April 17, 2016 - Fourth Sunday of Easter
Eastertide greetings and prayers dear brothers and sisters in
Christ. Welcome to the Fourth Sunday of Easter. In this
Season of Easter, let us continue to praise our Lord and
Savior as we keep alive the Easter message of the Risen
Christ.
The Fourth Sunday of Easter is also known as Good
Shepherd Sunday and World Day of Prayer for Vocations. At
this time we reflect on Jesus as the Good Shepherd who cares
for His flock; who watches over us; who leads us; who guides
us; who comforts us; who provides for our every need, and
loves us beyond measure. Let us each take some time to
reflect on this and contemplate what we have done and what
we will do going forward in gratitude to our Lord for His
goodness, love and mercy.
Today’s Psalmist reminds us that “we are His people, the
sheep of His flock”. Let us do all that we can to bring ourselves
closer to the Good Shepherd. Pray. Read His Word every day
- reading just a small section of Scripture each day helps bring
us closer to Him and shows us the way to go. Through Him
and His Word we learn what is most essential and most
important in our lives. Let us discern and follow that path.
This year marks the 53rd Anniversary of
World Day of Prayer for Vocations. From the Office of Vocations we read:
“The purpose of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations is to publically fulfill the Lord’s
instruction to, ‘Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest’ (Mt 9:38;
Lk 10:2). As a climax to a prayer that is continually offered throughout the Church, it
affirms the primacy of faith and grace in all that concerns vocations to the priesthood
and to the consecrated life. While appreciating all vocations, the Church concentrates its
attention this day on vocations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the
Religious life in all its forms (male and female, contemplative and apostolic), to societies of
apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the
missionary life, in the particular sense of mission ‘ad gentes’.”
As followers of the Good Shepherd, we each have a responsibility to reflect Jesus the Good Shepherd to
one another - to those inside and outside our parish. Each has a special calling, vocation, and shepherding
role. What is yours? Let us listen to the Good Shepherd and open ourselves to His calling for our own
particular personality - it is not the same for everyone - each has different gifts and a different call. Take
time to pause and reflect on yours.
We are all called to live our lives for Christ who gave His life for us. Hear the voice of the Good Shepherd in
all that you do. He is our Savior who answers in our times of need. Listen closely, and when He calls, obey.
Go where He leads you. Do the will of the Father – the Good Shepherd – and know that you will not be let
down. He will guide you. He is at your side always. Listen to His call for your life and let us pray especially
for our young that they will find God’s purpose for their lives as they discern His call for their future.
Wishing you a week filled with God, His love and mercy.
~ Father Paul

Prayer for Vocations
Oración por Vocaciones
God our Father, we thank you for calling men
and women to serve in your Son’s Kingdom as
priests, deacons, and consecrated persons.
Padre Nuestro, te damos gracias por llamar a hombres
y mujeres a servir en el Reino de tu Hijo como
sacerdotes, diáconos y personas consagradas.
Send your Holy Spirit to help others to respond
generously and courageously to your call.
Manda tu Santo Espíritu para ayudar a que otros
respondan con generosidad y valentía a tu llamado.
May our community of faith support vocations of
sacrificial love in our youth and young adults.
Que nuestra comunidad de fe apoye las vocaciones de
amor sacrificial en nuestros jóvenes y jóvenes adultos.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and
reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Por nuestro Señor Jesucristo quien vive y reina contigo
en la unidad del Espíritu Santo, un solo Dios, por los
siglos de los siglos. Amen.

Get Wisdom!
When Solomon succeeded his father, David, as king of
Israel, God made him an extraordinary offer. Anything
Solomon requested—wealth, long life, and wisdom—
God would grant him. Solomon chose wisdom, the
ability to make wise choices in leading God’s people.
God was so pleased by Solomon’s choice that he gave
him untold riches and fame as well.
The reasons Solomon’s story still matters is that we
face the same choice today, albeit in less dramatic
circumstances. Almost everyone has the option of
pursuing wealth, long life or wisdom, not to mention
fame, comfort, entertainment, security, peace of mind
and respect.
And strong cases can be made for each option. Yet as
Solomon advises from the pages of the Old Testament,
wisdom is still the best bet. Wisdom allows us to apply
what we know in ways that benefit us and other people
(and not necessarily in that order). Wisdom helps us
understand and apply Scripture. Wisdom allows us to
use our God-given gifts in extraordinary ways.
Solomon discovered that God rewards the pursuit of
wisdom. He may not lavish those seeking wisdom with
wealth and fame, as he did Solomon, but he will allow
them to experience such intangible perks as peace of
mind, security, and respect. Read more about the
wisdom of Solomon in Chapter 3 of 1 Kings.

Good Samaritan Project: Middle School and High School Retreat
“The Good Samaritan Project” is a service program and a retreat, specifically designed for
middle and high school students. It focuses on helping the Church’s Youth to recognize their
role within the community while demonstrating the impact of Catholic Social Justice in their
lives. During the week we participate in a variety of Service Experiences, Daily Mass,
Reconciliation and Adoration. We are excited about our Good Samaritan Project this summer:
July 10-16, 2016 at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School. It is open to all students entering grades 7 through 12
and both our High School and Middle School programs will start on the same day (July 10th). We are blessed to be able
to decrease the registration fee for the second year in a row. Our new price is $195 for teens. Register Online: http://
