Greetings from the Hadi Drum and Bugle
Corps. I hope everyone is enjoying the last
warm days of the season.
The circus ticket sales kickoff has been
held and now it is up to all of us to do our part
in selling as many tickets as possible. The
circus will be here before we know it.
Since it is October, that means the West
Side Fall Festival parade is upon us. Let’s
make every effort to put a large group on the
street for this popular parade.
A large group from the Drum & Bugle
Corps enjoyed the “Hadi Family Picnic” held at
the Discovery Lodge at Burdette Park. The
food and fellowship was great and the facility
was “top notch”. On top of that the D & B
under the leadership of two of our newest
members, Tim Goin and Brian Lucas were
declared winners of the Bar-B-Q contest.
These two nobles along with their helpers are
to be congratulated on a job well done.
As this is being written, a group from the
Drum & Bugle Corps, are getting packed to go
to the Great Lakes Ceremonial in Rockford,
Illinois. More information about this journey will
be forthcoming in the next issue.
We are trying to locate two (2) snare
drums. These drums are identified as #5 and
#12. If you have these in your possession and
are no longer active would you be so kind to
return them to the unit. Anyone else that has
any equipment that is no longer being used, it
should also be returned.
Please make a note that the Hadi Stated
Meeting will be held on October 26th. The D &
B has won the trophy for the greatest number
of members present at the previous two
meetings & we want to continue this tradition,
so please make every effort to attend.
October dates to remember: Oct. 8th D &
B stated meeting; Oct. 9th Fall Festival Parade
& Oct. 26th Hadi Stated Meeting.
It is now “Quest for a Million Pennies”
time. I like going to Jasper to collect money for
the Transportation Fund because I can always
get a good story for this article.
We left at 6:00 a.m. and stopped at
McDonald’s for breakfast (we always go to the
better restaurants). As we were finishing a lady
came by to thank us for what we do. She told
us that her nephew was a patient at our St.
Louis Hospital. He was not expected to live
beyond 6 months: he is now 51. Another lady
told of her granddaughter who had gone to an
Indianapolis hospital for 12 years. They took
her to St. Louis & “got the greatest treatment”.
She is fine today thanks to the Shrine Hospital.
Isn’t it great to be a part of Hadi and helping
kids in this way!

Patrolmen, the Officers of the Arab Patrol
would like to give all of you a BIG THANK
YOU!
Thank you for your increasing
participation at our monthly 1st Friday
meetings. Thank you for realizing that when
you come to parade with us, it makes a
difference! Thank you for stepping up and
volunteering your time to help the Patrol out at
the Fall Festival and the Circus. You see; it
takes dedication from each and every one of
us to make this team strong. There is not any
one of us that can make it happen. It has to
be all of us working together to accomplish the
very important goals that we have set before
us. We want you to know how important YOU
are to THE TEAM, and we appreciate all that
you do!

prizes. The wheel barrel will be full of booze to
win! All Mariners are asked to start getting
their donated bottles to Dave Fitzsimmons or
the bridge. Doors Open at 5:30 and a great
meal will be served at 6:30 with a cash bar.
This is the Mariners biggest fundraiser for the
year, and we are excited that Chad and his

everyone there, and The Mariners hope to see

Mark Your Calendars: **10/20: Meeting
at River Camp. Dinner at 6, meeting at 7.**
Thanks to all those dedicated Mariners who
cooked at the Flea Market on Sept. 3rd, 4th and
5th. Thank you to Mark Heck for doing such a
great job with our smoker. It will make a great
addition to our grills and increase our presence
with our patrons. Our next and last cooking
event is October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Our cooking
efforts once again allowed us to donate $195
of our tips to The Hospital Staff transportation
fund in August and September. Great job!
Thank you to the Divan and our Potentate
Steve and Lady Lynda for an awesome
FAMILY PICNIC at Burdette Park August 22nd.
A lot of hard work goes into putting on such an
event. THANKS go out to Al Brandt and Dave
Wiley for representing the Mariners in the
barbeque contest. The chicken was
awesome!!! The Fall Festival is happening
now. Support your fellow nobles, clubs and
units while enjoying the festivities.
Circus Ticket Kickoff is full speed ahead
and Nov is right around the corner! Every
Mariner is encouraged to sell their two Mom
and Pop Books they received in the mail. Let’s
make it happen this year, and exceed this
amount earning us an additional 35% in
commissions and helping our great circus!
Ticket selling work days will be announced.
Call Cory on times, dates, and locations.
We do not want to leave any Mariner
behind on shore this year! Increased
communication is our main goal this year.
Thanks to Tim Hermes and our Commodore;
the new 2010 Membership Roster & Engagement Calendar is completed and ready to be
disbursed. Every Mariner is encouraged to
please come get your new 2010 Roster at the
next meeting. Bridge Officers; please be

any job we take on and generate revenue for
our club to help the temple and the hospitals in
any way possible! Our mission is to proudly
display “Having Fun, Helping Kids!” Come
jump in the boat of old memories and
friendships and see what the buzz is about!

