UPCOMING EVENTS… I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend last weekend and that you were able to enjoy the glorious weather that came with the weekend. Fri 13 Mar — TA5 Assembly Tues 3 Mar—Fri 13 Mar Swimming School Audit Mon 9 Mar—Fri 13 Mar Bookfair The school was audited last week as part of its accountability Fri 20 Mar—Casual Dress Day process. This was a two-day process with the auditor going through Theme “Orange’ a number of areas including Receipting and Banking System (Excellent assessment), Purchasing and Payment System (Good assessment), Governance and Accountability System (Good assessment), Asset Management System (Excellent assessment) and Human Resources and Management Information System (Excellent assessment). There were a few areas that were found to have a minor impact if not addressed immediately but overall the school was found to be running a very efficient process in the assessed areas. Congratulations to Joan Caldwell, our Registrar, to Morag Forrester and Moya Gibson, our School Officers and to all members of the Finance Committee for your efforts in ensuring we maintain a tight rein on this area of the school. I will present a full report to the School Board at our next meeting on Wednesday 25 th March. ANZAC Ceremony I am in the final stages of applying for approval to conduct our ANZAC Ceremony under changed conditions for this year. The proposed format for the day on FRIDAY 24 APRIL is as follows: 06.30 a.m. ANZAC Service Commences 07.15 a.m. ANZAC Service concludes and breakfast is served by the P&C 07.45 a.m. Breakfast ends and classrooms are open for parents to visit 08.45 a.m. First teaching session commences 10.40 a.m. Break 11.00 a.m. Second teaching session commences 12.45 p.m. School day concludes SEMESTER 1 DATES 2015 DONT FORGET… NO SCHOOL CANTEEN ON Associate Principals Responsible for:- Term 1 Kindy, Pre-Primary, Year 1—Helen Demiris Year 2 & Year 3—Anne Alford Year 4,5 & Year 6—Richard Ewen Mon 2 February—Thursday 2 April Break Friday 3 April—Friday 17 April Term 2 Monday 20 April—Friday 3 July School Banking—Every Wednesday 8.10am - 8.45am undercover area Uniform Shop—Tues 8.00am - 9.00am & Thurs 8.00am—9.00am MERIT CERTIFICATE WINNERS 27 February 2015 Cooper Watts Riley Tait Sierra McMillan-Molner Bryce Bell Sarah Zuckernain Talyn Evans Coby Spillman Sienna Moorehead Vernice Soon Jack Harris Riley Booth Kaitlyne Gatt Mia Stappenbelt Georgia Foureur Ella Porter Leah Jackson Elen Hughes Bayleigh Hammer Lexie Mullaly Emer Jordan Matthew Haylett Levi Laurant Charlie Brierley Sky Basham Logan Nelson Matilda Waugh Rhys Heron Ciara Tasovac Madison Cox Callum Burns Lachlan Webb Luke Blasdale Lydia Arlandoo Josh O’Brien Calais Bakker Harvey Heys Tegan Gillespie Joshua Rogers Blayde Kirkby Emily Blaver Kiera Andrews Kofi Raffan Hannah Lockwood Kiera Denham Tegan Gregory Gabby Gleaves Elen Hughes Bayleigh Hammer PP1 PP1 PP2 PP2 PP3 PP3 TA1 TA1 TA2A TA2A TA2B TA2B TA3 TA3 TA4 TA4 TA5 TA5 TA6 TA6 TA7 TA7 TA8 TA8 TA9 TA9 TA10 TA10 TA11 TA11 TA12 TA12 TA14 TA14 TA15 TA15 TA16 TA16 TA17 TA17 TA18 TA18 TA19 TA20 TA20 TA21 TA21 TA21 KINROSS PRIMARY SCHOOL It is anticipated that most students will attend the Ceremony to commemorate 100 years of the ANZAC tradition. However, it is understood that not all students will be able to attend from the proposed start time and there will be supervision provided for students who are unable to be picked up from school at 12.45 p.m. I appreciate that the reconfiguration of the school day could pose some problems for parents which is why I am informing you as soon as possible. However, I believe, along with a large section of the parent body, that the opportunity provided with the Ceremony being as special as it is and very close to the actual day, that the inconvenience is worthwhile. YEAR 3 QUIET READING TIME I also understand that not all parents will be in agreement with what is proposed but again the uniqueness of the occasion cannot be underestimated and the opportunity to recognise the significance of the event in such a manner outweighs other situations on this at this time. Thank You. Staff Car Park The school appreciates the response from the parent body in relation to the restrictions placed on the staff car park. This area is now much safer and has resulted in more parents using the ‘Kiss and Drive’ in the mornings. There is a more organised flow of traffic around the school with it being distributed more evenly over the available areas. Thank you to everyone for your understanding in this matter and for rearranging your drop off places. Swimming We are into the second week of swimming and it has all happened with the minimum of fuss and bother. This is due in a large part to the organisation that parents have had in ensuring their children are well prepared for the swimming lessons. A huge thank you to you all for assisting us in providing an important part of your child’s education. Casual Dress Day This term’s scheduled Casual Dress Day to raise funds for Princess Margaret Hospital is Friday 20th March. The theme for this day is “Orange” as it is the same day as Harmony Day which has Orange as its theme. I look forward to seeing everyone dressed in orange so that we can support Princess Margaret Hospital. Fundraiser—E’Co Clothing Bin As part of our fundraising for the school we are collecting donations of CLOTHING/SHOES/BAGS AND BED LINEN ONLY. A bin has been placed in the compound adjacent to the bike racks. These items will then be forwarded to Africa via a company called E’Co Australia Pty Ltd. Email: [email protected], Website: www.worldofeco.com. The school will be given 35c per kilo for these donations. Now