CONDITION OF BUSINESS
The conditions of business set up below are information guidance for prospective buyer and seller with any enquiries relating to buying or selling at
the auction. We encourage you to read them wisely and thoroughly.
THE BUYER
Estimated Price
Estimated price is the price range, which reflects the opinion of our
specialist for the price expected to offer at the auction. This should not
be relied on as a statement that this price is either at which the lot
will sell or its value for any other purpose. Estimated prices are based
upon prices recently paid at auction, and the condition of the artworks
including the quality, rarity and history of ownership (provenance).
Reserve Price
The reserve is the confidential minimum price the seller is willing to
accept and below which a lot not be sold.
Buyer’s Premium
Buyers are reminded that the price to be paid will be the sum of the final
bid price plus the buyer’s premium. The rate of buyer’s premium for each
lot is 22 % (twenty two percent) of the hammer price.
BEFORE THE AUCTION
Viewing
Pre-sale viewings are strongly recommended for prospective buyers in
order to examine the artworks thoroughly. Pre-sale viewing is open for
the public at no charge and usually displayed for 2 (two) days prior to
the sale.
Condition Reports
Condition reports are available upon request. They are statements of
opinion and should not be relied on as statements of definitive fact.
Descriptions of property are not warranties and that lot is sold “as is”. All
goods are sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description.
Illustrations in catalogues are for identification only. It is strongly
recommended that prospective buyers inspect and seek any independent
expert advice to satisfy you as to authorship, attribution, authenticity,
genuineness, origin, date, age, provenance or condition of lot.
Registration
If you are planning to participate in the auction, you will need to register
with us at the registration desk, to complete a bidder registration form
and to receive a bidding number to identify you if you are a successful
bidder. Registration can be made during the viewing period or 30 minutes
prior to the sell.
THE AUCTION
Bidding
All artworks are auctioned in consecutive numerical order. Bidding is done
in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) in incremental price raise. The auctioneer
will accept bids from those present in the saleroom or absentee bidders
participating by telephone or by written bid left with TREASURES in
advance. The lot being offered is usually illustrated on a screen.
Bidding Increments
Bidding generally opens below the low estimate and advances in the
following increments:

Absentee/ Written Bids
If you cannot attend the auction in person, you may bid in other ways.
The most common is written bids. Written bids are written instruction
given to TREASURES to bid for you on one or more lots up to a maximum
amount you specify for each lot. There is no charge for this service. If two
or more parties leave identical bids, the first bid received by TREASURES
will take preference. Written bid forms are available 7 days before the
sale and returned to TREASURES within 24 hours before the sale or by fax
to (021) 351 0707.
Telephone Bids
If you cannot attend the auction, TREASURES will execute on behalf of
your bid by telephone. Please make arrangements for this service at least
1 (one) day before the sale. It is advisable for you to leave your maximum
bid, in case you are unable to reach us by phone.
Successful Bids
Successful bidder will be indicated by the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer
after reaching or exceeding the reserve price. TREASURES will record the
bidder number of the buyer. Under the auctioneer’s discretion bidding
may be reopened.
Unsold lots
When a lot fails to sell, the auctioneer will not announce a bidder’s
number. Lots unsold will be returned to the consignor usually after a week
in case there are any post sale offers.
AFTER THE AUCTION
Payment
Payment of purchases should be made within 7 (seven) calendar days.
Please include your paddle number, name, lot number, and total payment
in your bank instruction. If buyers do not make any payment or notice
to TREASURES during the scheduled time, they will be considered as
withdrawing.
Collection of Goods
Goods can be collected only when payment has cleared and been received
by TREASURES. Due to space constraints, TREASURES requires that
purchases and unsold property be collected within 7 (seven) days. If the
goods remain after 7 (seven) days TREASURES reserves the right to cause
the artworks to be stored at the expense of the purchaser.
Storage and Insurance
TREASURES provides insurance cover for sold items for a maximum of
7 (seven) days after the date of the sale. If the goods have not been
removed by the deadline, the goods will be deposited at warehouse and
all storage transportation and other associated costs as well as risk shall
be at the purchaser’s responsibility.
THE SELLER

Mochtar Apin
Born in Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, 1923. He graduated from the Bandung Institute
of Technology (ITB) in 1951 and continued his study of art and handicrafts in Amsterdam
finished in 1953. Besides painting, he also created graphic works. His works have been
exhibited in many countries. He was among the first who benefited from a Dutch formal
education during the colonial period and was able to acquire a strong intellectual basis
for producing modern art. From a very young age, he was able to nurture his artistic bent
through special instruction from Dutch art teachers. He went on to pursue art at the
Kunstnijverheid School in Amsterdam, and the Ecole Nationale Suprieure des Beaux Arts
in Paris as well as the Deutsche Akademie der Kuenste in Berlin. Due to his extensive art
studies, Mochtar Apin became proficient in a variety of techniques. With such knowledge,
he was well equipped to debate on the role of art in Indonesia. In the Indonesian art
world, Mochtar Apin’s diverse range of interests and unique versatility in style has left
behind an artistic legacy that has held the interest of art connoisseurs to this day.
Mochtar Apin’s naked painting presents paradox to apply the concept of representations.
He does not represent reality for conclusion like in the work of landscape and realism.
His return of representation exactly deconstructs the concept of representation. All his
nude figures in his paintings did mean that he directly bring the model to the location. His
nude figure was not a representation at all, in fact, it is only Apin’s imaginary. It is unlikely
the culture for Indonesian women posing half naked in public. The reality in the picture is
none other than the imaginary reality.

