International & Easy access flight Connections Excellent Hotel Infrastructure Professional Service Cultural & Historical Capital of Spain Extensive shopping district Triangle of Art And much more…read on! 05.03.2014 Page 5 Madrid is the capital of Spain! Such a self-evident statement has a much wider-ranging whose underlying multiple significance, implications have moulded the city's singular personality. Madrid is the decision-making centre of the Spanish government, the place national powers have their headquarters, where and the where different the major de facto companies, multinationals, banks and financial markets are located. It is also the geographic centre of the Iberian Peninsula (the exact centre is Cerro de Los Angeles, 14 km. outside Madrid), and the hub of all of Spain's national highways and international throughways. The diversity of its neighbourhoods and buildings reminds us at every step of the city's dual role in the political and economic spheres. Its historic monuments are the heritage of a city that has wielded administrative power for more than four centuries. Alongside them, glass-and concrete-clad skyscrapers encase the heartbeat of an increasingly important local economy, whose weight is growing both at the Spanish and international levels. Within the territory of the Madrid region, whose total surface area is approximately 8000 km, two other major local powers live side-by-side: the government of the Autonomous Region and the capital's City Council. Madrid is one of the 17 autonomous regions into which Spain was divided under the Constitution of 1978; unlike most of the others, it has but one province. Its population tops 5 million, or 12% of the national total. Its surroundings and its location have shaped Madrid. It is a city in the centre not only of the region, but also of the country. Perhaps this location is one of the determining factors in its status as the capital, as the political, business, economic and transport centre- all which help to explain why this city has always been a potpourri of different peoples and interests, both historically and in our times. Geographically, the Madrid region has a diversity that might astonish someone who only knows the city and its outskirts. The proximity of the Sierra de Guadarrama offers a variety of landscapes that break up the monotony of the Castilian meseta, and make Madrid a region of forests, hidden valley's and peaks more than 2500 m high, a surprising contrast to the great city and its far-flung suburbs. 05.03.2014 Page 6 Climate - winter in Madrid is long and cold and then a very hot summer suddenly bursts onto the scene. For this reason, spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons in the city, when its colours, its high blue sky, and its temperatures are at their best. However, over the last few years the climate has changed, and it is no longer possible to pinpoint the arrival of the hot and cold seasons. In the spring, Madrid's temperatures range from 7º to 19º C, with an average of 27 rain days; n summer, temperatures range from 16º to 31º, with 15 rainy days; in autumn, the city enjoys even better temperatures than in spring, ranging 8º to 21º, with 17 rainy days. Lastly, in winter, with an average of 24 days of rain, temperatures go from 0º to 11ºC. Transportation - Madrid is the great crossroad and transport centre of the Iberian Peninsula. To maintain its rhythm of transport of visitors and goods, Madrid has a transportation network that is continually being upgraded. Whatever the means of transport chosen-air, railroad or throughway- the region is perfectly linked to the rest of the Country, as well as enjoying excellent foreign connections. As to the city itself, it has an extensive network of underground stations (Known as the Metro) commuter trains and buses, as well as more than 15,000 taxis. Opening hours - Most stores in Madrid open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., close for lunch and the open again from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., from Monday to Saturday (although some shops close Saturday afternoons). Usual banking hours is 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Banks also open on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., while saving banks (cajas de ahorros) open Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.. During the week of the San Isidro festival for the patron saint of Madrid (third week of May), banking hours are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Department stores and shopping malls do not close at midday, remaining open from 10 a.m. to 9 or 10 p.m., from Monday to Saturday. They are currently only allowed to open a certain number of Sundays and holidays. Most restaurants open for lunch from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., and for dinner from 9 to 11 p.m. 05.03.2014 Page 7 AIRPORTS MADRID BARAJAS The Main International Airport – most International carriers fly here! Depending in which hotel the guests are staying the tour can start from different points of Madrid. The tour can begin, for instance at the Plaza Santa Ana, then Puerta del Sol and reaching the Plaza Mayor. The Plaza Mayor was built in the 17C by King Philip III and is today meeting place for artists, tourist and Madrilènes. The atmosphere is lively due to the variety of “Mesones” (Tapas Bars). A stop can be organised for refreshments. Our next stop will be La Plaza de la Villa. On this square, there are 3 important buildings: Torre de Lujanes, built in mudéjar style, Casa de Cisneros in renaissance style and the Town Hall. After this, if the legs as still willing, we can move on to the Church of San Francisco el Grande which keeps insides paintings of Goya. TOUR 4: FLAMENCO LESSONS Flamenco is a lifestyle and art form, and is also an individual way to express our feelings