Every March the chamber partners with DPISD to sponsor a “career
shadowing” day. Members are invited to take part by offering to host a
student at their business for the day. This provides the student with an
opportunity to get actual hands on exposure in a field that may one day
be their career of choice.
Business owners who take part in this event provide students valuable
insight into the day to day operations and responsibilities of running a
business. Participating students will also be the guests of their chamber
host at our luncheon.
Aaron Warren, a product of Deer Park High School, will be the speaker
for this event. Aaron graduated in 2003 and attended the University of
Houston where he majored in advertising and minored in art history. During his freshman year he founded invertedADVERTISING, a projection
based media company that specializes in beaming creative ads onto the
floor at high traffic locations. By his senior year Aaron had landed his first
major account, the Houston Astros and Minute Maid Park. invertedADVERTISING has partnered with one of the largest independent agencies
in the south to form 4DX media. Besides spending time with his new
spouse, Aaron now spends his days traveling around the country, meeting with professionals and college sports teams, as well as some of the
largest retail centers in the country.
This luncheon will take place on Thursday, March 26th at the

BEAUTIFICATION AWARD CANDIDATES
Each month chamber Ambassadors present a Beautification Award
plaque to a member in our community who’s premises stand-out as
having received an extra measure of TLC. If you notice such a business,
please pass their name on to the chamber staff by calling 281-479-1559.
In addition to a plaque, the recipient has a sign recognizing their beautification efforts placed in their yard for a month. They are also invited to our
next luncheon to have the award re-presented.

History of Saint Patrick
Even though Saint Patrick the patron saint of Ireland and
one of the most celebrated religious figures around the
world, the factual information about his life and times is
quite vague. Most information about St. Patrick has been
twisted, embellished, or simply made up over centuries by
storytellers, causing much ambiguity about the real life of
St. Patrick. However, there are some elements of his story
about which most scholars accept to be true.
At the age of sixteen he was kidnapped from his native
land, the Roman British Isles by a band of pirates, and sold
into slavery in Ireland. Saint Patrick worked as a shepherd
and turned to religion for solace. After six years of slavery
he escaped to the Irish coast and fled home to Britain.
While back in his homeland, Patrick decided to become a
priest and then decided to return to Ireland after dreaming
that the voices of the Irish people were calling him to convert them to Christianity.
After studying and preparing for several years, Patrick traveled back to Ireland as a Christian missionary. Although
there were already some Christians living in Ireland, St.
Patrick was able to bring upon a massive religious shift to
Christianity by converting people of power.
But Patrick's desire to spread Christianity was not met
without mighty opposition. He laid the groundwork for the
establishment of hundreds of monasteries and churches
that eventually popped up across the Irish countryside to
promote Christianity
Patrick's mission in Ireland is said to have lasted for thirty
years. It is believe he died in the 5th century on March 17,
which is the day St. Patrick's Day is commemorated each
year.
The first year St. Patrick's Day was celebrated in America
was 1737 in Boston, Massachusetts. The first official St.
Patrick's Day parade was held in New York City in 1766.
As the saying goes, on this day "everybody is Irish!" Over
100 U.S. cities now hold Saint Patrick's Day parades.

The year is speeding along and the heat and humidity will be here sooner than we realize. I don’t know
about you, but as much as I enjoy a nice looking
lawn and flowers in bloom, I appreciate a few
months of yard work downtime – no weeding, trimming or ants!
Are you sticking to your New Year resolutions including becoming more actively involved in your
chamber? There are plenty of events to keep you

Thanks again to our outstanding Mayor, Wayne
Riddle for delivering his annual State of the City
Address to our membership. I always find his presentations interesting and informative. An added
luncheon bonus however is the additional networking opportunities this luncheon’s high attendance
generates.
To all of you who attended the Community Prayer
Breakfast on March 4th, it was a wonderful way to
begin the day. We were all very motivated by the
spiritual message of Pastor Randy Weaver. And
“THANK YOU” to the committee who worked behind
the scenes to pull the event details together...what
an outstanding job!!
The Leadership trip to Austin is March 9-10. This is
when 40 people visit with our state legislators and
view the Senate and House sessions. Attendees
travel by chartered bus, stay overnight and “eat very
well” on this educational excursion. Cost is $165
per person and space is limited. Contact the chamber today.
March’s luncheon is on the 26th at the Battleground
Golf Course and we will be hosting our Student
Shadow Day with a focus on youth. Aaron Warren,
of invertedADVERTISING will be giving a motivational speech on success. This is a powerful program centered around the community’s future.
March already, I do love this time of year. The end
of winter and a time of new energy and rejuvenation. We hope you will rejuvenate your enthusiasm
for chamber involvement.

Brewed Awakenings
Casa Ole’
January 2009 marks Brewed Awakenings first anniversary with a spectacular team under the new management
of Druscila Currin and Brian Doxtader. This year they had the
opportunity to cater "Solo Live" as well as "A Growing Marriage
Conference" serving over 850 people at First Baptist Church in
Pasadena. They want to personally thank First Baptist and
look forward to serving them once again.
Other Brewed Awakenings family activities have includes two outdoor concerts, and a Battle of the Bands. They
have also had acoustical guitar singers, piano music, karaoke,
and bands ranging from 2 to 4 members on Saturday nights.
Their menu items include Pannini sandwiches, and a variety of
soups. Also, don't forget their scrumptious coffees, drinks, ice
cream, pies and much more!
The original Casa Olé Mexican Restaurant opened
December 1973 in Pasadena, Texas by Larry Forehand.

The 36 Annual Pasadena Strawberry Festival is
coming May 15-17 to the Pasadena Fairgrounds. This year’s
theme is “Berries on the Bayou” and they are inviting all
businesses to participate in the parade on May 9th. There will
be many specialty acts to entertain you, including a Guitar
Hero Contest.
Put on your dancing shoes for Main Stage entertainers that include Aaron Watson, Wade Bowen, Josh
Ward, Hunter Hayes, Wayne Toupes and Keith McCoy CEO
Band. Don’t forget to get a piece of the World’s Largest

SPJST Lodge 172 is a non profit fraternal organization insuring lives since 1897. They are located at 3609
Preston Ave. New members are always welcome.
They offer a C&W dance open to the public with a
live band on the first Saturday of the month. They also have
a Saturday night variety dance with a DJ. Free admission is
granted for children under 12, handicap and military personnel. Dances are from 8 am to 12 midnight and the dress
code is casual. They have a large dance floor and plenty of
well lit parking. Drinks, snacks and coffee can be purchased at the kitchen. For information about hall rental for

Diversity Day Activities of Deer Park
A New Dawn Pet Adoption Center
Diversity Day Activity actively engages mentally challenged
adults to participate in various areas such as; arts, crafts,
community recreations, computer training, prevocational
and vocational skills and speech enhancement services.
The Deer Park location is one among three in the Houston
area.
Dawn Kubitz is an angel to animals in the area. A New
Dawn provides homeless animals with a warm bed, food,
shelter and the chance to find a new home with a loving
family. Their goal is to help pets make the transition from the
shelter to a "loving home", while educating the public on how

most of our lifetimes. Prior to this, our only knowledge of seriously troubling financial times was via documentaries or history books covering the Great Depression.
