Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church 201 South College Street Smithville, TN 37166 Newsletter Volume 15 No 3 March 1, 2016 Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church Vol 15 No. 3 All Around Us While driving home I felt a pain across my chest and numbness down my left arm. At first I thought it was from working so many hours that week, I’d just finished my second double shift in a row. When I got home the pain got worse. I just wanted to get some sleep and not spend hours awake in the hospital E.R. to be told- “All I need is rest.” Finally I told my husband about the pain and he made me go. I took a pillow and laid down in the back seat while he drove me there. By this time I couldn’t move my left arm. They run an EKG and there must of been a dozen people check to make sure the wires were right and the settings OK. They called a heart specialist down to look at me and he referred me to another Cardiologist and more tests. I told my husband to go ahead and pick our child up from pre- school, I was in the best place I could be and not to worry about leaving me for a little while to pick her up. We got our little girl a Bible story book last year and each night I have to read to her from that book before she will go to bed. She knows them all by heart. They did a heart cath and rushed me right in to the O.R. It seems I had a blockage that couldn’t wait. The O.R. is kept very cool and the hands of all the nurses were like ice as they got me ready. The drugs were starting to work and I was half out of it. I knew a few of the nurses since I also was a nurse working there in the hospital, but on a different unit. My head was turned the other way when I felt a warm hand take hold of mine. I turned to see who had such warm hands. The operating mask covered their face and all I could see was the eyes, but you could tell it was a man. He cupped my hand in both of his and said; “Don’t worry- your one of us and you will be taken good care of.” My husband returned and was lead to the waiting room outside of the O.R. He was told all the risks factors and what chances I had, the odds were 60/40 and not in my favor. They said it may take 2 or 3 hours to do the surgery. The Dr. will come out and let you know more after the surgery is completed. Our child waited there also. Hours later a man came out of the O.R. doors and told my husband that everything went well and I would make a full recovery. He said; “She is one of us.” Then he hugged my husband and turned to our daughter & placed his right hand on her head and said; “Bless you.” My dear husband thought it odd, but nothing more at the time because he thought, that maybe the Dr. knew me since I worked there. Until the Dr. that done the surgery came out about thirty minutes later and told my husband things looked promising. My husband said; Yes I know, he already told us the good news. She said; I’m her Dr. what “He” told you this? My husband said; I thought he was her Dr? She said; Your wife was the only patient in surgery and there are no men working this shift in the O.R. right now and I just now finished with her surgery, thirty minutes ago we didn’t know if things were going to be OK or not. Security was called and attempts to find this man came up empty handed. No one remembered seeing this man any where around the O.R or the waiting area. But we will never forget seeing him or the words he spoke. Our daughter tells this story the best, about the Angel that- “Healed Mommy- Hugged Daddy- and Blessed me!” If your birth date and/or anniversary have been omitted, please check with the Church Secretary March Birthdays 03/04 Thea Tippin 03/06 Glenda Wilkes 03/06 Luke Jenkins 03/07 Kayla Adams 03/07 Barry Muller 03/09 David Graham 03/09 Andy Rogers 03/10 Evan Reid 03/10 Kaitlyn Cantrell 03/13 Sharon Evans 03/14 Leslie Parsley 03/14 Austin Poss 03/16 Vickie Yost 03/18 Lucas Phillips 03/18 Zachary Maxwell 03/18 Sharon Cross 03/19 Jack David 03/21 Theresa Bell 03/24 Kristen Parsley 03/24 Katherine Parsley 03/24 Ryan Young 03/27 Jake Ramsey 03/27 Brooke Snyder 03/28 Sue Hill 03/28 Austin Hale 03/29 Lindy Jenkins Anniversaries 03/10 Mr. & Mrs. Billy Miller 03/18 Mr. & Mrs. Anthony Cantrell 03/21 Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Brown CPWM March 15th Fellowship Hall Light Lunch provided Guest Speaker— Easy Tithe Is Here CPC Day Trip Thursday—March 3rd Van leaves at 9:00 a.m. Blood Mobile Tuesday—March 1st 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Our people may be in Florida for the winter but they are still doing mission work! Acolytes for March Jake Ramsey Evan Reid Cameron Miller Jack Reid One Sunday morning at a small southern church, the new pastor called on one of his older deacons to lead in the opening prayer. The deacon stood up, bowed his head and said,"Lord, I hate buttermilk." The pastor opened one eye and wondered where this was going. The deacon continued, "Lord, I hate lard." Now the pastor was totally perplexed. The deacon continued, "Lord, I ain't too crazy about plain flour. But after you mix 'em all together and bake 'em in a hot oven, I just love biscuits." "Lord help us to realize when life gets hard, when things come up that we don't like, whenever we don't understand what You are doing, that we need to wait and see what You are making. After you get through mixing and baking, it'll probably be something even better than biscuits. Amen. Romans 8:28 ~And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.