CONDITION OF BUSINESS
The conditions of business set up below are information guidance for prospective buyer and seller with any enquiries relating to buying or selling at
the auction. We encourage you to read them wisely and thoroughly.
THE BUYER
Estimated Price
Estimated price is the price range, which reflects the opinion of our
specialist for the price expected to offer at the auction. This should not
be relied on as a statement that this price is either at which the lot
will sell or its value for any other purpose. Estimated prices are based
upon prices recently paid at auction, and the condition of the artworks
including the quality, rarity and history of ownership (provenance).
Reserve Price
The reserve is the confidential minimum price the seller is willing to
accept and below which a lot not be sold.
Buyer’s Premium
Buyers are reminded that the price to be paid will be the sum of the final
bid price plus the buyer’s premium. The rate of buyer’s premium for each
lot is 20 % (twenty percent) of the hammer price.
BEFORE THE AUCTION
Viewing
Pre-sale viewings are strongly recommended for prospective buyers in
order to examine the artworks thoroughly. Pre-sale viewing is open for
the public at no charge and usually displayed for 2 (two) days prior to
the sale.
Condition Reports
Condition reports are available upon request. They are statements of
opinion and should not be relied on as statements of definitive fact.
Descriptions of property are not warranties and that lot is sold “as is”. All
goods are sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description.
Illustrations in catalogues are for identification only. It is strongly
recommended that prospective buyers inspect and seek any independent
expert advice to satisfy you as to authorship, attribution, authenticity,
genuineness, origin, date, age, provenance or condition of lot.
Registration
If you are planning to participate in the auction, you will need to register
with us at the registration desk, to complete a bidder registration form
and to receive a bidding number to identify you if you are a successful
bidder. Registration can be made during the viewing period or 30 minutes
prior to the sell.
THE AUCTION
Bidding
All artworks are auctioned in consecutive numerical order. Bidding is done
in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) in incremental price raise. The auctioneer
will accept bids from those present in the saleroom or absentee bidders
participating by telephone or by written bid left with TREASURES in
advance. The lot being offered is usually illustrated on a screen.

Absentee/ Written Bids
If you cannot attend the auction in person, you may bid in other ways.
The most common is written bids. Written bids are written instruction
given to TREASURES to bid for you on one or more lots up to a maximum
amount you specify for each lot. There is no charge for this service. If two
or more parties leave identical bids, the first bid received by TREASURES
will take preference. Written bid forms are available 7 days before the
sale and returned to TREASURES within 24 hours before the sale or by fax
to (021) 351 0707.
Telephone Bids
If you cannot attend the auction, TREASURES will execute on behalf of
your bid by telephone. Please make arrangements for this service at least
1 (one) day before the sale. It is advisable for you to leave your maximum
bid, in case you are unable to reach us by phone.
Successful Bids
Successful bidder will be indicated by the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer
after reaching or exceeding the reserve price. TREASURES will record the
bidder number of the buyer. Under the auctioneer’s discretion bidding
may be reopened.
Unsold lots
When a lot fails to sell, the auctioneer will not announce a bidder’s
number. Lots unsold will be returned to the consignor usually after a week
in case there are any post sale offers.
AFTER THE AUCTION
Payment
Payment of purchases should be made within 7 (seven) calendar days.
Please include your paddle number, name, lot number, and total payment
in your bank instruction. If buyers do not make any payment or notice
to TREASURES during the scheduled time, they will be considered as
withdrawing.
Collection of Goods
Goods can be collected only when payment has cleared and been received
by TREASURES. Due to space constraints, TREASURES requires that
purchases and unsold property be collected within 7 (seven) days. If the
goods remain after 7 (seven) days TREASURES reserves the right to cause
the artworks to be stored at the expense of the purchaser.
Storage and Insurance
TREASURES provides insurance cover for sold items for a maximum of
7 (seven) days after the date of the sale. If the goods have not been
removed by the deadline, the goods will be deposited at warehouse and
all storage transportation and other associated costs as well as risk shall
be at the purchaser’s responsibility.
THE SELLER
Auction estimates
If you are considering selling your property at the auction, TREASURES will
provide a free initial estimate of its auction value. You can send a clear
photograph of each item with complete data includes the dimension,
artist’s signature, medium, physical condition and any other relevant
information.
After Sale Notification
You will receive an after sale advice listing the final bid price, or in the
event that the property failed to sell, notification that it was bought-in to
be returned to you. Payment for your sold property takes approximately 4
(four) weeks, provided payment has been received by us from the buyer.
CONDITIONS OF SALE
These conditions of sale together with any terms and conditions set out
a consignment form constitute the entire agreement with the Buyer on
respect to any lots listed in the catalogue. Amendment to the catalogue
descriptions may be made verbally during the course of auction or by
appropriate posted notices. By bidding at the auction, you shall be bound
by the conditions set out below.
Terms used in these conditions

“The Buyer” means the person with the highest bid accepted by the auctioneer.
*
“The Lot” means any items deposited with us for sale at auction and, in particular, the item (s) described against any lot number in the catalogue.
*
“The Hammer Price” means the amount of the highest bid accepted by the auctioneer in relation to a lot.
*
“The Reserve” means the amount below which we agree with the seller that the lot cannot be sold.
*
“The Buyer’s Premium” means the charge payable by the buyer as a percentage of the hammer price, at the rate set out in the auction room at the time of the relevant sale.
*
“Forgery” means a Lot constituting an imitation originally conceived and executed as a whole with a fraudulent intention to deceive as to authorship, origin, age, period, culture or source where the correct description as to such matters is not reflected by the description in the catalogue.
Withdrawal of Property
TREASURES reserve the right to withdraw from the sale the property or
to have the property listed at any auction without any prior notice to the
vendor.
Control of Auction
TREASURES will have absolute discretion to determine the successful
bidder should a dispute arise between the bidders and this includes the
authority to reject any bid, to cancel the sale or to re-offer the property
in dispute.
Ownership of Property
The fall of the auctioneer’s hammer indicates the property sold to the
buyer who is responsible for the property and shall be liable to pay the
full purchase price within 7 (seven) days. If extended payment terms have
not been granted, penalty interest will be charged on the unpaid balance
until paid.
Forgery
In the event of proven forgery, TREASURES will refund to the buyer the
purchase price of the lot. This refund will only occur on the following
terms:

The buyer must provide evidence from an independent expert who proves that the lot is a forgery. TREASURES reserves the right to request further expert evidence if, in its sole discretion, it is not satisfied with the finding of either expert.
The buyer must provide written notification to TREASURES within 1 (one) year of the auction date of the forgery allegations.
No refund will occur if there is any conflict of opinion among accepted
experts in the field or if it can be demonstrated that the lot is a forgery
only by means of scientific process that could damage or otherwise
jeopardize the condition of the lot and which scientific techniques were
not commonly employed until after the publication of the catalogue.
This guarantee is for the benefit of the buyer only and cannot be assigned.
Such buyer must have remained the owner of the property without
disposing of any interest in it to any third party up until the time the
alleged forgery was discovered.
Handling and Packaging
Handling and packing of all purchase lots shall be at the risk of the buyer
who shall pay an administration charge if TREASURES is responsible for
such services. TREASURES shall use our best efforts to take care when
handling the packing but remind the buyer that from 7 (seven) days time
after the sale, the goods are entirely at the buyer’s risk. You can instruct
your own shipper for the shipping. However, we can also arrange for such
service but are not responsible for any costs incurred during the shipping.
Notice
TREASURES remind prospective buyers that none of the property in
this catalogue is subject to any guarantee of authenticity and all of
the artworks sold “as is” with all imperfections, incompleteness, faults
and errors of description. All property is sold without any warranty or
representation. TREASURES is not responsible for any errors or omission
in the catalogue. Buyers are strongly recommended to take independent
professional advice on selection of purchase.
Remedies of TREASURES
If the buyer is in breach of any of the conditions of sale then TREASURES
may choose to take the following action:

In the event a defaulting buyer has made a part payment, TREASURES
reserves the right to apply such payment to any such lots at its sole
discretion.
Cancel the sale, retaining as liquidated damages any payment made by the buyer.
Re-sell the property without any minimum price at the next auction of TREASURES or privately on 5(five) days notice to the buyer.
Take any other action TREASURES may consider necessary.

INFORMASI DAN KETENTUAN LELANG
Informasi di bawah ini merupakan panduan dan penjelasan mengenai ketentuan lelang yang diselenggarakan oleh TREASURES Auction House. Kami
sarankan para calon pembeli dan penjual dapat mempelajari dan membaca ketentuan lelang dengan seksama.
PEMBELI
Harga Perkiraan
Harga perkiraan adalah kisaran harga yang akan ditawarkan pada saat
lelang berdasarkan perhitungan dan penilaian tim ahli kami atas kualitas,
sejarah/ asal mula dan kelangkaan serta keunikan suatu karya. Harga
tersebut merupakan harga yang terjadi berdasarkan harga yang terbentuk
di pasaran lelang dan bukan merupakan pernyataan resmi atas nilai suatu
lot pada karya tersebut.
Harga Reserve
Harga reserve adalah harga minimum suatu karya untuk boleh dijual
dan merupakan harga yang telah disepakati oleh pihak TREASURES dan
penjual.
Harga Yang Harus Di Bayar
Harga yang harus di bayarkan oleh pembeli adalah terdiri dari harga jadi
(hammer Price) ditambahkan jasa pasca lelang (premium price) untuk
setiap biaya-biaya, bunga dan pajak atas suatu karya sebesar 20% (Dua
puluh persen).
SEBELUM LELANG
Pameran
Calon pembeli disarankan untuk mengamati secara langsung karya-karya
yang akan ditawarkan pada lelang. Pameran dibuka untuk umum dan
berlangsung selama 2 (dua) hari sebelum lelang.
Keterangan Kondisi Karya
Keterangan mengenai kondisi karya tersedia sesuai permintaan. Keterangan
tersebut adalah pendapat dari ahli kami berdasarkan pengamatan dan
penilaian yang teliti. Seluruh karya yang ditawarkan adalah dalam
kondisi seperti apa adanya lengkap dengan segala kekurangan dan
ketidaksempurnaan karya tersebut. Uraian dalam keterangan katalog
hanya dipergunakan untuk keperluan identifikasi semata. Calon pembeli
disarankan untuk memeriksa, mencari keterangan dan pendapat dari ahli
independen atas keaslian, sejarah/ asal usul, keterangan serta kondisi
dari karya yang ditawarkan.
Pendaftaran
Calon peserta lelang wajib mendaftarkan diri dengan cara mengisi formulir
pendaftaran pada saat lelang untuk mendapatkan nomor peserta lelang
(paddle number) yang nantinya dipergunakan sebagai identitas pada saat
lelang. Pendaftaran dapat dilakukan pada saat pameran atau 30 menit
sebelum lelang dimulai.
SAAT LELANG
Penawaran
Seluruh karya akan dilelang berdasarkan nomor urutan lot. Harga
penawaran dilakukan dalam Mata uang Indonesia (IDR) berdasarkan
kenaikan harga yang sudah ditetapkan. Juru lelang menerima penawaran
dari peserta yang hadir si ruangan maupun peserta yang tidak dapat
hadir melalui penawaran telephone (telephone bid) ataupun penawaran
tertulis (written bid) yang sebelumnya telah diinformasikan kepada pihak
TREASURES. Lot karya yang akan ditawarkan biasanya ditampilkan pada
layar projector.
Kenaikan Harga
Penawaran biasanya dibuka di bawah harga estimasi terendah sampai
harga tertinggi dengan kenaikan harga sebagai berikut:

