The American Institute of Architects Long Island Chapter Thanks all of the Archi Entrants, Award Sponsors, Patrons, Contributors, Supporters and Attendees, Without whom this event would not be possible. 2015 AIA/LIC Archi Awards President’s Message The days are getting shorter and cooler - - that must mean one thing - - the AIA/LIC 51st Annual Archi Awards must be around the corner. Over the last several months the Archi Awards Committee has been hard at work making final arrangements for this annual event. I want to thank Anthony DiProperzio, Joseph Chearmonte and Mark Kruse for their assistance and continued support with this event. I also extend my thanks to AIA/LIC board member Douglas Casper for his assistance with the jury process. As always, a very special thanks goes to Ann LoMonte, our Executive Director, for making this evening’s event a great success. This year’s jury process was held at the Long Island Chapter’s Mineola office. Four jurists were selected by the committee to determine this year’s Archi Award winners. They are as follows: Gino O. Longo, RA, AIA Gino O. Longo, Architect AIA Queens President 2013-14 Howard Graf, RA, AIA Graf & Lewent Architects AIA Queens President 1991-92; AIA New York State President 1996 Augusto Morpurgo, RA, PP, NCARB Morpurgo Architects Rene R. Mueller, RA, AIA, NCARB, HTL, LEED AP Rene R. Mueller, RA – Architect/Planner The Jury review committee met on Friday, October 2nd with final results to be announced tonight. This year the jurists spent the day (approximately 8 hours) meticulously evaluating the 75 entries received by the AIA Long Island Chapter. By day’s end, the always difficult decisions were made and award recipients were selected by the jurists for the various award categories. I hope everyone has a pleasant and enjoyable evening. The Archi Award Committee, along with the Board of Directors would like to thank the Jurists for their commitment and time. The Committee also thanks the chapter Architect Members, Associate Members, Professional Affiliate Members and sponsors for their continued support and participation in all our chapter events. Best Wishes, Joseph Iannucci, AIA 2015 LIC President 2015 AIA/LIC Archi Awards Chairman of Archi Committee Statement On behalf of the officers, directors, members and staff of the Long Island AIA it is my pleasure to welcome you to our 51st annual Archi Awards. What a great testament to our Chapter in conducting this extremely successful event over such a long period of time to recognize and honor those architects who have distinguished themselves by creating quality architectural works. As you can imagine, organizing such an event requires a group effort and dedication to volunteer the enormous amount of time and energy that goes into the planning. I would like to thank the members of our Committee Joseph Iannucci, AIA; Joseph J. Chearmonte, AIA; Mark Kruse, AIA, Douglas C. Casper, AIA; Ann LoMonte, Hon. AIA; and Ms. Michele Battisti. Our Committee began working on the Archi Awards in March and worked continuously to analyze our past events and venues and discuss modifications as necessary to insure a successful event for 2015. The Committee’s diligence resulted in an expansion of the award categories in order to create greater opportunity to our small firm members, as well as moving the event to the North Hills Country Club. The expanded categories resulted in a total of 75 submissions and I am certain that everyone will be happy with the new venue. I would also like to thank our jury members who served in reviewing the 75 submissions. The jury members were Howard Graf, AIA; Gino Longo, AIA; Augusto Morpurgo, RA; and Rene Mueller, AIA. These gentlemen were gracious enough to volunteer an entire day in the Chapter office meticulously reviewing and grading each submission. The work is extremely tedious and we sincerely appreciate their dedication and hard work. A special thanks to Enterprise Lighting Sales, Green Logic Energy, PGI Corp., and PSEG Long Island for their sponsorship of the Special Awards. Finally I would like to thank everyone for attending at tonight’s event. Your participation and support makes the time and effort well spent. Enjoy the evening. Sincerely, Anthony DiProperzio, AIA THE “ARCHI” STATUETTE The “Archi” was designed specifically for the 1970 Annual Long Island Association Architectural Awards Program. The name was taken from the Greek word Architekton, which means “Chief or Master Builder”. The award is 13” tall, and incorporates a T-square, an arch and a three-sided face representing the past, present, and future. HISTORY AND PURPOSE OF THE ARCHI AWARDS Every year since 1964, the Long Island Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has celebrated outstanding architectural achievement through the annual Archi Awards Program. The purpose of the Archi Awards Program is to provide professional and public recognition of architectural projects of design excellence. The awards recognize projects conceived and built on Long Island as well as projects designed by Long Island architects, built or planned to be built elsewhere. Since its creation by the Long Island Association of Commerce and Industry, followed by the involvement of the AIA Long Island Chapter, the Archi Awards Program has gained prominence as the Long Island community has begun to recognize and understand the impact of quality architecture on the built environment. To date, over 800 projects have received awards and recognition for design excellence. Each entry is judged on the success of the design solution presented and not in competition with other entries. Today, the Archi Awards Program is a major event in the Long Island design community which raises awareness of the importance of quality architectural design to Long Island as a whole.
