We then travel on to Anglesea Golf Club to see wild Kangaroos roaming around. We then wind along the spectacular cliff top road stopping for photos and stories at the most scenic spots including Bells Beach. Lunch is in the beautiful seaside village of Lorne. It has a great range of shops, cafes and restaurants with great food as well as safe beaches for walking or swimming. After lunch we travel more of the road stopping to Koalas before driving into the Great Otway National Park’ for a walk at Maits Rest’. This is a 1km rainforest walk through some of the best native forest in Australia. This lush forest dating back 100 million years is highly protected and has amazing examples of Mountain Ash Eucalyptus, Tree Ferns and Myrtle Beech. This is a truly amazing walk that is often overlooked . The accommodation tonight is set high on a hill overlooking the Southern Ocean near Apollo Bay. This is the perfect place to relax and unwind before dinner at the Apollo Bay Hotel. Day Two: Today starts with a continental breakfast in Apollo Bay. Our first stop is the 12 Apostles. Here you will see the creation and erosion that has shaped this coastline over the past 20 million years. Helicopter rides available at own expense. The next stop is Loch Ard Gorge, where in 1878 the Loch Ard’ carrying 54 people was wrecked with only 2 survivors. We tell of Tom and Eva’s struggle while reading their diary notes and handing around original artifacts from the ship. Return to Melbourne via an inland route travelling through Colac and Geelong. Arrive in Melbourne around 6.00pm Includes tour guide, 1x dinner, 1x breakfast & morning or afternoon tea: $848 per adult twin share 3 DAY MELBOURNE TO ADELAIDE TOUR Day One: After a personalized hotel pickup depart Melbourne via the West Gate Bridge. Travel through vast volcanic plains to Geelong, have time to stroll along the beautifully transformed waterfront. Stop along the coast at Bells Beach, a famous surfing beach. Observe Eastern Grey Kangaroos in the wild. While winding our way along we stop to view the Arch. Lorne is the largest of the seaside resorts and is a perfect place for a lunch break. You may even find time to have a swim or do some shopping. After lunch stop at many scenic spots including Kennett River where we can see koalas and many colourful native birds in the wild. Travelling through Apollo Bay we go into the Great Otway National Park. Take a 1km guided walk through a rainforest gully to see the world’s tallest flowering plants, prehistoric trees and ferns and unique features such as ‘Yabbie Chimneys’. Visit Apollo Bay before checking in to ‘Beacon Point Ocean View Villas’. This amazing setting is a great place to relax and unwind for a couple of hours. Dinner tonight at the very popular Apollo Bay Hotel, this restaurant has an extensive menu and utilises great local produce. Day Two: Today starts with breakfast at the ‘locals favourite’ Bay Leaf Cafe. Travel through the Otway ranges and onto the Shipwreck Coast’, first stop Castle Cove overlooking the Aire river valley. Your guide will introduce you to the strong Aboriginal heritage of the region with many tribes living prosperously around the coastline for thousands of years. Arrive at the 12 Apostles one of Australia’s Icons of natural beauty. After hearing of the creation of the stacks and holding some of the limestone rock you can explore the boardwalks or brave a helicopter flight along the coastline (own expense). We then visit ‘Loch Ard Gorge’, the site of the most famous 19th century Australian shipwreck. Port Campbell is our lunch stop for today. The small fishing village of just 350 is set in a beautiful natural port and has some wonderful cafes. After lunch our journey then continues through Warrnambool and onto Tower Hill Game Reserve where we have the chance to see and possibly feed emus then onto the picturesque Port Fairy towards Mount Gambier. Check into Chardonnay Lodge, set amongst the vines in the heart of the Coonawarra. Here we can indulge in the fine food and wine of the region. Dinner and breakfast are both at Chardonnay Lodge. Day Three: Visit to the Naracoorte Caves National Park for a cave tour with a local guide, continue our journey through the wine region of Padthaway as we head north through to Keith. We stop here for lunch. Travel through grain and stock land towards Adelaide. On our approach to city we visit the very popular tourist village of Hahndorf and Mount Lofty summit for impressive, birds-eye views of Adelaide and surrounds.