PESERTA YANG TIDAK DAPAT HADIR
Bagi calon peserta yang tidak dapat hadir pada saat lelang dapat mengisi
formulir Absentee Bid atau Telephone bid yang sudah tersedia 7 (tujuh)
hari sebelum lelang dan terlampir pada bagian belakang katalog ini.
Formulir yang telah diisi dengan data lengkap dapat dikirim melalui
fax (021) 351 0707 paling lambat 24 jam sebelum lelang dimulai.
Penawaran Tertulis
Penawaran tertulis adalah cara yang paling umum digunakan pada
saat lelang. Penawaran tertulis adalah instruksi yang diberikan kepada
TREASURES untuk mewakilkan diri pada saat lelang atas karya yang
diminati dengan menentukan harga maksimum yang diinginkan untuk tiap
lot. TREASURES tidak memungut biaya atas jasa ini. Jika terdapat dua
pihak atau lebih melakukan harga penawaran yang sama pada lot yang
sama, maka penawaran yang berlaku adalah kepada yang terlebih dahulu
diterima oleh TREASURES.
Penawaran Melalui Telephone
Selain melakukan penawaran tertulis peserta dapat juga melakukan
penawaran melalui telephone. TREASURES akan menjadi penghubung
pada saat lelang berlangsung. Pengaturan jasa ini paling lambat 1 (satu)
hari sebelum lelang dimulai. Peserta disarankan untuk memberitahukan
harga penawaran maksimal seandainya tidak dapat dihubungi melalui
telephone.
PEMENANG LELANG
Pemenang lelang adalah mereka yang berhasil melakukan penawaran
tertinggi atas suatu lot dan akan diumumkan oleh juru lelang yang
disahkan oleh pengetukan palu oleh juru lelang. Ketukan palu juru
lelang menandakan bahwa pembeli telah menerima harga jadi dan
TREASURES akan melakukan pencatatan atas nomor paddle pembeli. Juru
lelang berwenang sepenuhnya untuk melanjutkan penawaran pada lot
selanjutnya.
LOT YANG TIDAK TERJUAL
Lot yang tidak terjual ditandai oleh juru lelang dengan tidak menyebutkan
nomor paddle peserta. Lot yang tidak terjual akan dikembalikan kepada
pemiliknya biasanya dalam waktu satu minggu setelah lelang, seandainya
dalam waktu tersebut ada peminat atas karya tersebut diluar lelang.
SETELAH LELANG
Pembayaran
Pembayaran atas pembelian karya dilakukan dalam waktu 7(tujuh)
hari. Mohon cantumkan nama anda, nomor paddle dan nomor lot pada
kolom berita slip bank. Jika pembeli tidak melakukan pembayaran atau
pemberitahuan kepada TREASURES dalam jangka waktu yang telah
ditetapkan, maka akan dianggap batal atau mengundurkan diri.
PENGAMBILAN BARANG
Barang dapat diambil hanya apabila pembayaran telah dilakukan dan
diterima oleh TREASURES. Oleh karena keterbatasan tempat, baik barang
yang terjual maupun yang tidak terjual harus diambil dalam waktu 7
(tujuh) hari. Jika barang tersebut tidak diambil dalam waktu 7 (tujuh)
hari, TREASURES berhak untuk memindahkan dan menyimpan barang
tersebut ke gudang atas biaya pemiliknya.
PENYIMPANAN DAN ASURANSI
Asuransi atas karya yang telah terjual hanya berlaku selama 7 (tujuh) hari
setelah tanggal lelang. Jika barang tersebut belum diambil sampai batas
waktu yang telah ditetapkan maka barang akan dipindahkan dan disimpan
ke gudang.
Seluruh biaya transportasi dan sewa gudang serta biaya lainnya akan
ditanggung oleh pembeli. Segala resiko atas barang juga menjadi tanggung
jawab pembeli.
PENJUAL
Harga Perkiraan
Jika anda berminat untuk menjual barang anda melalui lelang, TREASURES
akan menyediakan perkiraan harga awal atas nilai lelang barang tersebut.
Anda dapat kirimkan foto tiap karya dilengkapi dengan keterangan atas
pelukis, judul, ukuran, media, tanda-tangan, sertifikat, kondisi dan
informasi pendukung lainnya.
Pemberitahuan Atas Penjualan
Daftar rincian perhitungan atas barang-barang yang terjual maupun tidak
terjual akan diberikan setelah lelang. Pembayaran atas barang-barang
yang terjual akan dilakukan dalam 4 (empat) minggu setelah TREASURES
menerima pembayaran dari pembeli.
KETENTUAN LELANG
Ketentuan lelang termasuk istilah-istilah dan persyaratan didalamnya
merupakan bentuk kesepakatan yang mendasari seluruh perjanjian
dengan pembeli atas lot-lot yang tercantum dalam katalog. Penambahan
pada keterangan katalog dapat dibuat secara lisan dalam kurun waktu
lelang atau dengan pemberitahuan secara tertulis. Dengan ikut serta
menjadi peserta lelang, anda akan terikat dengan kondisi-kondisi sebagai
berikut:
PENYELESAIAN DARI TREASURES
Jika pembeli melakukan pelanggaran atas kondisi penjualan, maka
TREASURES akan mengambil langkah-langkah sebagai berikut:
1.
Membatalkan penjualan, pembayaran yang dilakukan oleh pembeli dianggap sebagai pembayaran dengan kecacatan dan dianggap tidak dapat dicairkan.
2.
Menawarkan kembali barang tersebut tanpa menetapkan harga minimum dalam lelang TREASURES selanjutnya atau menjual secara pribadi dengan memberitahukan kepada pemiliknya selama 5 (lima) hari.
3.
Mengambil tindakan lain yang dianggap perlu apabila pembeli telah melakukan sejumlah pembayaran sehingga TREASURES berhak untuk menggunakan pembayaran tersebut atas lot lain atas wewenangnya sendiri.
PEMALSUAN
Jika terjadi suatu lot yang terbukti palsu, TREASURES akan mengembalikan
seluruh biaya yang telah dibayarkan kepada pembeli sesuai harga lot
tersebut. Pengembalian dana ini hanya dapat dilakukan apabila:

Pembeli telah memperlihatkan bukti-bukti yang berasal zzdari tenaga ahli independent yang menyatakan bahwa karya tersebut palsu. TREASURES berhak untuk meminta bukti lebih lanjut dari tenga ahli lainnya atas wewenangnya, apabila hasil temuan dari tenaga ahli kedau pihak masih dianggap kurang memuaskan.
2.
Pembeli harus memberikan pemberitahuan secara tertulis kepada TREASURES dalam waktu 1 (satu) tahun dari tanggal lelang atas pengajuan adanya pemalsuan karya.
Pengembalian dana tidak dapat dilakukan jika terjadi konflik pendapat
dari para tenaga ahli dilapangan atau pemalsuan hanya dapat dilakukan
oleh proses ilmiah yang dapat merusak atau membahayakan kondisi karya
tersebut.
Jaminan ini ditujukan hanya untuk kepentingan pembeli dan tidak bisa
dialihkan. Pembeli harus menjaga atas kepemilikan barang dengan
tidak pengalihkan pada pihak-pihak lain sampai saat pengajuan adanya
pemalsuan telah ditemukan.
Pengepakan dan pengiriman barang adalah sepenuhnya atas resiko
pembeli. Jika pembeli menginginkan TREASURES untuk melakukan
pengepakan dan pengiriman, maka pembeli harus membayar biaya atas
jasa tersebut. TREASURES akan berusaha untuk memberikan pelayanan
yang terbaik untuk menjaga barang yang telah dibeli, namun diingatkan
bahwa setelah waktu 7 (tujuh) hari setelah lelang, resiko barang ada pada
tanggungan pembeli. Pembeli bisa memerintahkan jasa pengirimannya
sendiri untuk melakukan pengiriman. TREASURES juga dapat membantu
untuk mengatur pengiriman barang tetapi tidak bertanggung jawab atas
biaya yang nanti terjadi.
PEMBATALAN/ PENARIKAN KARYA
PEMBERITAHUAN
TREASURES berhak untuk menarik karya dari lelang atau menentukan
karya yang akan masuk lelang.
TREASURES mempunyai hak mutlak untuk menentukan penawar/
pemenang lelang jika terdapat
perselisihan yang muncul antara
penawar, hal tersebut juga meliputi otoritas untuk menolak penawaran
apapun, membatalkan penjualan atau ke menawarkan ulang barang yang
diperebutkan.
Ketukan palu juru lelang menandakan barang terjual kepada pembeli
yang bertanggung jawab atas kepemilikan barang tersebut dan
berkewajiban untuk membayar seluruh pembelian dalam waktu 7 (tujuh)
hari. Jika permintaan untuk memperpanjang batas waktu pembayaran
tidak disetujui, maka akan dikenakan biaya bunga atas saldo yang belum
dibayar sampai dibayar.
Istilah-istilah
“Pembeli” adalah orang perorangan atau badan hukum yang mengajukan
penawaran tertinggi dan diterima oleh juru lelang.
“Lot” adalah barang yang telah dititipkan kepada TREASURES untuk dijual
dalam lelang dan telah diberikan uraian dan keterangan dalam katalog.
“Harga Hammer/ Ketuk Palu” adalah harga jadi yang merupakan harga
tertinggi yang telah ditetapkan oleh juru lelang atas lot yang ditawarkan.
“Harga Reserve” adalah harga minimum suatu karya untuk boleh dijual
dan merupakan harga yang telah disepakati oleh pihak TREASURES dan
penjual.
“Harga Premi” adalah jasa pasca lelang yang dikenakan kepada pembeli
atas setiap biaya-biaya, bunga dan pajak atas suatu karya dengan kisaran
yang telah ditentukan.
“Pemalsuan” berarti suatu lot yang berasal dari tiruan atas suatu karya
yang ditujukan untuk menipu atas keaslian, sejarah, umur, jaman, budaya
dimana sumber keterangan yang benar atas hal tersebut tidak dijelaskan
dalam keterangan katalog.
PENGAWASAN LELANG

