A group of well-wishers assembled on the
water’s edge on the outskirts of Tacoma,
Washington, on August 23, 2013 at the Nordlund Boat Company and watched as the shipyard’s Marine Travelift hoisted a 111-foot new
custom yachtfisher and lowered it gently into
the waterway leading to Commencement Bay.
After a few more weeks, th e yacht was
ready to be put through her paces. With naval
architecture by R. Edwin MonkNaval Architect

Design, it is the shipyard’s first delivery in
2013 and indeed in a couple of years, as the
economic slump put the breaks on smaller
custom yacht projects around the world.
Meant for serious if not tournament fishing,
the latest Nordlund boasts large bait tanks
(with a 200-gallon capacity each) and a 7,000gallon fuel capacity that allows transoceanic
range (about 3,500 nautical miles) to go wherever the fish are. Twin Caterpillar C32 engines
provide the yacht with a top speed of around 21
knots and a 15- to 16-knot cruising speed.
But while fishing far and wide is th is
yacht’s primary function, that does not mean
it falls short on comfort and fun. She is,
after all, a yachtfisher. The master stateroom is a full-beam suite with private office,
vanity, sofa and large TV screen. Two additional cabins offer spacious accommodations for four guests. The forward section of
the lower deck, accessible from the pilothouse, is dedicated to crew quarters.

The yacht’s classic teak interior is by Sea ttlebased Yachts Interiors, a firm that works closely
with Nordlund. The large flybridge, which accommodates a tender and crane aft, is equipped
with barbecue grill, sink and a refrigerator for
outdoor dining, while the huge main-deck galley,
with its high level of finish, offers ample work
space and storage.
There is more to come soon. A 115-footer with
eye-catching wraparound glass and eye-catchingpaint is scheduled for an early 2014 delivery and
an interesting shallow-draft 106-foot yacht is to
follow a few months later.
Each of these projects, built in cored fiberglass,
is conceived and built as a one off, something
brothers Gary and Paul Nordlund have defined
as their family-owned shipyard’s niche. With their
personal touch, they appeal to yacht owners who