which is part of our cultural roots. Flamenco dance is a unique cultural expression from Spain, growing on ancient roots, and as already said, expressing all the passion of human emotions: from pain and suffering to joy and exuberance. This show will show various different aspects of flamenco. It will be a full and enjoyable immersion in the Spanish culture. Lessons will be with a specialized Flamenco dance teacher 05.03.2014 Page 16 TOUR 5: SANGRIA WORKSHOP Sangria is an alcoholic beverage of Spanish origin, made with red wine and fruits (including citrus). Discover how to achieve authentic sangria: synonymous with celebration as Spanish combined! We advise you to accompany the tasting the sound of Spanish guitar... TOUR 6: WINE TASTING Wine tasting is the sensory examination and evaluation of wine. While the practice of wine tasting is as ancient as its production, a more formalized methodology has slowly become established from the 14th century onwards. Modern, professional wine tasters (such as sommeliers, use a constantly-evolving formal terminology which is used to describe the range of perceived flavours, aromas and general characteristics of a wine. TOUR 7: SPANISH GUITAR MAKING: – Spanish instrument by excellence The guitars made by Arturo Sanzano have been played by the most experienced hands and in the most famous concerts. Since 1984 the “Arturo Sanzano” guitars have been played by the most experienced hands and in the most renowned contests, where this guitar constructor is usually part of the jury. Sanzano regularly gives Courses of Active Construction for Concert guitars as well as Romantic and Flamenca. Apart from being one of the founders of the prestigious “Comillas Guitar Course”, he has his own guitar contest in the “Martín Códax’s International Music Festival”. The human voice is the most beautiful instrument of all, but it is the most difficult to play – Richard Strauss. The first consideration is the body size of the guitar to be made. Although the guitar is today more-or-less "standard" in body size, different luthiers vary their measurements slightly. The actual body of the guitar is constructed inside a mould and is probably the most important part of the luthier's (and amateur guitar maker's) equipment. 05.03.2014 Page 17 8. Go Cars; Go Cars are an entirely new way to explore a city. These nifty yellow convertibles talk to you and take you on a city tour you'll never forget. The advanced navigational capabilities of the GPS deliver an informative tour, high-lighting specific locations throughout Madrid as you drive. Just follow the friendly audio directions and relax. traditional tour GoCar Unlike gives a you complete autonomy over where, what and in what order you see sights and also how long you spend at any given point. The cars have a personality and a sense of humour, telling the stories that bring a city to life while guiding the way with clear driving directions Lunch will/can be held either at various downtown restaurants (groups of 100 pax) or all together at the prestigious ZEN MARKET for which has a total capacity of 380 pax at any one time all: This restaurant is located at the Real Madrid stadium offering tables overlooking the stadium/pitch. The food is a fusion of Asian cuisine including Chinese, sushi and sashimi, without forgetting their famous Pecking Duck. The restaurant serves both Chinese (different regional dishes) and Japanese food, and the menu is wideranging. The decor is attractive and the ambience lively with both business and leisure clients. The imperial decor and giant statue of Mao Tse Dung creates an unusual combination of fine dining at a sports arena. We can offer PM tours also or free time 05.03.2014 Page 18 Evening transfer for a wild TAPAS evening at the Mercado San Miguel: MERCADO SAN MIGUEL The lively and attractive market of San Miguel, just off the Calle Mayor and in the immediate vicinity of the Plaza Mayor, is an example of progressive municipal development in 19th C. Madrid. The colourful market, with its stalls laid out in regular rows on two levels, was originally constructed in 1835 and was completed in its present form in 1915 (architect Alfonso Dubé). It replaced the picturesque but unhygienic confusion of foodstuffs and other wares on the old market square. Recently the iron structure of the market building has been fitted with glass walls to provide protection against both heat and cold. Here we can private the entire market to ensure we all get some great TAPAS served from many different stands. We also suggest to add some light entertainment such as; TUNA BAND This is one of the most typical type of Spanish bands and it is composed by a group of university students. Every faculty of every university in Spain has its own tuna band. The origin of this comes from the middle ages and it was one way for students without many incomes to eat by performing in taverns in exchange for food. That's why their emblem is a fork and a spoon crossed. Nowadays these guys have always something to eat but this way they make some money for their expenses. Their basic instruments are the guitar, the bandurria (a small, high-pitched guitar-like instrument that usually plays melody), the accordion and, of course, the pandereta (a small tambourine). Most of their songs are about women, drinking or being from a certain region of Spain (or Portugal or Latin America, as the case may be). Return transfers and overnight 05.03.2014 Page 19 DAY 3: After a full buffet breakfast, we suggest a full day in TOLEDO: Toledo is set 70 kms (44 miles) south of Madrid. The whole town is a national monument. As you walk through surrounded by the mass Gothic of and tiny streets, Renaissance buildings you can 'feel' the history. The historic centre has churches, synagogues and palaces. Indeed it is an immense living museum housing some of Spain’s best