KEPEMILIKAN BARANG
PENGEPAKAN DAN PENGIRIMAN BARANG
TREASURES tidak pernah memberikan jaminan atas keaslian karya yang
terdapat dalam katalog ini. Seluruh karya yang ditawarkan adalah sesuai
apa adanya dengan segala ketidaksempurnaan, kecacatan, kekurangan
maupun kesalahan dari penjelasannya. Penyajian seluruh karya dalam
katalog ini bukan merupakan jaminan atas keabsahan atau keaslian karya
tersebut. TREASURES tidaklah bertanggung jawab atas kesalahan atau
penghilangan keterangan apapun dalam katalog. Para Pembeli sangat
direkomendasikan untuk mengambil nasihat profesional dari tenaga ahli
yang mandiri pada karya yang akan dibeli atau dipilih.

Agung Mangu Putra
Mangu Putra was born in Sangeh, Bali, on May 11, 1963. He graduated from the
faculty of Art and Design at the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI), Yogyakarta majoring
Visual Communication Design (1990). His first exhibition was in Dewata Gallery
(1987) at Taman Budaya Denpasar. Being a designer did not satisfy him as an artist
then he decided to engage in full time painting in 1998. Since his first solo exhibition
in Ubud (1990) his name was considered as valuable painter in Indonesia. He held
his solo exhibition at National Gallery, “Teater Rakyat”, Jakarta, 2010; “Silent Word”,
Gajah Gallery, Singapore (2008), Mandala, Bidadari, Ubud-Bali (2007), “Belief, Rupa
Gallery”, Surabaya (2005),etc. He also joined in several group exhibitions in Jakarta,
Yogyakarta, Bali and other country. He received awards as the Best in Design Arts
(during the 4th and 6th anniversary of ISI, as the finalist of Philip Morris Award in
1994 and Indofood Art Award 2002, Second Place, Jakarta.

Mangu Putra’s works arise from intense contact with the world as a conscious expression of his main creative orientation. Representations of natural phenomena,
along with the inner pulse of life, form the main stream of his search. The natural
world, such as mountains and coasts, are depicted as identifiable objects. Some of his
works with abstract designs imply natural images, such as the character of water and
the texture and colors of earth or stone. Through his work he expressed his gratitude towards God creations. He gave specific themes on his work from which other
painters did not pay attention to. Until now many of his works were collected by art
collectors in Indonesia and overseas. This exciting and very talented artist has participated in a number of group and solo exhibitions throughout Indonesia and abroad.

Being fascinated by photographic realism, Dede Eri Supria has developed his paintings
through collection of photographs. He found his idioms through observing photos. However he never copies the photographs either. His paintings show that he tends to go beyond
photography, in the sense that the sceneries he creates in his canvases are impossible for
photography to emulate. In playing with this imagination of the unreal-reality or engineered
visual reality, he employs painstakingly realistic technique in the details of his works. His
style and theme becomes a pioneer of Gerakan Seni Rupa Indonesia in the late 70’s. He
had received several awards, such as: General Award for The Arts from The Society for
American Indonesia Friendship Inc. (1978), The International Visitor’s Program from USIS,
USA (1981), Anugerah Adam Malik (1986), and Affandi Award (1993).
Since the last two decades, Dede Eri Supria has developed fascinating paintings that amaze
the Indonesian art aficionados. His works are rich in colors, forms, and lines which formed
in careful fashion producing a pleasant and enjoyable picture. The picture sometimes drives
the viewers to personally feel the situation as illustrated in canvas. Balinese dancer is one
of Dede’s favorite objects that often times reveal in most of his painting with different style
and nuances.

Born in Surabaya, East Java, April 16, 1932. In 1946 he started
painting under the painter S. Sudjojono in Sanggar Indonesia
Muda (Young Indonesian Artists Association), Madiun. Rustamadji
was a painter in the realistic – naturalistic style from the 1940’s
to the 1960’s, he focused on themes of daily life and experiences
which were familiar to the people. This subject, that reflected
feelings of nationalism, became popular after the more romantic
– naturalistic – Mooi Indie style of the 1930’s.
Rustamadji was greatly influenced by the spirit of the time when
he began painting. His works were egalitarian with their messages
of social, economic and political equality for everyone. Rustamadji was deeply inspired by the people’s daily life. His often used
objects of paintings describing the themes of figures, landscapes,
and markets and dancers. He closely observed the realities of life
among ordinary people. He shows his expertise in presenting detailed forms, treatment of light and shadow, and creating a certain
kind of mood.

Salim (Saraochmin Salim) was born in Medan, North Sumatra, on 3 September 1908.
In 1919 he went to the Netherlands, then in 1928 to Paris, France. There he met
Fernand Leger whom he studied painting with and continued to study at the Académie de la Grande Chaumiére from 1929 to 1932. He is an amazing artist who
has maintained his social beliefs and ideals throughout his long life, for the belives
that artists will never die. His life and artistry are documented in the books Pelukis
Salim (1983) and Salim: Pelukis Indonesia di Paris (2003). Since 1948, Salim has held
several solo exhibitions in France, the Netherlands, Switzerlands, Belgium and Japan.
He held several solo exhibitions in Indonesia since 1952. He received many awards
from the France government as well as other International awards such the Festival
International de Paris-Sud (1971), The National Prize of the International Exhibition at
Cagnes Sur-Mer (1972) and Medeille d’Argent of the Festival International de ParisSud (1973). He continues painting and lives in Paris until he passed away in on 13
October 2008. He visualizes things in his works that leave lasting impressions with
their strong lines and lively color.

ABAS ALIBASYAH (Purwakarta, 1928)
Born in Purwakarta, March 1, 1928. studied at the Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia (ASRI,
Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts) in Yogyakarta, Central Java, from 1950-1956. He also
taught at many schools and universities in Yogyakarta, including ASRI and Universitas
Gajah Mada. His works are balanced compositions of color and form. Award: Piagam
Anugerah Seni (Indonesia, 1975). Exhibitions: Festival of Indonesia (U.S.A., 1990-1992),
center for Strategic and International Studies (Jakarta, Indonesia, 1996). Abas became
the lecturer of ASRI and later became the principal of the institution ever since. He
started painting landscapes and was later attracted to ethnic objects. His works have
been granted many awards from the Indonesian government as well as foreign countries
such as Cultural Award Scheme from the Australian government (1970), the best work in
painting of Biennale Indonesia (1974), the Lempad award from Sanggar Dewata Indonesia
(1984) etc. His works was in the collection of former Indonesian President Soekarno as
well as many art collectors.
ADAM LAY (Wonosobo, Central Java, 1949)
Born in Wonosobo, Central Java on September 25, 1949. He started painting since he was
in elementary school. He was known as an autodidact painter. His first solo exhibition held
in 1979 at Hotel Indonesia, Jakarta. As a professional painter he joined several exhibitions
in Jakarta and Australia.
ADI KANIKO( Surabaya, 1964 )
Born in Surabaya, 22 March 1964. He studied art at IKIP Surabaya majoring in Fine Art.
He has participated in several group exhibitions among others “Small is Beautiful” in
Jakarta 2005, “Olimpiade” in Jakarta 2004, Interpellation CP Open Biannale” in Jakarta
2003, “Gak Kakehan Omong” in Surabaya 2001, “Greget Paradigma” in Sahid Hotel Jakarta
2000, “Photo & Instalasi” in CCF Surabaya 1999, etc. He was a finalist at the 6th Philip
Morris Competition Art Awards held in Jakarta. Adi’s work that often reflects on the ills of
hypocritical regimes signifies how art has a special, truthful task to carry out, and must
read and understand the people’s inner voices. He received awards from Indonesia Art
Award 6 & 7, and CP Open Biennale Jakarta.
AFFANDI (Cirebon, 1907 – 1990)
Born in Cirebon, March 11, 1907. He is considered as the Indonesian Artist par excellent.
He was the founder of the Himpunan Pelukis Masyarakat (Community’s Artists Association
(1946) and Himpunan Pelukis Rakyat (People’s Artists Association) in 1947, Affandi was
committed to creating a new artistic idiom for Indonesia. In the early of 1950s he traveled
to India for a grant from Indian Government, he held several one-man shows in several
Indian Cities, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Italy. He received
an Indonesian Art Award from the Ministry of Education and Culture (1969), the Dag
Hammerskjoeld Prize from Italy (1977) and an Indonesian Government the First Class Merit
(1978). His works were exhibited in major exhibitions in Asia, Europe, and the Americas
and were also be acquired by major art collectors and institutions all over the world since
the 1950s.
AGUNG MANGU PUTRA (Sangeh, Bali, 1963)
Mangu Putra was born in Sangeh, Bali, on May 11, 1963. He graduated from the faculty
of Art and Design at the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI), Yogyakarta majoring Visual
Communication Design (1990). His first exhibition was in Dewata Gallery (1987) at Taman
Budaya Denpasar. Being a designer did not satisfy him as an artist then he decided to
engage in full time painting in 1998. Since his first solo exhibition in Ubud (1990) his name
was considered as valuable painter in Indonesia. He held his solo exhibition at National
Gallery, “Teater Rakyat”, Jakarta, 2010; “Silent Word”, Gajah Gallery, Singapore (2008),
Mandala, Bidadari, Ubud-Bali (2007), “Belief, Rupa Gallery”, Surabaya (2005),etc. He also
joined in several group exhibitions in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bali and other country. He
received awards as the Best in Design Arts (during the 4th and 6th anniversary of ISI, as
the finalist of Philip Morris Award in 1994 and Indofood Art Award 2002, Second Place,
Jakarta. Through his work he expressed his gratitude towards God creations and tried to
give alternative point of view about Bali from its touristy image. He gave specific themes
on his work from which other painters did not pay attention to. Until now many of his
works were collected by art collectors in Indonesia and overseas. This exciting and very
talented artist has participated in a number of group and solo exhibitions throughout
Indonesia and abroad.
AGUS DJAYA (Pandeglang, West Java, 1913 - 1993)
Born in Pandeglang, West Java, April 1, 1913. He studied art at Rijks Academie Beeldende
Kunsten, Amsterdam (1947 – 1949) and Universiteit Amsterdam, Facultieit van Journalistiek
(1947 – 1949). He was taught under the guidance of painter Willem van der Berg and Van
Thienen. During in Europe, he met with great painters like Pablo Picasso, France, Salvador
Dali, Spain and Sculpture expert, Ossip Zadkine, Poland. He has been participated in
numerous exhibitions in Indonesia and overseas. He received an honor to held exhibition
in Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam which introduce not only his name but also Indonesian
Painters to the world. In 1947, he participated in the International Exhibition, Monaco
and received an award “Le Grand Prix de la Peinture de Monaco. In 1965, he received an
award “L’oscar de Peinture” in the International exhibition in Zagreb, Yugoslavia. In 1993,
the Indonesian government awarded him the Art Award and also awarded many military
medal of his participation in the Indonesian struggle for independence. His contribution in
Indonesian art development also seen by founding art studio and galley in Bali (1953) and
also Agus Djaya Foundation of Fine Art and Social education in Jakarta.
AGUS RIYADI (Sleman, Yogyakarta, 1979)
Born in Sleman Yogyakarta on 21 August 1979. He has actively participated in several

