November 2015 - Teurlings Catholic High School
THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER FOR PARENTS OF
TEURLINGS CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
From Our Principal...
T
he Administration and Advisory Council are charged with the task of setting tuition and fees for the upcoming
school year in November. Once prepared, the proposed budget requires the approval of our Chancellor and the
TCH Board of Pastors. With the unpredictability of the national economy, personal finances are on everyone’s
mind. Administrators across the country struggle with this question: How do we provide quality Catholic education
without depleting families’ limited financial resources?
Tuition increases annually because expenses increase annually. Teacher and staff salaries and benefits account for 77.2%
of the total budget. Diocesan officials have told schools to prepare for a 5-10% increase in health care costs. We also
anticipate cost increases in fuel, electricity, and paper products as our campus and structures increases in size.
The Administration and Advisory Council have accepted the charge to be stewards for the school. We will try to keep
tuition as moderate as possible to meet the resources of our families, but tuition will increase every year to meet the
financial needs of the school.
As we enter the season of Thanksgiving and Advent, many opportunities exist for our TCH family to become engaged in
our community in hopes that some joy and happiness is brought into the lives of many who have felt only sorrow and
sadness. On Monday, November 2nd, our students and teachers will celebrate Mass for All Soul’s Day. Names of loved
ones will be placed on the altar in the Chapel of the Blessed Mother Theresa of Calcutta here on the TCH campus
throughout the month of November. They will be included in our prayers, rosaries, private meditations and on the First
Friday Adoration. We will also have a special Veteran’s Day Remembrance display in the courtyard beginning on
November 11th. On Thanksgiving Day, the sophomore class will sponsor the annual TCH Feeds the Hungry event. Our
cafeteria will open for students, faculty, and parent volunteers to cook and deliver a traditional turkey and dressing meal
with all the fixings to the hungry in our area. Last year 500 meals were delivered.
On November 12th, TCH will welcome several hundred eighth graders
from feeder and other schools for TCH Day. Students and parents will
be invited to attend our Open House on the campus beginning at 4:00
p.m. The final tour group begins at 6:00 p.m. Our Admissions Director
Maria Hanes does an outstanding job preparing for these events, but we
could not do it without the help of our students, faculty, and parent
volunteers.
All of us at TCH must be able to articulate our mission and purpose
clearly and we must also be able to match our beliefs with our actions.
The dedication and skill of our learned community, coupled with the
enthusiasm and support of our parent groups is the basis of the TCH
spirit. It is a place of joy where people teach and learn in a kinship of
shared work, play, prayer, creativity, and achievement. As we look to
the future, that spirit will remain vital
to Teurlings Catholic.

Bruce Baudier - Assistant Principal
We Trust - We Trust - We Trust
If you ask your son/daughter if they feel “safe” on
the Teurlings campus during the school day, I think that
you would find that, to a person, students feel “safe” - safe
from physical harm. Also, if/when teasing crosses the line
there are faculty members to whom students can go to
have the situation addressed quickly.
What about when money and personal items are
stolen from book sacks, gym lockers, or school lockers?
That scenario unfortunately, does occur on the TCH
campus. Trust we do, often, at TCH. But, we obviously
have those who steal from others which causes “trust” to
be diminished. Please speak with your son/daughter
about theft issues and remind them to place their
valuables in a safe place during the school day, especially
in locker rooms and P.E. dressing rooms. Also, if they have
any information on the stolen items to please see Mr.
Baudier.
“A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND
YOUNG PEOPLE”
Diocesan policy mandates that any employee or volunteer having
contact with minors must complete training required by the “Safe
Environment for the Protection of Children and Young People.”
This includes teachers, coaches, substitutes, volunteers,
chaperones, or anyone else having contact or working with the
students. Once you have attended the Initial Education class,
you must visit www.virtus.org to take the Continuing Ed
class on a yearly basis.
This program creates awareness regarding child and sexual abuse
facing our society today. For the safety of our students, please
help us to enforce this policy. If you have any questions, contact
Tisha Collado (TCH Safe Environment Coordinator) at
235-5711 Ext. 261.