artistic treasures. Upon arrival, we will stop at the unique estate Cigarral de Santa Maria, created in 1997 by Adolfo Munoz, one of Spain’s most celebrated chef’s whose main restaurant is located in Toledo. Composed of just 4 hectares under vine, Cigarral Santa Maria is located in one of only four urban vineyards in the world (the vines are actually in the city!) The estate is also unique in that it is centered on Syrah, a variety that is usually only a component of the final blend in Spain. The building itself was built using the bricks of a warehouse of the XIX century and located on a hill with beautiful views of Toledo. With four thousand stocks of young vineyard and stunning views, this is the perfect location with its gardens and outside terrace overlooking Toledo. In 1997 Adolfo Munoz won the Marqués de Desio National Gastronomy Award for best restaurateur in Spain. He is a staunch defender of Olive Oil, its culture and properties and the Mediterranean diet in general and this is reflected in his work. Here we will be welcomed by Adolfo himself to see how he elaborates his local wines, taste the wines accompanied by ham/cheese, and enjoy the beautiful views of Toledo. We will proceed with a Special wine tasting of 2 wines followed by some olive tasting of 3 different olives grown in Castilla. We will then make our way to the Old City, where in smaller groups of 25 pax, we will visit the Cathedral, a Synagogue and the chapel of St. Tome which houses the "The burial of Count Orgaz", masterpiece painted by El Greco. 05.03.2014 Page 20 05.03.2014 Page 21 05.03.2014 Page 22 We will return to the Cigarral for lunch overlooking the City of Toledo As a gift ideas, it is also possible to have a wonderful gift box comprising of; Bottle of Pago del Ama wine, Castilla La Mancha Safron, Bottle of Olive Juice and a Red Marzipan box Late afternoon, we will return back to our hotel Evening: MASIA DE JOSE LUIS La Masia is a distinguished restaurant belonging to the group Jose Luis. This is the celebrate various ideal your areas event the setting with to the restaurant offers. As well as the main restaurant offering exquisite Mediterranean cuisine, you will also find private banqueting rooms, one which is designed by Pascua Ortega, and an ample garden of over 2000SQM. Return transfers and overnight 05.03.2014 Page 23 DAY 4: After a full buffet breakfast, we suggest a full day in SEGOVIA: SEGOVIA, a charming town where you will see one of the best monuments left behind by the Romans on the whole of the Iberian Peninsula - Segovia's incredible Aqueduct. Built in the time of Augustus, it has one hundred and eighteen arches and is 10 miles (16 kilometres) in length out of which there are only 2,388 feet (728 meters) visible. Segovia is also famous for its Alcazar, a beautiful and world famous 11th Century Medieval Castle, located over a magnificent rock. Step back in time and imagine the medieval tournaments and heroic knights who once walked where you will. It is also supposed to have inspired the Disney Castle. You will be captivated by the beautiful view of the Alcazar on your visit to the Church of Vera Cruz. Located on the outskirts of Segovia, separated from the town by the Eresma River, the Church of Vera Cruz was founded by the order of the Templar Knights in the 12th Century. The architectural style represents a transition period between Roman and Gothic. Take some time to appreciate its outstanding octagonal floor. You will also see the Cathedral which is the last great Gothic Cathedral to be built in Spain. It was started in the 16th century and not completed until the end of the 17th century Lunch can be served for all at CANDIDO’s: It lies at the foot of Segovia's Roman aqueduct. Mesón de Cándido is one of the oldest and most renowned restaurants in the whole city. There is an open-air terrace in summer which is blessed with magnificent views of the aqueduct. It has a large wine cellar with over 350 Spanish Denomination of Origin wines. Cándido is internationally famed for its food and its ambience. 05.03.2014 Page 24 FINCA LOS JARALES: Closing Dinner Only 35 minutes north of the city one can enjoy a healthy day in the country. Sherry pourers using the famous glass on a stick or “Venencias” is the perfect way to break the ice for any group. A country PAELLA & BBQ meats Gala dinner combined with an impressive Horse show using black horses at the bullring are just some ideas you can do at the Hacienda for a complete different experience. The Hacienda “Los Jarales” offers the opportunity to enjoy that very special evening and dinner. Upon arrival a Spanish welcome drink is served (depending on the weather), in the wine cellar or on the terrace. Our suggestion is to use the typical Sherry pourers or “veneciadors” who use a long stick to pull the sherry out of its cask and poor it from a high distance into a glass without spilling one drop. On long tables typical tapas such as cheese and cured Spanish ham are offered. Beverages offered include sherry, beer, sangria, wine and soft drinks. Then guests are invited to go to the Haciendas arena and enjoy a private horse show. Mr. Justo Nieto, ex-bullfighter and the owner of “los Jarales”, will perform a horse show (dressage) using four of his horses accompanied with music. Additionally a “Capea” or mock bullfight can be arranged. The bullfighters will show their skills using a baby bull. Of course without bloodshed. We will then invite Guests to participate under the supervision of the professional bullfighters. 05.03.2014 Page 25 To keep the traditional country atmosphere we suggest a BBQ & Paella dinner. Since the Hacienda is yours exclusively, the program can be adapted to your personal or corporate needs At dessert, a private FLAMENCO show will be performed for all and who knows.. maybe even some participation for those who need to dance!