group exhibitons such as the KIAF(Korea International Art Fair), Art Seasons Gallery, COEX,
WTC Seoul Korea (2008), Dies Natalis ISI Yogyakarta (2005-2007), Group exhibitions with
Kelompok Kereta Yogyakarta (2002), and the Anniversary of SMSR Yogyakarta (1998).
AMRUS NATALSYA (Medan, 1933)
Born in Medan, October 21, 1933. He studied at SSRI & ASRI Yogyakarta majoring art
sculpture. Many of his works have been collected by art collectors in Indonesia and
overseas. In 1983 he did 5 wooden calligraphic monuments in Jeddah. He got the best
award from the Trienale Jakarta II in 1998 held by the Jakarta Arts Council.
ANANG ASMARA (Yogyakarta, 1974)
Anang Asmara (Asmara meaning “love”), a 35-year-old painter from Sleman regency
near Yogyakarta. I was struck not just by his style and astounding ability to reproduce
detail and texture, but also by the strong symbolism of his paintings. This stems in part
from Anang’s admiration and respect for traditional culture (and especially the Javanese
traditions into which he was born), but it is influenced also by his admiration and
respect for women, whom he feels often get a very raw deal in contemporary Indonesia.
ANTON HUANG (Bandung, 1935 – 1985)
Born in Bandung, 1935. At 20s, he learnt painting from painter Kartono Yudhokusumo
at Sanggar Seniman and continued to study under painter Barli. In 1959, he held his
exhibition in several major cities in Indonesia among others in Jakarta, Bandung and
Surabaya. He was also active participating in many exhibitions abroad such as in Denmark
and Amsterdam. In 1969, he moved to Bali where he strongly in contact with European
artists that develop his painting.
ARIE SMIT (Zaandam, the Netherlands, 1916)
Born in Zaandam, the Netherlands, 1916. He was a student of the Academy of Arts in
Rotterdam before working as lithographer for the Dutch Colonial Army in the Dutch Indies
prior to the Second World War. He moved to Bali in 1956 to engage in full time painting
and became an Indonesian Citizen, produced as well as taught painting at the Bandung
Institute of Technology (ITB). Many of his paintings depict the nature of his surrounding
environment. He had several solo exhibitions in Bandung Institute of Technology, The
Honolulu East West Center, and the Center of Strategic and International Studies in
Jakarta. He received the “Dharma Kusuma” art awards from the local government of Bali.
BAMBANG ‘BENK’ PRAMUDIYANTO (Klaten, 1965)
Born in Klaten, 1965. He studied art at the Indonesian Fine Art Acedemy (ASRI) Yogyakarta
in 1989. He has participated the Worlds of Objects exihibition at Mon décor Gallery
Jakarta. His solo exhibition was held at Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta and Bentara Budaya
Jakarta in 2001. He was awarded as one of the Five Best works of the Philip Morris Art
Awards in Jakarta.
BONNY SETIAWAN ( Wonogiri, Central Java, 1968)
Born in Central Java, 1968. He graduated from the Art Academy (ASRI) in Yogyakarta.
Yogya, as the Javanese city is lovingly referred to, is the cultural heart of Java. He found
his great fond of the city culture that inspires his work creation. Both, his father and
mother were painters. He has participated in several painting exhibitions in major cities
in Indonesia. His works are among the collections of many artlovers.
BUNGA JERUK PERMATA PEKERTI (Solo, 1972)
Born in Solo, Central Java, 1972. She studied at the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI),
yogyakarta. She held her solo exhibition at Centre Culturel Francaise (CCF), Yogyakarta,
Sculpture Square, Singapore (2000), Edwins Gallery (2002), Museum der Moderne
Salzburg, ustria (2003). She participated in several group exhibitions at the 10th Biennale,
Taman Ismail Marzuki Art Center, Jakarta (1996), Cemara 6 Cafe Gallery, Jakarta (1997),
Yogyakarta 6th Biennale, purna Budaya, Yogyakarta, National Gallery, Jakarta, Cemeti
Art House, Yogyakarta (1999), Museum of Art, Moscow, Rusia, Edwin’s Gallery (2000),
Widayat Museum, Magelang (2001), Keuppersmuehle Sammlung Grothe Museum, Duisburg,

CAREL LODEWIJK DAKE, Jr (Schaerbeek, 1886 – Jakarta, 1946)
Born in Schaerbeek, Belgium, 1886. He traveled to different places and intensely painted
about Cambodja and Thailand but mostly attracted to Indonesian landscape. He went to
all over Java, Sumatra and Bali as his painting objects. He died in Jakarta (1946).
CHENG SHUI (Bogor, West Java, 1981)
Ong Cheng Shui was born in Bogor, West Java in 1981. He is autodidact painter who found
his great interest in painting since he was young. He has been actively involved in arts
since 2000. As a professional painter, he has participated in several group exhibitions
since 2000 until now. Among others group exhibition at Bogor (2000), at Crown Plaza Hotel
(January, 2010), at Pacific Place (March, 2010), at pondok Indah Mall (April, 2010), and at
Grand Indonesia, (July, 2010). His artworks have been in the collections of both local and
foreign collectors. As a painter, he was inspired by Lee Man Fong paintings. His subject of
paintings closely connected with the animal world, village scene and people’s daily lives
which have become the sought after themes of painting by collectors.
DEDE ERI SUPRIA (Jakarta, 1956)
Born in Jakarta, January 29, 1956. He studied at the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI)
in Yogyakarta (1974). In 1976 his name first emerged in the Indonesian Art Scene when he
exhibited his works at the first Seni Rupa Baru Indonesia exhibition at the Balai Budaya,
Jakarta. He has received several awards for his works, Jakarta Biennale 1981, won a Philip
Morris Indonesian Art Awards in 1997 and was participated into the ASEAN Art Awards
in Manila. He has participated in many group shows as well as solo exhibitions. Dede
held his solo exhibitions at Jakarta Stock Exchange (1997) and at the Art Folio Space
in Singapore (2002). Today, he is considered an influential propagator of super-realist
painting in Indonesia.
HASAN DJAAFAR (Koto Gadang, West Sumatra, 1919 - 1995)
Born in Koto Gadang, West Sumatra, 1919. He once taught by the famous landscape painter,
Wakidi. He visited Europe in 1948 which after influenced his works to be impressionist
and expressionist. In 1956, he held his first exhibition in Indonesia then continued to
participate in tour exhibitions, among others are Singapore, Australia, Brazil, Japan, and
several European countries. He died in 1995.
DEWA PUTU MOKOH (Pengosekan, Ubud,Bali, 1936)
Born in Pengosekan, Ubud, Bali, 1935. Though he never had any formal education in
arts, his painting styles are very ingenuine and unique applying the Pengosekan painting
techniques. He learned painting from I Gusti Kobot. But since 1970, Mokoh’s work has

