Medical West consists of a newly renovated, 310-bed acute care hospital and 13 outpatient health
centers serving the communities of West Jefferson County and West Hoover. The hospital offers a
wide range of diagnostic, surgical, medical, and emergency services. Hospital services include: a 21bed Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Women’s Center, Telemetry Nursing Unit,
Geriatric-Psychiatric Unit, Surgical Services, Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility, and Advanced Wound
Center. In addition to the $15 million main campus renovation, the hospital recently became home to
the state's first Freestanding Emergency Department (FED) off Highway 150 in Hoover. The new,
24,342 square foot FED consists of 10 exam rooms, including: two trauma rooms, CT, X-ray,
ultrasound, EKG, laboratory and room for expansion. For more info, please visit the Medical West

The Chamber Ambassadors School Supply Drive was a huge success. Over 55
backpacks with supplies were donated to the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist
church. Children from Kindergarten to High School received the backpacks.

Governor Bentley Speaks to Chamber Members
Governor Robert Bentley was the guest speaker for the Chamber membership luncheon on July 31 st.
Hundreds gathered to hear the governor speak. We know that the state is facing a budget crisis. Governor
Bentley covered a lot of issues during his speech. Governor Bentley during his speech stated that “We must
pay our bills” therefore difficult decisions have to be made. It was a very pleasant environment and a great day
for the Bessemer Area Chamber of Commerce.

Kaylyn's (Food For The Soul) is a restaurant that caters to
those who love soul food. We believe in serving the
traditions of home. The restaurant is the culmination of a
dream that resulted on larger scale. Rodricus (Rod)
Hunter, owner, held a Grand opening on May 10, 2009
with family, friends, and eager customers.
The restaurant is opened Sunday through Friday. It has a
small staff that delivers big each day. Food is cooked fresh
daily by cooks who consider cooking a first love. Daily
menus offer a variety of soulful dishes to choose from.
Customer meat favorites are Turkey and dressing, Ox
Tails, Meatloaf, Pig Ears, Beef Tips, and Salmon and of
course that Southern Fried Chicken seasoned with
Kaylyn's secret seasonings. Vegetable favorites include
fried corn, greens, macaroni and cheese, and green beans.
Our motto is to "Satisfy the soulful appetite through good
food and great service." Five years going strong and there
is no stopping them.
