18 years ago, Karujet is now known as the most
difficult jet ski race in the world.
The story of two men...
This race, which was in the first place a challenge between two friends to
go around Guadeloupe, became a circuit which attracts the best national
and international pilots.
In accordance with security and environment rules , year after year a high
speed pursuit takes place at the heart of the Caribbean, on turquoise water, in a idyllic landscape: the unique offshore championship of the UIM
A fair play battle in which the best brand of the world (Yamaha, Kawasaki,
Sea Doo) compete against each other under the aegis of the FFM and the
UIM.
Guadeloupe situated at 6 249 km of France dazzles with its beauty, fill pilots with wonder and makes engine suffer. Its butterfly shape, surrounded
by the Caribbean sea on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other,
makes the circuit particularly difficult. The 600km circuit, with alternation
of waves, swells, and dead calm has lots of surprises in store. Men and
engines will have to fight fiercely for 4 days.
...and a race.
From the 2nd to 5th of April 2015 the beach of Viard
will host the 18th edition of the Karujet.
From the 2nd to 5th of April 2015 the beach of Viard will host the 18th

2014 flashback
Last year, the 17th edition of KARUJET kept its promises
with unforeseen events and cold sweats …
because of their determination
Men suffered, engine broke down … and climatic conditions did not help
at all. Indeed the sea was intermittent and rough hence a lack of visibility
for pilots.
Pilots suffered annoyances and had to face waves over 2m in the canal
of les Saintes.
Under the shrewd eyes of Thierry Scharff ( race manager) and his commissioners, assisted with maritime affairs and Fabrice Lesmenager, participants have redoubled their effort not to miss anything.
One thing is sure, KARUJET is really the most difficult race of the world
when it comes to UIM offshore competition (Editors’ note: the medical
service had to intervene at several times because of broken ribs, torn
ligament …)
They have marked their name
in the competition!
At the begining, Lucas Granger (Guadeloupe #33) was leading respectively followed by Ugo Fidelin (Martinique #64), Chris Mas Clugage (USA
#111), François Medori (Corsica #4) and Teddy Pons (Var #14). Two days
later, Lucas Granger and Teddy Pons gave up because of mechanical problems.
At the 4th stage, Ugo Fidelin (Martinique #64) was outdistancing
Vincent Karam (Guadeloupe #5) of only 26 seconds.
The least that we can say is that Guadeloupe held its breath…
Launching of the 5th stage : Vincent Karam did not make a good start and
get outdistanced round after round. The feisty Alexandre Barret (#130)
wins the race (less than 5 minutes for one round) followed by Jean-Bruno
Pastorello (#8), former KARUJET world champion.
That being said, 2014 has really been Ugo Fidelin’s year, constant and
prudent he won a magnificent victory and put his name at the top of the
list in front of the cameras of Guadeloupe première, canal 10 , AntillesradioTV.com and Caseproductions coming from Turkey).
10
As always , comments of the race
were signed Jean-Pierre Ferté from
RCI.
The village was lively :
Visitors were able to follow the
competition thanks to giant screen
put in place by numericable and Kronotek.
Activities proposed by the Région
Guadeloupe , the town of Petit-Bourg,
and the partners including NRJ and
Trace FM put the place on fire ( giant
zumba, miss Contest …)
The shuttle service provided by Europcar has been really appreciated.
See you all in April