DULLAH (Solo, 1919 – 1996)
Dullah was born in Solo, 1919. He studied painting under Affandi and Sudjojono but has
his own distinctive style of naturalism. He was well known for his landscape and portraits
paintings. He was one of the founders of HBS – Surakarta Cultural Community (1950).
In 1956, he edited book of former Presiden Soekarno’s Private Collection of Indonesian
Art (volume I & II). Since the early days of the independence, Dullah was very close to
Soekarno, the first President of the Republic of Indonesia and was appointed by Soekarno
to care for the President’s private art collection and as curator of the state painting
collections. At age 70, Dullah built his museum, now a cultural landmark, as his dedication
to a love of the arts over a creative lifetime. He has had numerous art exhibitions in
Indonesia and overseas and in 1988 his work was included in the Art of Bali exhibition held
at the East West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Now, his works been kept in Dullah Museum
in Solo. He died in 1996.
HASIM (Jakarta, 1921-1982)
Born in Jakarta, 1921. He lived and worked in Jakarta.
EFFENDI (Malang, 1957)
Born in Malang, East Java, 1957. He studied at the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI),
Yogyakarta in 1986. He participated in many exhibitions in several places in Indonesia. He
received awards from the Philip Morris Indonesia in 1995 and 1997, Phillip Morris ASEAN
and Triennale Painting in Osaka, Japan, 1996.
ERICA HESTU WAHYUNI (Yogyakarta, 1971)
Born in Yogyakarta, 1971. She began to study painting when she was young and join
Sanggar Katamsi under painters Suharto P.R. and Herry Wibowo. In 1996, she graduated
from the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta. She performed her solo exhibition in
Yogyakarta and Jakarta. She intensely participated in many group exhibitions in Indonesia
and overseas, Singapore, Philippines, Japan and Russia. She received award for the Best
Work at ISI Yogyakarta in 1993.
ERNEST DEZENTJE (Jatinegara, 1885 – 1972)
Born in Jatinegara, Java, 1885. He was a self-taught artist who came from French. He
was a member of the Bataviasche Kunstkring. He used impressionist and sometimes
divisionistic style. He has participated in several exhibitions to represent his works. He
received prize from former President Soekarno. He died in 1972.
FADJAR SIDIK (Surabaya, 1930 - 2004)
Born in Surabaya, February 8, 1930. He studied at ASRI Yogyakarta in 1954 and learnt
painting from Hendra Gunawan and Sudarso (1952) at Sanggar Pelukis Rakyat. He lived in
Bali from 1957 – 1961. He received art award as Contemporary Painter from the Indonesian
Government in 1971 and from the Government of Yogyakarta.
HATTA HAMBALI (Sengkawang, South Sulawesi, 1949)
Born in Sengkawang, South Sulawesi 1949. He was graduated from ASRI Yogyakarta. Since
1970 He has participated in several group exhibitions. He was also awarded as the Best Art
Work in the Wendy Sorensen Memorial Award.
HENING PURNAMAWATI (Cimahi, 1960)
Born in Cimahi, September 3, 1960. He graduated from ISI Yogyakarta in 1987. She received
awards from the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI) Yogyakarta for the Best Sketches
(1981) and the Best Work (1987), Perupa Muda Surabaya (Surabaya Young Painters) for
the Best Painting, the Ten Best Paintings Award (1994) and the Best Winner of Best Work,
Indonesian Art Award (1996) from the Indonesian Fine Art Foundation, as Talented Popular
Figure of East Java from Surabaya Post (1996) and the Award from the Department of
Tourism and Culture, minister Marzuki Usman (1998). She was received award from
Indonesia Institute of the Arts in Yogyakarta in 1987, Philip Morris Indonesian Fine Arts
Foundation Art Awards in 1994 and 1996, Minister for Tourism Art and Culture (1998).
HERI KRIS (Yogyakarta, 1967)
Born in Yogyakarta, 28 May 1967. He studied at FSRD ISI Yogyakarta in 1986. He held his
solo exhibitions in Jerman 1994. He also has participated in several group exhibitions
such as “Not Just The Political” in Museum H. Widayat Magelang (2002), “83th Widayat”
in Museum Widayat Magelang (2002), Group exhibitions in Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Bali,
Semarang, Denmark, and Amsterdam.
I DEWA NYOMAN TJITA (Batuan, Bali, 1927)
Tjita was born in Batuan, 1927. He is the third son of nine children. His father is I Dewa
Putu Kebes, a renowned painter who also producing topeng celuluk and bondres. By the
age of seven, he already painted and carved the palaces under his father’s supervision.
Through this, his interest in painting has grown. Therfore his early works dominately
illustrate Kamasan style of wayang paintings. In his 20s, he started to paint in Batuan
style. At first, he would paint the wayang theme but then his object shifted to the Balinese
daily scene of temple’s ritual and gamelan player. Like his father, Tjita also carveds mask
and sculpture, natah wayang, does the woodcarving and plays the classic gambuh. Though
never studied in any school, Tjita reads and writes in Balinese. He has - together with the
Pita Maha association. Aside from bali, he also exhibited his works various exhibitions from
Jakarta to the Netherlands. His earlier works were in black and white, but later he also
uses other colours for his paintings.
I GUSTI MADE DEBLOG (Denpasar, 1906 – 1986)
Born in Denpasar, 1906 but at several publications were indicated 1910 as his birth year.
He died in 1986. When he was 25 years old he learned to enlargement of photo print form
famous photographer, Yap Sin Tin, but then he move to painting. He joined Pita Maha
Ubud in 1940. He joined the Bali Citra Painter Association in Denpasar and continuously
participated in exhibitions organized by the association.
FREDERICK ANTON KIEVITS (Bogor, West Java, 1887 – The Hague, 1951)
FA Keivits was born in Bogor, West Java 10 September 1887. Painter and draughtsman, who
lived and worked in Indonesia in the 1920’s and 1930’s. In April – May 1938 he participated
in the “Bondscollectie” exhibition in Jakarta, “Kuntszaal Kolff and Co, November 1930
(one man show) in Jakarta, The Hague, Panorama Mesdag in 1949 (one man show). During
Wordl War II he was interested by the Japanese and put in a camp. The Artist painted and
drew landscapes depicting Indonesia, his memories from the Japanese camps and other
subjects of his native country. He was passed away in The Hague 1951.
I GUSTI MADE KWANJI (Peliatan,Ubud, 1936)
He was born in Peliatan, Ubud in 1936. When he was 20 years old, he joined Golongan
Pelukis Ubud led by Rudolf Bonnet.
FREDERICK KASSENDA (1920-1950)
Born 1920 – 1950. He was considered as one of the Mooi Indie painter who did his painting
career in early 20th Century in Indonesia. His subject of paintings mostly depicts Indonesia
scenery of mountain landscape, rice field, and also sea panorama. Several works by the
artist have been sold at auction in Indonesian as well as abroad.
I KETUT REGIG (Ubud, 1919 – 2002)
Born in Tebesaya, Ubud 1919. He started painting in 1935. Therefore when Pita Maha
was founded in Ubud, 1936, he immediately joined in. He got art lesson from Rudolf
Bonnet and Wakter Spies. His works were collected by Ir. Soekarno and Museums. He has
participated in numerous exhibitions in Indonesia and overseas. He successfully taught
several art pupils including I Wayan Sadia.
HAMDAN TT (Padang, West Sumatra 1980)
Hamdan TT was born in Padang, 9 October 1980. He has participated in several group
exhibitions such as “Philip Morris Indonesian Art Awards” in Gallery Nasional Jakarta, “Dies
Natalis XVII” in Yogyakarta, “Gledek 99” in Yogyakarta, “Art for Yogya” in Taman Budaya
Yogyakarta and many others.
HANAFI (Purworejo, Central Java, 1960)
Bon in Purworejo, Central Java, 1960. He is one of the young potential artists among the
group o Agus Suwage and Ivan Sagita. He took his formal education in the Indonesian Art
Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta in 1979. He held his solo exhibition in Jakarta, Bali, Singapore,
Kuala Lumpur, Barcelona and Toronto. He has participated in several group exhibitions
such as Movement, Jakarta, Biennale IX, and the Philip Morris Art Award Exhibition in
Jakarta and Bali. On June 2004, he shows his great talent in painting spontaneously for
the Olympic event in Athena, Greek.
I KETUT MURTIKA (Bali, 1955)
Murtika painting under his uncle, the celebrated, Batuan artist I Made Djata. One of
Mustika’s masterpieces, “The wheel of life” in the permanent collection of Museum Puri
Lukisan.
I KETUT TENANG (Denpasar, 1969)
Born in Denpasar, Bali, 1969. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at ISI
Yogyakarta in 1996. He awarded for the best oil painting and the best watercolor painting
and sketch from ISI. Beside that in 1997 he was also one of the finalists in The Philip Morris
Indonesia Art Awards. He has participated in several exhibitions.
I WAYAN GEDE SUANDA SAYUR (Ubud, Bali, 1980)
Suanda Sayur was born Ubud, Bali, 1980. He graduated from Faculty of Fine Arts ISI
Yogyakarta in 2006. He has participated in several group exhibitions such as “Sanggar
Caping UNS” Solo (2000), “Pencarian” Benteng Vrendeburg Yogyakarta (2001), “Tanda
Mata Seni” Guanyar Bali (2001), “Mini Market” Museum Bali (2005), and “Festival Tirta

I MADE SUKADANA (Amlapura, Bali, 1966)
Born in March 12, 1966 in Amlapura, Bali, 1966. He Graduated from the faculty of Art and
Design at the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta. Actively in doing exhibition since
1987 in Yogyakarta, Solo, Bali, and Jakarta. In 1987-1988 received awards for “Best in
Sketch” from the faculty of Arts and Design of the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta.
He received awards for the Best Sketch/ Painting from painting program in his school
(1985 – 1987), the Lempad Prize from Dewata Indonesia Gallery (1982), award from the
minister of the Department of Tourism, and as the finalist for the Philip Morris Art Award.
Since 1987 he participated in joint-exhibition for 42 times, The “Lempad” award (1992)
and 4 times solo exhibition in Bentara Budaya, Yogyakarta (1997) and in National Museum,
Jakarta (2001).

