Jess’s Jargon (Sports News)
Greater Western Region Athletics
From Pastor Jonathan
This Friday, the 16th of October, we have a number of students competing at the GWR Athletics in Ballarat. All students have been sent
home with event information and a full program. We wish them all the very best of luck and know they will do a fantastic job representing
the school.
For he says,
“In the time of my favour I heard you,
and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now
is the time of God’s favour, now is the day of salvation.
(2 Corinthians 6:2)
Year 4 Hooptime
The Year 4 Hooptime team had their last training session on Wednesday in preparation for the tournament next Tuesday, the 20th of
October. A special thanks to Tamara Freijah for training and coaching the team. The boys have shown great commitment towards their
training each week and they will be excited to take on the other schools. We wish the team the best of luck.
Last week, I wrote about how, when we look to the future, we also look to the past,
to where we have come from. You can’t do that, though, without looking at where
you are now. The past leads us into the present. The things that happen to us right
now are caused by things that have happened before. For example, many years
ago, I was encouraged to study for the pastoral ministry by my pastor. This led to a
long period of wondering whether that was the path I should follow, and after
prayer and discussion with my wife, I entered a program of ministry training. This
led to me being approved as a pastor by the Lutheran church, which led to me
being called to serve here in Horsham, which led to me moving here with my
family. Now, here I am, serving as a pastor here at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church
and School. If things had happened differently for me, I would be doing something
else, somewhere else.
Year 6 T20 Cricket
Next Tuesday, the 20th of October, our Year 6’s will be competing at the local T20 Cricket day against other Horsham Schools at Dudley
Cornell Park. A note with more information will be sent home with students today.
Year 4 Soccer Day
On Friday the 30th of October our Year 4 students will participate in a soccer day to be held at Dudley Cornell Park with students from
other Horsham Schools. Year 4 students will need to wear their full sports uniform on the day. A note with more information will be sent
home closer to the date.
Year 6 Volleyball
I think that it is fun looking back and seeing how the choices that I have made and
the things that have happened to me have led to where I am now. Perhaps you
enjoy this, too. Sometimes, though, the choices that we have made and the things
that have happened to us might not be the best. Each of us has made choices that
we have later come to regret — that we can see were wrong. We have all had bad
things happen to us that may cast a shadow over our present. But we can’t change
the past. We can only deal with where we are now.
Our verse today reminds us that “now is the time of God’s favour.” Regardless of
what may have happened in the past, God saves us. Right now, we hear the
promise that God forgives the sins we have committed in the past because Jesus
took those sins to the cross. This is not just a promise for the future, and it is not
just a reference to something that happened a long time ago. Jesus saves us right
now.
6th
On Friday, the of November, our Year 6 mixed volleyball team will be representing the Little Desert Division at the Greater Western
Region Volleyball Tournament in Horsham. A note with more information will be sent home closer to the date.
Year 6 Excursion to Mr Mackley’s Underground House
As part of our inquiry into
‘Energy’ we were lucky
enough to be invited to
visit Mr Mackley’s energy
efficient house.
His house is completely off
the electricity grid, meaning
his solar panels and wind
turbine generate enough
power that he is selfsufficient. It was awesome
to be able to go inside and
walk on the roof of an
underground house. We
learnt so much during our
visit, especially about
design, ventilation, where to
place windows and how to
make a house strong enough to hold at least 2 metres of soil on the roof.
Thanks so much Mr Mackley for helping us with our inquiry, we think your house is awesome.
Year 6T students
Heavenly Father, thank you that you show me your favour at the present time.
Teach me to trust in the promise of salvation you give me through Jesus. Amen.
Good luck to the school
aerobics teams who compete in
Geelong this Saturday.

From the Principal
They had noted in our Project Plan that our enrolments for the next four years are extremely
strong, in fact the equivalent of a full Prep class could not be accommodated in 2016 under
our present class structure. Their challenge to us was to rethink our strategic direction for
the school and introduce a third Prep class next year and therefore begin the process of
triple streaming our primary school. You can imagine the look that passed between
Mr Wallace and myself as our brains whirred into overdrive! The ensuing discussion made it
very clear that this growth would not be for the sake of just becoming a bigger school and
any self-congratulations that that might bring, but because it would strengthen our case to
LEVNT, the Council for Lutheran Education and our District Church Council to proceed
through to the senior secondary years. A triple streamed primary school would offer a very
solid base on which to grow our secondary school.
My request to you at this moment is that if you are aware of anyone who may be interested
in enrolling their child in Prep here in 2016, please have them phone Sue in the Office as
soon as possible to express their interest.
On behalf of the School Council, I look forward to keeping you informed.

University of NSW English & Maths Competitions - ICAS
Congratulations to all the students who competed in the Maths and English
competitions last term. Certificates were presented on Monday at assembly.
ICAS - MATHS
Next year is very close and so to meet their challenging time-line we have begun to
implement a number of strategies to ascertain the potential demand for Prep places next
year. We would need a minimum of 18 students to make this a viable option as at the
printing of this newsletter we have 11 positive expressions of interest. Please note that we
are taking expressions of interest only at this stage because the final decision to move into
triple streaming will be made by the School Council. If there is enough interest to run a third
Prep class next year then the School Council will meet and as they always do, will consider
a whole range of factors and give due and serious thought to this proposal before coming to
a decision.

Preps 2016 & Year 12 Submission
Last week Mr Wallace and myself met with two representatives from Lutheran
Education Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania (LEVNT) as we fine tune our submission to
seek approval to introduce Years 10, 11 & 12 to our school. Our meeting with Mr Graeme
Huf, Business Manager, and Mr Neville Grieger, Assistant Director, was not only extremely
productive, but specifically challenging.
Awards
Imogen’s Jelly Beans in the
Jar Fundraising
Last term many of the students brought
money to school to participate in
Imogen’s fundraising competition for the
Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation.
This week we received news from the
Blue Dragon that the money has been
allocated to a little boy called Dinh who
has cerebral palsy. His family is
extremely poor and live on a boat in the
Red River. When Blue Dragon found
Dinh he had never been to school and
could barely leave his boat. He is in a
wheel chair which is very tricky to
manage on a tiny boat. The money
Imogen raised is going to be used to pay
for physiotherapy to help Dinh regain
strength in his legs and some
independence. Blue Dragon have been
paying for Dinh to go to school and they
hope that after extensive therapy Dinh
will one day be able to physically play
with the other students.