Rudolf Bonnet
Born in Amsterdam, 1895. He studied art at the Hendrick de Keijser-school,
the Rijksschool voor Kunstnijverheid and the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. He
visited Indonesia in 1936 and stayed in Bali from 1931 – 1941. He helped
establish the Museum Puri Lukisan and together with Walter Spies founded the
Pita Maha Artist’s Association (1936). His works are amongst the collections of
former President Soekarno, the Neka Museum, the Agung Rai Fine Art Gallery,
the Rijksmuseum Kroller Muller Otterlo and the Sinerg Museum in Laren.
During his existence in “Pita Maha” (the creative center for the modernization
of Balinese art before the War), a painter society of young Balinese artists, he
had successfully maintained a high artistic level of its member producing work
of high quality.
Bonnet’s figures are always unique and captivating. He has an extraordinary
ability to portray impressive faces in a conventional way. Bonnet revealed a
distinct interest in describing the anatomy of human body. He preferred to
interpret his portraiture as a unit, as a single portrayal of a race. The present lot
features one of his numerous portrait paintings of woman. The work is done in
his typical sensitivity skill as a draughtsman yet simple but elegant. His subjects
are portrayed in an impressive way and full of compassion.

WIDAYAT
(Kutoarjo, 1919 – Jakarta, 2002)

Oil on canvas: 103 x 164 cm
Signed, lower right:. WDT
Provenance:
Private collection of the artist’s family
RP 110.000.000 - 150.000.000
Born in Kutoarjo, Central Java, 1919. He studied at the Indonesian Fine
Art Academy (ASRI), Yogyakarta and Ceramics and Landscape, Nagoya,
Japan (1960). After some military training, he took the apprentice study
at the Indonesia Art Academy Yogyakarta under painters Hendra
Gunawan, Sudarso, Trubus, and Kusnadi. Then Widayat met a Bandung
Painter, Kartono Yudhokusumo from whom he got direct influence of
decorative style in painting. He received BKPM award (1953), a cultural
award from the Indonesian Government (1972), the Best Biennial
Painting, Yogyakarta (1986) and the ASEAN Award, Brunei Darussalam
(1993). His works have been shown throughout Indonesia and abroad.
He performed his solo exhibitions in Yogyakarta (1983), Jakarta (1985,
1990, 1991, 1992, 2000 and participated in joint exhibition in Japan,
Netherlands and United States for KIAS (1990 – 1991).
Widayat’s works show an immense variety of stories about nature, myth,
and ritual. They are rich in content, texture, and technique. Widayat’s
preference for the simplification and distortion of natural forms had a
profound influence on many Indonesian artists. His magic decorative
style is a personal visual language mostly derived from folk motifs. He
focuses on inner structure rather that outward appearance.
The present lot is an early work of Widayat with very rare objects. It
features the village of Kintamani sits on the rim of the great volcanic
caldera of mount Gunung Batur. The climate is cold, with thick clouds
rolling in almost daily in the late afternoon. The colors in this painting
reflect the misty atmosphere in addition to the bleakness of the landscape
with blackened lava flows from eruptions of the active volcano.

Oil on canvas: 66 x 95 cm

Abdul Aziz was born in Purwokerto, Central Java on March 27, 1928 and showed precocious
artistic talent from childhood. His first Diploma was in Social Sciences from Gajah Mada
University, after which he studied Art at the Indonesian Fine Arts Academy (ASRI) in Yogyakarta.
Due to his exceptional talent he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Academia di Belle
Arti in Rome in 1958, where he was awarded two Diplomas, in Painting and in Decoration. On
his return to Indonesia in 1965 he lectured in Fine Art at Udayana University and established
his studio in Ubud Bali.
Abdul Aziz is now regarded as one of Indonesia’s greatest artists of the 20th Century. Originally
from Central Java but a resident of Bali for the last part of his life, Aziz was widely known and
highly sought after for his realistic paintings of village scenes includeS beautiful women, depicted
singly or in groups, and portraits both painted and sculpted. Yet his oeuvre stands out as more
of an individual contribution to Indonesian art history than most, belonging in a class with artists
who are continuously referred to as the ‘greats’: those individual artists that Western-trained or
influenced art writers found to be the most original and innovative of their time.

Born in 1968. He was graduated from the Institute of Fine Art (ISI)
Yogyakarta. He had lived for 2 years in Switzerland to continue his study
and working. He has participated in several exhibitions in Indonesia and
overseas. He had his solo exhibition in Semarang Gallery (2002). He
received awards as the first winner of PMIAA, a finalist for Asean Art
Award (2000) in Singapore and Indofood Art Award, Jakarta (2002). Now
he lives in Bantul, Yogyakarta. The exhibition at the furnace gallery (15 –
30 May 2010) was Budi Haryono aka Ubrux’ first exhibition in Europe, a
breakthrough after his three earlier solos at Semarang Gallery, Bentara
Budaya Jakarta, and iPreciation gallery in Singapore.
Budi Ubrux loves to create contemporary realist artworks by exploring
newspaper as a true-lies media. This phenomenon is put into canvas in
the form of human being with skin from newspaper. Figures wrapped
from top to toe in newspaper appeared suggesting a futuristic imagination
of what could happen in our uncertain future. Bandaged, swathed and
tied, the faceless sculptural figures are able to lead the imagination in wild
proximity. Since then, art observers and collectors became interested in
his works.