ACADEMICS
Marty Heintz - Assistant Principal
Absences and Makeup Work
According to state guidelines, students may not miss more than 14 days of instruction in any course and receive credit for the
course, regardless of the grade earned by the student. As a state accredited and approved school, TCHS adheres to this guideline.
Exceptions for extended hospitalization and surgery must be approved by the Academic Assistant Principal in accordance with
proper documentation as required by the state.
Our handbooks states: Students are responsible for initiating and completing makeup work in any/all classes missed, regardless of the
reason for the absence. Makeup work must be initiated and completed by the student, unless the teacher makes other arrangements with
the student. Violations of this policy may result in a grade of zero (0). All makeup work should be completed with the teacher within three
days of the student’s return to school with the exception of tests. Makeup tests are given every Monday through Friday at 6:30
am. Students must take makeup tests on the first makeup test session following their return to school. Students with
multiple makeup tests are required to take a minimum of one test each morning until all tests are completed.
Students are expected to follow the policy and report to the makeup testing room on the day the student returns to school,
unless the absence has been for more than three consecutive days. Students do not have three days to take makeup tests unless
three tests were missed and one is taken each morning.
If a student will be absent due to a school-related activity (i.e. leading a retreat, an athletic contest, field trip, college visit, etc.) the
student is responsible for making arrangements with the teacher to take the test in advance of the absence. Any projects or
reports due that day should be submitted the day prior to the absence.
One final note on makeup testing: students are NOT admitted to the testing room late. Students should be in the room by 6:30
AM so that sufficient time is available to complete the test. The makeup teachers have to report to their scheduled class during
the first hour of the day, so students cannot stay longer than 7:25 when taking a makeup test.
4.0 GPA – 11% of all students
3.8-3.99 GPA – 7% of all students
3.4-3.79 GPA– 29 % of all students
3.0-3.39 GPA – 22% of all students
So, 69% of all TCHS students had a 3.0 or better GPA for the First Quarter.
Less than 3% of our total student body had under a 1.5 GPA for the First Quarter.

Pro-Life Rosary
A BEAUTIFUL Pro-Life “Living” Rosary was held
in the RebelDome on Thursday, October 1st. As
each prayer of the rosary was recited, a 2nd grade
student from St. Genevieve Elementary School
presented a rose at the foot of the Our Lady’s
Statue. In a special way we were able to show our
respect for life and honor those who are unable to
speak up for themselves!
Thanks to Mrs. Kristina Lavergne, the seniors class, and
SGS 2nd graders for their efforts!
TCH Freshmen Class Retreat
The Freshmen Retreat was held
at the Dupuis Center on October
30th! The retreat provided an
opportunity for the freshmen to
get to know one another and
deepen their desire to know
Christ more through Adoration,
reflection and prayer.
Special thanks to the Campus
Ministry Class for helping to
make this retreat special!
Girls For God is open to all female students every other month in Room 18. Ministry
students lead us in prayer, recite scripture, and
relate it to our desire to become Women of
God. Come join us for our next Girls for God on
Wednesday, November 11th AT 7:10AM.
Spirit Renewal Night
Our first
was held in the Chapel on Wednesday,
October 7th. Student ministers came together
in fellowship, prayer, and reflection as we
focused on God’s desire to be close to us and
closed with a blessed Adoration. We will
continue to come together every other month
to nurture those who minister on campus!
In October, all freshmen
participated in a class
service project at Amelia
Manor Nursing Home!
Each freshmen religion class
took turns visiting the Amelia
Manor residents, bringing
them Halloween cards
with inspirational and
spiritual quotes to brighten
their day! Thanks to Danielle
Farris and George
Stonecipher for their efforts
in this life-giving project!
PLEASE JOIN US
IN WORSHIP:
Weekly Masses and
prayer services every
Thursday at 8:34 AM in
the Rebel Dome.
Attention Parents: Join
us for a rosary every
Friday morning in the
chapel at 7:15 am to
pray for our TCH
family and teens!
Available for
Confession!
Confessions will
be heard in
the chapel every other
Wednesday from
10:15-11:15am.
See the school
calendar for scheduled
dates.
PARENTS…Come pray for our teens!!!
Adoration will be held in the Chapel on the
First Friday of every month throughout the
school year. In order for this to occur,
someone must be in the Chapel at all times
during Adoration. We invite parents and
alumni to sign up to come pray for our
school and our teens and be in the presence
of the Blessed Sacrament for an hour on
these days of Adoration. If you are
interested in signing up for an hour, you
can contact Ramey Badeaux by e-mail
[email protected] or by phone
337-735-9287.
See school calendar for scheduled dates.