Born in Denpasar, June 10, 1972. He got his bachelor degree from the Indonesian Institute
of Arts. He held his solo exhibition at Bentara Budaya, Yogyakarta (2001). Since 1990, he
participated in many group exhibitions, Phillip Morris Art Award (2000), Bentara Budaya,
Yogyakarta (2001), Sanggar Dewata Indonesia, Yogyakarta (2001, 2003), etc. He received
awards for the Best Painting from ISI, Yogyakarta, Semifinalist of Phillip Morris Art Award
(1995, 2000), and the Best Poster at Young Art Festival, Bali.
KOEBOE SARAWAN (Malang, 1961)
Born in Malang, East Java, 1961. He finished his study at The Indonesian Institute of
Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta and later took lesson of Batik Solo. His works have been actively
represented in several group exhibitions in major cities in Indonesia, among others,
Surabaya, Malang, Jakarta, Solo, Bali and Yogyakarta.
I NYOMAN DARYA (Gianyar, Bali, 1974)
Born in Gianyar, Bali on 2 April 1974. He studied art at the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI)
Yogyakarta. He has joined in several group exhibitions such as “Millenium III” in Sanggar
Dewata Bali (1999), “Philip Morris Indonesian Art Award” in Gallery Nasional Jakarta
(1999), “Icarnation Lima” in Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta (2005) and etc. He was awarded
as the finalis Philip Morris Indonesian Art Award VI (1999) and Indofood Art Award (2001).
I NYOMAN LANUSA (Tebesaya, Ubud, 1946)
Born in Tebesaya, Ubud, June 20th 1946. He started to paint under the guidance of the
traditional painters Mangku Nomer and I Ketut Jojol and after 1965 together with the
painter I Nyoman Tulus. His paintings got well known and were regularly sought after by
the local art-shops and galleries, especially the Agung Rai Gallery in Peliatan. He recently
held his first solo exhibition “I Nyoman Lanusa, The Silent Scream” in 2006.
I NYOMAN RIDI (Penestanan, Bali, 1945)
Born in Panestanan, Bali, in 1945. He begins painting with traditional theme and later
continue his style to be realise traditional modern. Until present he still active in
participating in several exhibitions.
I NYOMAN SUKARI (Karangasem, Bali)
Born in Karangasem, Bali. He studied at SMSR Denpasar (1987 – 1990) and ISI Yogyakarta
(1990 – 1996). He received Awards for the Best Sketch from SMSR Denpasar (1989) and the
Best Oil Painting from ISI Yogyakarta (1992), the Menpora Award (1992), the Best Painting
on Dies Natalis ISI Yogyakarta (1993), the Best Painting of Pratisara Affandi Adikarya (1994)
and Lempad Price. He has participated in more than 50 times of group-exhibitions in Bali,
Jakarta, Bogor, Gresik, Batam, Australia and Moscow.
IDA BAGUS INDRA “IBI” (Bali, 1974)
Born in 1974, Ida Bagus Indra held his first exhibition in 1996, quickly established as an
artistic force to be reckoned with. Winning recognition at the 2003 Indonesian Art Awards,
Indra has held solo exhibitions at the Lynne Wilton Gallery in Melbourne; the Ganesha
Gallery at the Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay; and the Four Seasons in Jakarta.
He has also joined group exhibition in Germany, Melbourne, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur,
Surabaya, Yogyakarta and Malang. Currently his artworks are widely collected by private
and corporate individuals internationally.
IDA BAGUS MADE NADERA (Tegallingah, 1910 - 1998)
Ida Bagus Nadera was born in Tegallingah, 1910. He only finished elementary school. He
dedicated all his life in painting. He learnt painting by himself then later been directed
by Rudolf Bonnet and Walter Spies. He used traditional style for his works and greatly
influenced by Walter Spies. Since 1932 – 1940 he was active to participate in Pitamaha
organization and joined the Ubud Artists’ Association after the World War II. He spent the
rest of his life living in Gianyar by reading and as a Dalang Wayang (wayang player). He
received the Wija Kusuma Art Award from Gianyar and The Dharma Kusuma award from
Bali government in 1988. Nadera set up his own studio in 1959, where he continued to
paint until he died in 1998.
IDA BAGUS RAI (Padangtegal, Gianyar, 1933)
Born in Padangtegal, Gianyar, 1933. He is deeply familiar with Balinese culture. He studied
art under the painter Rudolf Bonnet (Dutch, 1895-1978) and gives more human-like forms
to mythological figures. He has a fine sense of shading and color. He has participated in
several exhibitions among others East West Center (Honolulu, Hawaii, 1998), Singapore
Art Museum (1994), Center for Strategic and International Studies in Jakarta (1996).
JB. IWAN SULISTYO (Kudus, Central Java, 1954)
Born in Kudus, Central Java, 1954. He was the first winner in the competition organized
by the Gallendra Art Shop at Semarang in 1970. He has done 18 solo exhibitions in Jakarta,
Singapore, and New Zealand. He has performed numerous the group exhibitions as well.
Beside that he also has received many awards.
JUMALDI ALFI (Lintau, West Sumatra, 1973)
Born in Lintau, West Sumatra, 1973. He graduated from Fine rt High School and Faculty
of Fine Art, Indonesia Institute of Art (ISI) Yogyakarta. In 1998 he was awarded the best

