of 53 after a years-long battle with cancer and other health issues. Dr. Ibnu was a vital force among

extend our thoughts and sympathies to those who knew him well.
Dr. Ibnu Widiyanto was a faculty member at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas
Diponegoro, Indonesia, a Lecturer of Management at the Undergraduate Program since 1989, and at

He contributed to promote ABEST21 accreditation as a member of the Peer Review Team and served
as a member of the Peer Review Team for PPM in 2015. He contributed to ABEST21 both his
professional commitment and personal warmth. When the on-site interview was held at the PPM on
November 13, 2015 in Jakarta (photo right), he delighted us with his sweet voice and led us to the
on-site interview successfully. Particularly, he bought a Tuttle’s “Compact Indonesian Dictionary” for
me and said “Please learn Indonesian heart.” Then, he was my teacher of Indonesia Language. We

A deep memory about Dr. Ibnu Widiyanto
His elder son, Andika Ibnu Praditya, S.Ars.
My Father,
On the 24th of February 2016, my father was asked by God to join Him in Heaven. A life changing
event that will truly affect our family and friends.
I remember when I was a child, he would be the one to teach me math.
After school when the other kids were out playing, I would be at home with my father to learn about
additions, subtractions, and multiplications.
He would be the one who supported me when I was learning to ride my bike.
He was my role model when it came to education as I would always try my best to always make him
proud.
That was my father, a caring and responsible person, husband, father, and friend.
My best memories with my father would be when I was actually massaging his feet.
His feet were usually rough and coarse.
But I knew that his feet were helping my father to do his job in order to make enough for his family.
But I knew that wherever he was going, it would always for the best for his family.
Whenever I was massaging my father, I would have this happy feeling, even though I never showed
it to him.
That was my father, a hard worker and diligent person, husband, father, and friend.
My father was known for his academic work as a lecturer.
He showed me that education is important.
A lot of students would look up to him for guidance when doing their thesis or dissertation.
He was one of the best academics that I have known.
He would frequently sacrifice eating to teach.
That was my father, a humble and kind person, husband, father, and friend.
My father was fighting a war against cancer.
A war that he never showed to us because all we knew was that he was healthy.
He would still frequently travel from Semarang, where he worked, to Jakarta, where he lived with us.
3
But not even once did he show that he had cancer, or even a glimpse that he had a severe illness.
At times he would say that he would not feel well, that he would feel nauseous. But after sleeping it
off, he would feel better.
That was my father, a strong and courageous person, husband, father, and friend.
Not until he was in the hospital did we know the real extent of his illness.
He had stadium 4 cancer which surprised and shocked us all.
When I heard the news, all I could do was cry. I did not know what else to do than cry.
There was this feeling of sadness that overwhelmed my body.
Doctors have told us that we were in a dilemmatic situation. A situation that doesn’t seem to be
curable.
Yet we tried to be strong, for my father.
On Wednesday 24 February 2016 at 11.50 am, God asked my father to join Him in heaven.
A day that I will never forget for the rest of my life.
A day where an irreplaceable person in our life has left us.
A day that will change our lives from this day on.
A day where we will need all the strength to get back up together.
Out of all the life events that have happened before, this one has become the most sad and heart
wrenching of all.
No one knows when death will come.
When God will call upon you to join Him.
When people will come together not in joy but in sadness.
When saying your name brings tears to our faces.
When memories become precious and valuable.
But life must go on.
My father would want us to keep our chin up and do well in school and at work.
My father would want us to keep being united together as a family.
My father would want us to keep loving and caring for each other.
My father would want us to keep being kind and humble.
My father would want us to keep praying to God every day.
That was my father, a humble, responsible, loving, caring, honest, kind, religious, and the best
husband, father, and friend.
I miss you Dad. But I will keep on praying so that we can be reunited together as a family in Heaven.
May God take care of you.
May God bless us all.
It has been a great honor to have been your son in this life. Thank you for all that you have done and
all the life lessons that you have taught us.

FEB Undip is deeply saddened by the loss of our
very own Dr. Ibnu Widiyanto, MA (Director of MM
2015-2019). He was a dear friend and caring
colleague. He is always going to be remembered
as a faithful friend, a joy to be around and a
person who was generous in sharing knowledge.
Some memories of me to Dr. Ibnu Widiyanto
Dean Candra Fajri Ananda, FEB-Universitas Brawijaya
I just heard that Dr. Ibnu Widiyanto passed away
on February 24, 2016. He was a valuable and
respected member of our peer review team for
PPM School of management. The effects of his loss
is being felt already by us who had the honor and
pleasure of working with him. I especially
remember his high concern in taking part of the
Indonesia’s study program improvement, and he
will always be remembered as one of the great
characters. He will always be in our hearts and
memories. May his soul rest in peace.
