check
your children's clothing and if
you find anything that belongs to
another student please return it
to school asap.
Don’t forget to label any new
items of clothing that you buy.
Once again the lost property tub
is overflowing. Please check it if
you are missing anything.
More on Parking
Just a reminder that parking in the V-Line
bus stop outside the police station is not
allowed. The V-Line bus is due to arrive at
around pick up time and the driver gets
very upset if he can’t pull up at the bus
stop!
MISSING...SPORTS TOPS AND JACKETS.
Our school seems to be missing quite a few sports tops and
jackets. With our Winter Sports upon us we need to locate the
missing items. If you find our clothing please return it ASAP.
Also if you are involved in the Winter sports days please wash
and return your borrowed clothing to your House Captain as
soon as you can.