JUNI A. WULANDARI (Jepara, 1967)
Born in Jepara, 1967. She graduated from Indonesia Art Institute majoring in painting. She
has participated in several group exhibitions in Yogyakarta, Semarang, Jepara, Bali, and
Jakarta. She awarded Pratitha Adhikarya for the best work (1997).
KETUT GINARSA (Tebayasa, Ubud, Bali, 1953)
He was born in Tebayasa, Ubud, Bali, 1953. He learned painting from I Wajan Djudjul from
1970 to 1973. When participating in and exhibition at Bentara Budaya Jakarta in 1985.
KOEMPOEL SUJATNO (Ngawi, 1912 – Batu, 1987)
He was born in Ngawi, East Java, 1912, with the name of Koempoel Sujatno. He studied
painting from the Dutch painter Gerard Pieter Adolfs and Willem Van Der Does. He was one
of the most productive artists, but since many of his paintings have been damaged, lost
and spread out in countries abroad, his works are estimated only around 2500. Koempoel
was an artist who preferred outdoor objects, anything under the sun, so that almost his
works presented bright colors in harmony that revealed a graceful enchantment. He died
on August 18, 1987 in Batu, East Java because of his severe throat cancer.
KRIJONO (Jakarta, 1951 - 2011)
Krijono was born in Jakarta on 11 July 1951. His father was a collector, so Krijono was
surrounded by works of art. He began studied painting under the guidance of the art
critic Kusnadi. In 1971, Krijono enrolled in the painting program at the Indonesian Fine
Art Academy (ASRI) Yogyakarta. He has held solo exhibitions in Indonesia and aboard. His
works are documented in the books Great Charcoals by Indonesia Artist Krijono (1997)
and Krijono: The Flying Elephant (2000). He was lives and works in Jakarta. He died in
Jakarta on 30 November 2011.
LIEM TJOE ING (Surakarta, 1922-1996)
He was born in Surakarta (Solo), Central Java on 22 June 1922. He was a pupil of the
artist Siau Tik Kwie in his town during the Japanese occupation of the archipelago during
World War II from 1942-1945. He also was a member of both Pelangi Artist Association and
Himpunan Budaya Surakarta (HBS). He was well-known as a sculptor, art designer, and
realist painter. His works reflect a more popular atmosphere, although he also painted
natural panorama, flowers and dances. His works can still be seen on the ceiling of
Mangkunegaran Palace, Surakarta. He abandoned fine art for a decade as he was busy in
politics as a member of Surakarta legislative assembly (1966 through 1971), representing
the Indonesian Christian Party. In 1978, then vice president Adam Malik asked him to
compile a book, later titled Paintings in Adam Malik’s Collection.
LUCIA HARTINI (Temanggung, 1959)
Born in Temanggung, Central Java, 1959. She studied at the Indonesian Fine Arts
Academy (ASRI), Yogyakarta (1976). Her career started in 1983 when she held painting
exhibition together with her husband. Her works are mostly represented from
herself and her experience exploring the time and space. She participated in several
group exhibitions, Edwin’s Gallery, Bali, Santi Gallery, Jakarta, Art Museum Affandi,
Yogyakarta, Malaysia, Tokyo, etc. She received Pratika Adhi Karya awards for the Best
Sketches (1976, 1977), award from Yayasan Kesenian Perak Malaysia (1998), and award
for valuable woman artist (2000). Her works have been in collection of art collectors in
Indonesia and overseas.
LUCIEN FRITS OHL (Palembang, South Sumatra, 1904 – The Hague, 1976)
Born in Palembang, South Sumatra, 1904. He was a self-taught painter whose works were
mostly Indonesian landscape. He also produced paintings of Asian panorama. He was a
painter, watercolorist, and draughtsman in the style reminiscent of the late of GP. Adolfs.
He once lived in Jakarta for a long time then settled in The Hague until he died in 1976.
M. PRAMONO I.R. (Yogyakarta, 1962)
Born in Yogyakarta, 1962. He finished his formal education from the Indonesian Institute of
Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta. He participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Indonesia
and abroad, among others is Singapore and the Netherlands. He received awards of
“Pratita Adhi Karya (1981, 1982), the best painting from ISI Yogyakarta (1986), Affandi
Prize from ISI Yogyakarta (1987) and Phillip Morris Indonesian Art Award (1996).
MARIA TJUI (Pariaman, Sumatra, 1934)
She was born at Pariaman, West Sumatra on May 14, 1934. She started painting when she
was a member of S.I.M (Young Indonesian Artists) under the guidance of S. Soedjojono. In
1961-1963 she studied at the Indonesia Academy of Fine Arts, Yogyakarta in Sculpturing. In
1967-1970 she made a tour of some Asian countries. Returning to Indonesia, she exhibited
her works in several cities of Indonesia.
MULYO GUNARSO (Kediri, E. Java, 1979)
Born in Kediri, 1979. He studied Fine Art at the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta,
2001-2006. He received awards such as The Best Sketch Award from FSR ISI Yogyakarta,
The Best Water Color Painting Seni FSR ISI Yogyakarta, The Best Painting on Nature FSR ISI Yogyakarta, 2004 Winner of Poster Competition UGM, Yogyakarta, 2005 Winner of painting
on environment Jakarta, The best 10 Besar Stamp Design Competition. He has been
actively involved in exhibitions since 2000 in Jakarta, Semarang, Magelang, Yogyakarta,
Kediri, Surabaya and Bali.
NASHAR (Pariaman, 1928-1994)
Born in Pariaman, West Sumatra, October 3, 1928. He studied painting under Affandi and
Sudjojono. He help established the Institut Kesenian Jakarta (IKJ, Jakarta Arts Institute)
where he became a lecturer. In 1979 – 1992 he was a member of Dewan Kesenian Jakarta
(Jakarta Art Committee). He has participated in exhibitions of the Festival of Indonesia
(USA, 1990 – 1992), the Gate Foundation (Amsterdam, Holland, 1993) and several places in
Indonesia. He left his figurative paintings to fully paint in abstract style until his deceased
in April 13, 1994.
NURDIN B.S (Padang, West Sumatra, 1915)
Born in Padang, West Sumatra on October 10, 1915. He studied at I.N.S Kayutanam. After
the Transference of Sovereignty, in 1950 he began to pain under the guidance of Wakidi.
In 1953 he was on the invitation of Sticusa of Amsterdam to visit the Netherlands where
he had a chance of study painting at the Ezeldijk-Jeroel Voskuil in Amsterdam until 1955.
Returning to Indonesia in 1957, he held his solo exhibition in Jakarta. He worked as a
designer for Ratex in 1960. During this period his joint exhibitions with Dr. Moerdowo,
Wiwiek Hidayat and Huang Fong were held. In 1967 he received an Art Award from the
Regional Government of East Java.
NYOMAN GUNARSA (Klungkung, 1944)
Born in Klungkung, Bali, April 15, 1944. He graduated from the Indonesian Fine Arts
Academy (ASRI) in Yogyakarta where he is currently a lecturer in art. He began his career
as painter of models and portraits. Since 1967, active performing solo exhibitions, like
in British Embassy, Jakarta (1967), Arcade Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1971), Blance Gallery,
San Francisco (1991), Blance Gallery, Osaka (1982), 21 Gallery, Singapore (1995), OperaGallery, Paris (1996), and Hamburgische Landesbank, Hamburg (1998). He also participates
in joint-exhibitions in Indonesia and overseas. He received awards from the Pratisara
Affandi Adikarya (1976), in the Biennial Indonesian Art Exhibitions (1878 & 1980) and the
Lempad Prize (1980). His works are in collection by local and abroad collectors.
O.H. SUPONO (Surabaya, 1937 – Bali, 1991)
Born in Surabaya, 1937. He studied painting at the Fine Arts Academy, Surakarta. In 1981,
the Jakarta Academy sponsored his works to be represented in Taman Ismail Marzuki Art
Center. In the past few years, many of his works have been inspired by the greatness of
Borobudur Temple and have gone beyond figurative and abstract themes. His works are in
collection of the Jakarta Arts Council, the Fatahillah Fine Arts Gallery, the National Fine
Arts Gallery, Jakarta and the Fukuoka Art Museum in Japan.
OTTO DJAYA (Rangkas Bitung, West java, 1916 - 2002)
Born in Rangkas Bitung, Banten, West Java on October 6, 1916. During the Japanese
colonialism in Indonesia, he received his army training for officer in the “Pembela Tanah
Air” (Defenders of the country) in Bogor. During the Physical revolution, as a Major in
the Indonesian Army, he took part in the Armed Struggle for the Independence of the
Republic of Indonesia. After the proclamation, Otto had an opportunity to study at the
“Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten” in Amsterdam and at the Faculty of Letters and
Philosophy, University of Amsterdam. He also had an opportunity of joining the study-tour
of the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy and Swiss. Otto was a Vice Chairman of the Art
Section of the Cultural Centre in Jakarta. He joined in the “Exposition le Grand Prix de
Peinture en Monaco” in Monte Carlo and in Biennial Exhibition in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Besides
his one-man exhibitions in Jakarta, Otto often took part in the joint exhibitions in Jakarta
and Melbourne, Australia.
PAUL HUSNER (Basel, Switzerland, 1942)
Born in Basel, Switzerland, 1942. He moved to Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1964,
studied in paintings and graphic art at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (1965 – 1967) and
continued to Rijks Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten (1967 – 1969). He frequently visits
Indonesia especially Bali. He received awards from the Urio Prijs (1969), Willink van Collen
Prijs (1971), Jeanna Bieruma Oosting Prijs (1974) and Arti Medaille (1987). From 1980 – 1988
he was professor at the National Academy of Fine Arts (Rijks Academie voor Beeldende
Kunsten) in Amsterdam where he taught drawing and painting. He held solo exhibitions
and participated in group exhibitions in Europe, USA, Singapore, and Indonesia. His works
are in the collection of the Netherlands state, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, City Council
of Amsterdam, Duta Fine Art Museum, Jakarta, Neka Museum, Bali and private collections
in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, etc. Husner works intensively in Bali since 1997.
POPO ISKANDAR (Garut, 1927 – Bandung, 2000)
Born in Garut, December 17, 1927. He started painting in 1944. He graduated from the
University of Indonesia and Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Besides as a painter
he is also an art observer and writer. In 1980 he received art award from Indonesian
Government. He has participated in many exhibitions in Indonesia as well as overseas. His
works were mostly on animal such as chicken, cat, and tiger. He held his solo exhibitions
at Taman Ismail Marzuki Arts Center, Jakarta (1987, 1992, and 1994), National Gallery,
Jakarta (1999) and participated in group exhibitions at KIAS, USA (1990), The Best of
Indonesia, Jakarta (1997), and Slovenia Gradec (1997).
PRANAGUNG (Solo, 1954)
Born in Solo, 1954. He studied at the School of Fine Art (ASRI) Yogyakarta. At the moment
he started actively participated in many art exhibitions. He also held his exhibition for his
works in Bali and Jakarta.
PUPUK DARU PURNOMO (Yoyakarta, 1964)
Born in Yogyakarta, June 16, 1964. He graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Design, the
Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta. He held solo exhibition at Bentara Budaya,
Yogyakarta (1995). He actively participated in several group exhibitions at Gajah Gallery,
Singapore (1997, 2000), Santi Gallery, Jakarta (1998), H. Widayat Museum, Magelang
(2001, 2002) and Group exhibition in Yogyakarta (2002). He received award as the finalist
of Phillip Morris Art Award (1997).
PUTU WINATA (Denpasar, 1977)
Born in Denpasar, February 27, 1977. Since 1996 he was actively participated in exhibitions
like Kriya Hima FSRD ISI Yogyakarta (1996). He participated in several joint exhibitions
with Dewata Indonesia Gallery, Solo (1997), the Dewata Gallery exhibitions in six museums
in Bali (1999), the FKY XII exhibition in Fort Fredeburg Museum, Yogyakarta (2000), and
the Dewata Indonesia Gallery exhibition in National Gallery, Jakarta.
R. HADI
He came from Semarang. His life is not familiar in public. He is a realist painter. A lot of
his works were kept by collectors in Indonesia.
RUDI SETYADI OB (Bandung, 1971)
Born in Bandung, West Java on 10 July 1971. He likes to paint woman figures, sinces he
was very young and he is one of the ottodidact painters. He paints all his works with a
unique and perfect painting style, from village, women figures to modern women figures,
from eastern to western women from those who are dressed properly and nude ones.
He learned paintings in Bali Art Center, directly guided Mr. Barli Sasmitawinata in his
earlier years, Who later joined with FX harsono group, to get further experience. in 2006
he had joined exhibition in CCF, French cultural Center in Bandung, and his 3 Paintings
were chosen to be exhibited in France, Netherland, Switzerland and Great Britain in an
individual program of the person of the French Cultural Center. In the same year, He also
had an exhibition woth a painter Cusin in Bali Art Center, in a talent finder event where
many young painters participated once of his works was chisen to be one of the best
works in the whole of west Java. Since then, he was involved in many exhibitions among
which are of the National Gallery and Green Gallery, in big other cities in West Java,
Yogyakarta and Surabaya. He is a great admirer of Basoeki Abdullah, Salvador Dali and
the combination of the styles pf the two painters affected his latter works. In the works
of Rudy, all the movements of the figures are captured on his canvas in shadow forms.
RILANTONO (Sukorejo, 1960)
Born in Sukorejo on March 10, 1960. He lived in Gadangan, Sidoarjo, East Java. He studied
at ASRI Yogyakarta. In 1979 until 1988 he active followed the art exhibition in Yogyakarta
and Solo. Since 1990 until 2006 he joined a lot of exhibition, the most in Surabaya.
RUSLI (Medan, 1912 – Jakarta 2005)
Rusli was born in Medan, North Sumatra, 1912. He studied at the Kala Bhawana
Santiniketan University of Rabindranath Tagore, India from 1932 to 1938, and he taught
in 1951 at Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia (ASRI) in Yogyakarta. He joined Seniman Muda
Indonesia (Indonesian Young Artists) and helped established the Seni Rupa Masyarakat
(Art for People Association). In 1955 he performed his solo exhibition at Stedelijk Museum
Amsterdam. His works were exhibited at the Biennale exhibition II in Sao Paolo, Brazil
(1953) and held solo exhibition at Palazzo Brancaccio, Rome, Italy (1954 – 1956). He
passed away in Jakarta on 11 May 2005.
RUSTAMADJI (Surabaya, 1932 – 1990)
Born in Surabaya, East Java, April 16, 1932. In 1946 he started painting under the painter
S. Sudjojono in Sanggar Indonesia Muda (Young Indonesian Artists Association), Madiun. In
1950s he used naturalistic style which afterwards changed to impressionistic. He actively
participated in several exhibitions in Indonesia and abroad. He lived in Surabaya and died
in the year of 1990.
RUSTAMADJI (Klaten, 1921 - 2001)
Born in Klaten on January 19, 1921. He started his career as painter since 1938 as an
autodidact painter. He was joined with Indonesian Young Artist which made by Sudjojono.
His art works showed his skill on natural-realism painting techniques. He was fond
drawing traditional puppet figures while in the third grade of Primary school and copied
photographs. He taught him self to paint in 1938. In, 1948 he moved to Yogyakarta, and
from 1949 to 1955 was a member of Pelukis Rakjat (People’s Painters) group along with
other artist.
S. TOYO (Blitar, 1935 – Malang, 2000)
Born in Blitar, East Java, 1935. He was well known as a through autodidact painter. Since
childhood he like to draw as a hobby with paint a shadow play with leather puppets. He
begin learning the people sketch hero faces, namely: Pangeran Diponegoro, Raden Sentot,
Kyai Modjo, Soekarno (First Presiden RI), Hatta (Vice President), Jendral Sudirman, etc.
He also has created his works on various themes.
SAIMAN DULLAH (Tuban, East Java, 1954)
Born in Tuban, East Java, 9 July 1954. He found great fond of depicting mountainous
landscape in natural way.