is a good time to clear out your wardrobes and cupboards and help those less fortunate than ourselves in Africa and at the same time raise funds for the school. Could all items please be placed in black garbage bags before placing them in the bin. If the bin is full please let the office ladies know. Thank you for your generosity. KINROSS KICK START – BREAKFAST CLUB We've had an amazing start to the year. Our new location - "The Classroom on the Hill" has certainly let us cater to the growing number of children that are attending each week and the children are loving the options of food provided. Some examples are french toast, cheese toasties, apple and cinnamon muffins, vegemite and cheese scrolls, fresh and tinned fruit, toast, fruit bread, baked beans and spaghetti, banana smoothies and hot/cold Milo. We find the children love the independence of choosing their own breakfast and having a chat with their friends and with this combination they tend to eat a lot more than at home, I know my two certainly do. So with all of this in mind, donations are always greatly appreciated. The following items are always needed - Milo, jam, eggs, longlife juice (apple and orange), margarine, fruit bread, cereal (no weetbix please we have plenty). I would like to thank those that have donated items already and for all the volunteers that I have every week, without them it wouldn't run so smoothly. I'd also like to say a huge Thank-you to Kinross Supa IGA who donate vouchers each week to help cover the costs. We hope to see many more new faces each week. If you have any queries please don't hesitate to contact me via the P&C email – [email protected] Thanks, Amie Croft. KINROSS PRIMARY SCHOOL GROWING TOGETHER The Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network (ACORN) The Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network (ACORN) is a secure reporting and referral service for cybercrime and online incidents which may be in breach of Australian law. Certain reports will be directed to Australian law enforcement and government agencies for further investigation. The ACORN is an online reporting facility for cybercrime. The ACORN will make it easier for the public to report cybercrime, get the information they need to protect themselves online and ensure agencies can respond more quickly. The ACORN will also provide a clearer picture of the cybercrime affecting Australians. This will help improve our operational and policy responses. The ACORN is a national policing initiative of the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments. You can report the most common types of cybercrime to the ACORN. Further Advice on Protection against crime http://www.acorn.gov.au/protection-prevention/ Lifeline (13 11 14), beyondblue (1300 224 636) If your child sees illegal or inappropriate online content please report this to ACMA’s online content complaint form. If you suspect an adult has engaged in inappropriate activity involving a child, call the police immediately on Triple Zero 000 (if it is an emergency) or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. If you are being bullied or harassed or have seen abusive or inappropriate content on social media, you can report this to the relevant social media provider. The process for doing this is slightly different for each site: Facebook – You can report abusive content on Facebook by using the Report link that appears near the content itself. Facebook’s How to Report Things page has instructions on how to report abusive content for the different features. Twitter – You can file a report that someone is posting abusive messages by going to Twitter’s forms page. More information on Twitter’s policy on abusive behaviour is available at the How to Report Abusive Behaviour page. LinkedIn – You can report inappropriate content that violates LinkedIn’s Community Guidelines or User Agreement by flagging it directly from the site. Your identity will not be shared if you flag an item. You can also report spam, phishing and other suspicious messages. After reviewing reported items, LinkedIn will take them down if necessary. YouTube – You can report content that violates YouTube’s Community Guidelines by flagging it. Flagging videos does not take them down straight away, but sends a report back to YouTube staff to review the flagged video. More information on flagging videos is available at YouTube’s Community Guidelines Violations page. To report a case of harassment, privacy or bullying, you can visit YouTube’s Help and Safety Tool page. Instagram – You can report inappropriate photos, comments, or users that are in violation of Instagram’s Community Guidelines or directly to Instagram with the built-in flagging feature. You can also report serious cyber-bullying or stalking behaviour to the ACORN if the conduct is intended to make you (or the victim you are reporting on behalf of) feel fearful, uncomfortable, offended or harassed. Support for children Children can be particularly vulnerable online. They may become victims of cyber-bullying, targets of online grooming or be exposed to inappropriate online content which involves concepts they are not developmentally ready to manage. Children often do not tell their parents about online incidents, in fear that it will make the situation worse. This may be damaging to a young person’s health and wellbeing, particularly if they have already experienced mental illness or trauma. If you know or suspect that your child has been a victim of cyber-bullying or any other type of cybercrime, it is important that he or she feels comfortable to speak about the incident with you, a teacher or another trusted adult.