~ Tyler Connell with the Ekballo Project has been touring college campuses around the U.S., sharing stories and video from his most recent trip to Middle East, where he documented a dramatic move of God among Muslims, particularly with refugees. In the last few months, he and his team visited Harvard, MIT, Iowa State, Clemson, and the University of Georgia, among other campuses. "In every stop we saw the presence of Jesus break in to these college campuses and touch students, with bodies healed, people saved, and people giving their lives to serve in the mission field," Connell exclaims. College students are amazed to learn what God is doing in Iraq and the surrounding region. "Jesus is moving in these Middle East nations," he says. "Many there are disillusioned and broken and just want to know the truth. Now more than ever there is a harvest among Muslims that has not been seen in history." His first film chronicles a young missionary named Daniel (whose name has been changed for security reasons), 24, originally from Vermont. Two years ago Daniel moved to the Middle East to work with Syrian refugees. "They go house to house and visit these Muslim families and sit with them and talk with them and find out their names, their stories, and love them. As trust is built, they begin to open up about the Gospel." One afternoon Daniel walked into a white tent with a family of eight people inside. "Hi I'm Daniel and I'm here to tell you about Jesus," he announced. He wasn't quite prepared for their reaction. "The family freaked out, they looked at each other, almost turned white. The father was excited, yelling." What's going on? Daniel wondered. The interpreter explained that the night before Daniel's visit the whole family was sitting in their tent having tea together and a man in white opened the door to their tent and stood at the entrance. The man was glowing. "Hello, My name is Jesus and I am sending a man tomorrow named Daniel to tell you more about me." Then he disappeared. So when Daniel arrived at their doorway and told them his name, they were completely undone. "They asked him to tell them more about Jesus and he gave then the Gospel and the whole family gave their lives to Jesus," Connell reports. The father had been a part of the Free Syrian Army. "He had known bloodshed. He was a devout Muslim. This man and his family are now planting underground churches and are seeing a harvest among Muslims." Recently the father was dismayed by a large cell phone bill and he asked his 15-year-old daughter about it. "It's because I'm telling all our relatives in Saudi Arabia about Jesus," she said. "We felt God told us to go to these places, the dark places, and capture what He is doing thru the lives of missionaries that have given their lives, left everything they had here to live overseas. We follow them with our camera and capture what God does and show it on college campuses to ignite students to live for something bigger than themselves." This is an excerpt from “Charisma News” In case you missed the Birthday Bash, here are photos of some of the tables. I will put more in upcoming Newsletters. CPWM met Tuesday, February 16, 2016, with 19 present. A delicious lunch was served by Natalie and Dinah and enjoyed by all attendees. President Lenora Davis opened the meeting. Old business: The birthday bash was a huge success. Some say it was the best one yet with plenty mouthwatering food. New business: There were a few books donated to our library by Carol Hodges. Discussion was held on checking the kitchen for sufficient stock. Linda and Diane have volunteered to initiate a list. The CPW ladies will wait until Barbara returns from session to advise on next steps for setting up committees where the kitchen is concerned. Due to health reasons Lenora has advised the ladies effective May 1 st she will no longer be the President of SCPCW. She is asking we go in prayer for a volunteer lady to assume this position. The Treasurer and Secretary positions remain unchanged. Marie and Carol will host in March, Linda and Sammye have volunteered to host the April meeting. Marie presented the treasurer’s report with detail donations and an approximate balance of $464.48. Our guest speaker was President, Marsha Darrah, DeKalb Animal Coalition (DAC). Marsha presented the women information on the upcoming facility that has a one hundred year lease capable of accommodating fifty animals at a time. Its location is four acres behind Tenneco. The DAC has been hosting fund raisers to support this effort. Their latest fund raiser is “buy a brick” campaign. They are partnering with New Leash on Life Spay and Neuter. The community can get involved by donations of cash, goods for sale in their resale store located at 110 Walnut Street in downtown Smithville; by volunteering to help at the resale store; and there will be many opportunities as they progress toward completion of the building. Board meets first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the top floor of City Hall. The community is invited to attend. The ground breaking is tentatively scheduled in April 2016. The next SCPCW meeting is scheduled for March 15 th. Submitted by SCPCW Secretary, Dinah Ross. Birthday Bash 2016