SALIM M. (Kroya, Banyumas, Centra Java, 1941)
Born in Kroya, Banyumas, Central Java, 1941. He never had any formal education in
art. He joined with painters in Pasar Seni Jaya Ancol (Ancol Arts Market), Jakarta. His
works are mostly about innocent and joyful children. He received awards from Japan
government twice.
SEN PAO (Surabaya, 1949)
Born in Surabaya on May 8, 1949. Since childhood he was fond of making sketches and got
guidance in drawing form the Chanha Institute in the year 1967. Then, he learned from Mr.
T.Wing in Bali for three years. His first solo exhibition was held at a museum in Bali, then
Bali Beach and Sanur. He participated in several exhibitions in Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bali.
Senpao has been participating in solo and joint exhibition in Indonesia and aboard since
1972. Senpao developed his naturalism out of general artistic perception. His creation, if
viewed from formal perception, gives kaleidoscopic impression. Iconic elements such as
parts of human body as well as religious objects are divided in small units of colors either
in harmony or in contrast with each others. The parts were then integrated in a whole
structure that has its own tones are sometimes realistic/descriptive, and yet sometimes
what is dominant in Senpao’s work is its sense of supernatural in a tone that is dynamic
resulted from the encounter of empty space and crowd, silence and content as well as
reality and dream.
RADEN SOEKARDJI (1880 – 1950)
He beginning painted of 20th century. Many Dutch expatriate interest with his painting, he
was well known as landscape painter, and a stile painting “Mooi India”. His friend like a
R Abdullah Suriosubroto (1878–1914), Wakidi (1889-1979), angd Mas Pringadi(1875-1936).
They are “Mooi Indie”. He painted a great deal of Indonesian nature with tremendous
command of light and shade, image river, jungle and many activity people who lived in
village.
SOETOPO (Yogyakarta, 1931)
Born in Yogyakarta, April 13, 1931. He studied painting at The Indonesian Academy
of Fine Arts (ASRI) Yogyakarta under Hendra Gunawan, Trubus and Soedarso tutelage.
Since 1950, he was actively participated in many exhibitions and handled monumental
works for Hotel Indonesia, Ambarukmo Hotel, Satu Maret Monument, Palagan Ambarawa,
TMII Historical Monument Relief and Satria Mandala Museum, Jakarta. following the
exhibition welcomes the Asian-African Conference in Bandung, 1955. Diversity in Harmony
Exhibition in Yogyakarta, Borobudur International Festival Exhibition at the Museum H.
Widayat, Mungkid, Magelang, 2002. Exhibition “Footsteps” at the Court of Djoko scream,
Yogyakarta, 2003. Art Exhibition “Membaca Dunia Widayat” at Museum H.Widayat,
Mungkid, Magelang, 2004.
SRI HADHY (Purwodadi, 1943)
Born in Purwodadi, Central Java, December 18, 1943. Studied at ASRI Yogyakarta and
Vrije Academie Voor Beeldende Kunsten de Vrije Academia Psycholopis, the Hague
(Netherlands). His international career began when he traveled to South East Asia (1969 –
1972), and then lived in Netherlands (1972 – 1988). Until now, he still active to participate
in exhibitions in Jakarta, Netherlands, Germany, French, Spain, Switzerland, Yugoslavia,
Denmark, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, and United States.
SUDARSO (Purwokerto, 1914 - 2006)
Born in Purwokerto, Central Java, 1914. Affandi was his customer when he was an egg
and milk seller. From that time he was interested in painting and learnt under Affandi
as well as young painters such as Barli, Wahdi, and Hendra. He became a teacher at
the Indonesian Fine Arts Academy (ASRI), Yogyakarta. He had participated in numerous
exhibitions and active in many painters organizations. Now he lives in Sidoarjo, Surabaya.
Solo Exhibition, 1961 to 1969. And he was participated in group exhibition “19 Indonesian
Painter” in Singapore and Malaysia, 1967. And Reunion exhibition painter “Angakatan 45
Bandung” in Bandung,1975. Exhibition of Fine Art “Membaca Dunia Widayat” at Museum
H.Widayat, Mungkid, Magelang, 2004.
SUDJONO ABDULLAH (Yogyakarta, 1911 – 1993)
Raden Soedjono Abdullah was born in Yogyakarta, 1911. He was the son of Abdullah
Suriosubroto, a famous landscape painter and was also the brother of Basoeki Abdullah.
He used to help his father cleaned the pallet from which he found his contenment to be a
painter. He finished his school from HIS – Indonesian Dutch School and worked as a poster
artist for the Rex Theater in Yogyakarta. During the Japanese colonization in Indonesia,
Sudjono went to Parangtritis, Parangkusumo where he continued painting. During the
1970s, Soedjono moved to Kertosono in East Java, where he lived up to his death in the
village of Pisang at Patian Rowo on 2 May 1993.
SUPROBO (Pati, Central Java, 1958)
Born in Pati, Central Java, 1958. He graduated from the Jakarta Interior Design Academy,
Jakarta (1978). He was the son of painter Ngari Mangundihardjo. He held his solo exhibition
in Jepara in 1975 then settled in Jakarta afterwards. He decided to fully engage in art
world in 1995. He extensively participated in numerous group exhibitions since 1977.
Today he lives and works in his gallery in Jakarta.
SUSILO BUDI PURWANTO (Magelang, 1966)
Born in Magelang, 26 July 1966. He graduated from ISI Yogyakarta majoring Fine Art in
1995. He joined several exhibitions among other “Dies Natalis ISI-3” in Yogyakarta (1987),
“Ragam Bahasa Pelukis Muda” in Edwin’s Gallery Jakarta (1999), “Mosaic of Contemporary
Indonesian Fine Art” in Vanessa Art House Jakarta (2004), “People Need The Lord” in
Jakarta (2006), and “A Beautiful Death” in Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta, Malang, Surabaya
and Bali (2007).
TATANG GANAR (Bandung, 1936 – Bandung, 2004)
Born in Bandung, August 19, 1936. He graduated from ASRI Yogyakarta (1961) and lived in
Bandung until now. Since 1965 he was active to participate in solo and joint exhibitions in
Jakarta, Bandung, and Bali. Every year he had exhibition with Papilio Group in Jakarta,
Bandung and Surabaya. In 1994 he had his solo exhibition in Folklore I, TIM, Jakarta and
Folklore II, Topaz Hotel, Bandung.
TATANG KOENTJORO (b.Semarang. Central Java - 1993)
Born in Semarang, Central Java (?). He studied painting under painter Hadi in Semarang.
He received the First Prize for the Book Cover Competition held by the French Embassy
in 1955. He held his solo exhibition in 1952 and participated actively in several group
exhibitions in various cities in Indonesia.
TULUS WARSITO (Sragen, Central Java, 1953)
Born in Sragen, Central Java, 1953. He graduated from Gajah Mada University Yogyakarta.
He was a lecturer of Batik Painting in Brown University, Rhode Island, USA.
UMI DACHLAN (Cirebon, 1942 – Bandung, 2009)
Born in Cirebon1942. She studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at
Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). After graduating in 1968, she became a lecturer
there in 1969. Umi later went on to study at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam,
The Netherlands, from 1977 to 1979. The Artist has participated in many group exhibitions
in Indonesia and Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Jordan, Belgium, the
Netherlands, Denmark and Cape Town in South Africa, including Festival pf Indonesia in
America Touring exhibition in 1990 to 1991, and she has held several solo exhibitions at
Taman Ismail Marzuki art Centre Jakarta in 1977 and 1980, Gallery in Bandung in 1990,
and Andy’s Gallery in Jakarta in 2000. She was guided from the painter, Achmad Sadali
that greatly influenced her works. Most of her works were deeply rooted in religion and
spiritually. She died in Bandung 1 Januari 2009.
UTOMO S. (Karawang, 1958)
Utomo S. was born in Karawang, 1958. He graduated from Institute of Fine Art in Germany
(1982-1986). Since 1986 to 2006 he lived in Germany and held solo exhibitions once a year
at several cities in Germany. Recently he lives in Bandung and participated in several
group exhibitions.
I WAYAN KETIG (Batuan, 1928)
Born in Batuan, in 1928. Learned painting with I Wayan Reneh from Batuan Sukawati.
He started painting under the guidance of painter Rudolf Bonet. He learned to paint
from Made Djata and Wayang Reneh. He painted in black ink on white paper.His strong
character, black and white works won him fame. He died 2008.
WIDAYAT (Kutoarjo, 1919 – Jakarta, 2002)
Born in Kutoarjo, Central Java, 1919. He studied at the Indonesian Fine Art Academy
(ASRI), Yogyakarta and Ceramics and Landscape, Nagoya, Japan (1960). He received BKPM
award (1953), a cultural award from the Indonesian Government (1972), the Best Biennial
Painting, Yogyakarta (1986) and the ASEAN Award, Brunei Darussalam (1993). His works
have been shown throughout Indonesia and abroad. He performed his solo exhibitions
in Yogyakarta (1983), Jakarta (1985, 1990, 1991, 1992, 2000 and participated in joint
exhibition in Japan, Netherlands and United States for KIAS (1990 – 1991).
WILHEMUS JEAN FREDERIC IMANDT
(St. Jansteen, The Netherlands, 1882 – 1967)
Born in St. Jansteen, The Netherlands, 1882. In 1908, he visited Indonesia, where he lived
and worked as a painter and drawing teacher at secondary school. From 1920 - 1925, he
participated in several exhibitions organized by the Bataviasche Kunstkring in Jakarta.
He returned to The Netherlands and stayed there since 1928 - 1935, and then came to
Indonesia again afterward. He finally settled in his home town around 1946 until he died
in 1967.
WILLEM VAN DER DOES (Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 1889 – 1966)
Born in Rotterdam, 20 April 1889. He came to Indonesia ca. 1918 as a civil servant to survey
the country. In this function he traveled all over the archipelago. The artist participated
in several group exhibitions in Jakarta, Medan and Surabaya between 1918 and1939. He
returned to the Netherlands in 1946, where he settled in Zeist. Painter, Illustrator and
draughtsman of harbor scenes, City views, and landscapes, in an accurate impressionistic
style.He died in Zeist, the Netherlands, February 3, 1966.
YOGI SETIAWAN (Magelang, 1974)
Born in Magelang, May 23, 1974. He studied painting at the Indonesian Institute of Arts
(ISI), Yogyakarta and learnt under the direction from painter H. Widayat. He participated
in several exhibitions in Indonesia and overseas, Benteng Vredeburg, Yogyakarta, Nyoman
Gunarsa Museum, Bali (1999), Phillip Morris Art Award, Jakarta, One Gallery, Jakarta
(2000), etc. Some of his works are in the collection of Children of Arts Museum, Chicago,
USA. He received several awards for his paintings among others are the Grand Prize
Winner at the International poster competition, UNFPA, New York, USA (1998) and the
Phillip Morris Art Award from Yayasan Seni Rupa Indonesia (2000).