NOTES FROM
LEGION OF HONOR
By Curran Wilkinson
Greetings to all from Hadi LOH. Man! Did we
ever have a fun-filled weekend in August at
Hadi LOH. It was an honor for all of us to host
the 35th Annual GLSA LOH Convention,
commanded by Paul O. Boling, PC, Hadi
LOH. Again, our thanks go out to anyone who
in any way contributed to the success of this
great convention.
With the convention past, we now need
to focus our attention to selling Shrine Circus
tickets. All LOH members please contact
Vice Commander Jeff Harris or PC Ed Mellor
to sign up for the dates and times you can
volunteer to man our ticket booth.
There are still a lot of parade dates left
for the year . Check your Hot Sands for times
and dates, or contact Marshal Wellmeier for
parade information.
As always, we are still soliciting new
members. If you are honorably discharged
from any branch of the Armed Forces and are
a Shriner, we need you. We meet the 4th
Monday at 6:30 PM in the Red Fez for our
meal, and then adjourn to the third floor at
7:30 PM for our stated meeting. We welcome
you to become a part of our unit.
As we always say, “It is an Honor to be a
member of the Legion of Honor.”
Curran Wilkinson, Adjutant
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
Having just completed our 35th Annual
Convention of the Great Lakes Shrine
Association Legion of Honor, I was asked to
give a report on the meeting.
After preparing for three years the day
came to kick off the meeting with breakfast at
the Holiday Inn & then off to Thunderbolt Pass
for 18 holes of golf. Mac McCarty was in
charge of the Golf Outing and other than the
weather he had everything to the “TEE”. It was
over 100 degrees but everyone had a good
time, with the food and fellowship.
Friday the registration was handled by
Curran Wilkinson and Ned Wellmeier and
everything went great. At our Opening
Session, Mrs. Audra Roach (granddaughter of
Past GLSA Commander Robert Addington)
sang the Star Spangled Banner and
O’Canada. Talks were given by Mayor
Jonathan Weinzapfel, Illustrious Sir Steve
Vessel and yours truly.
The Necrology was handled by Steve
Garrett and his staff and was a great occasion.
There were comments from several people
who go to these at lease twice a year, and
have for several years, and they said his was
the best they have seen. At times there was
not a dry eye in the house including yours
truly.
The Hospitality Room was staffed by Billy
Joe Bebout and Dale Hawkins and whoever
could work throughout the weekend. We had a
tour of the LST again hosted by Mac McCarty,
with Ed Mellor in charge of transportation. I
think about 20 people took the tour.
Saturday brought our business meeting
and the election of Roy Combs as 2nd Lt.
Commander. Roy is from Antioch Shrine in
Dayton Ohio. Finally we came to the formal
banquet, with about 150 people in tux or full
dress uniforms. The evening started with
beautiful music provided by our own Yolanda
Sowders. We had a wonderful meal and the
Change of Command Ceremony. We had
people from 15 Shrine Units as well as 5
International Officers.
I want to thank everyone who helped in
any way to make this convention a success.
With all the planning for the decorations and
everything for all the meals, with the Men’s
Luncheon, the Ladies Luncheon and the Men
and Ladies Luncheon, I want to say thanks to
each and everyone of you
HADI LEGION OF

WEIRD NOTES
By Sweet Rudy Love &
And That Notorious Camel Clyde
Well did you all miss us last issue? Clyde
and I attended a international camel herder
convention in Wilmington, Ohio where Clyde
won best in show in the parade division and
best overall Grand champion in strut, slip, slide
and parade formation. Well enough about that
trip. Wait till they get the bill for that one,
especially the party favors tab. Oh well, a
good time was had by all. Fatima stopped off
in Syrian country to visit her shimmy shaking
sister. The rest of the story next issue. I need
to clear up a few things from the last article:
the golf championship was won by our very
own Randy Eades {not Randy Travis}, Travis
Riggs, Most Honorable GLSOBA President
Charlie {Preacher} Anderson and none
other than Dennis “Big Stick” Gentry. Great
show fellas. Hey how about this miserable hot
weather. If you think it was hot where you
were, you should have gone to the Warrick
County Fair with the food trailer. We met a lot
of nice people and had some fun sweltering in
record temperatures. Thanks to all who helped. Several Oriental Band members attended
the wedding of Past Potentate & OB Bandsman John Hudson & the very Beautiful Bride
Lady Julie. Boy what a knock out pretty Bride!
Clyde, Sweet Rudy Love and all, wishing youall and the rest of the wedding party the very
best. The food was great and again a good
time was had by all. This was one for the
record books along with some announcements
that were made at the ceremony. We are still
practicing every Tuesday night ~ sounding
great. If you have any suggestions, let Director
Randy know. Now that weather is cooling off,
let's get out to parades and make OB
President Tony proud of us. Let’s not forget to
attend our Blue Lodge. This is where the
journey began. Please pray for our Brother's
and their families in order that they might
receive the divine blessings. Remembering our
young women and men serving our country, so
it will always be the land of the free because of
the BRAVE.
God Bless America And God Bless Them.

& Clyde The Notorious Camel

HADI SHRINE
MEMBERHSIP
COMMITTEE
“Everyone has a purpose in life…a
unique gift or special talent to give
to others. When we blend this
unique talent with service to others,
we experience the ecstasy and
exultation of our own spirit, which
is the ultimate goal of all goals.” Dharma
This year the Hadi Shrine is celebrating
its 100th Anniversary. In celebration of this
Centennial anniversary the Illustrious Sir Steve
Vessel has set a Recruiting Goal of 100
New/Restored Nobles.
Did you know that in the State of Indiana
approximately 25% of Master Mason are
Shriner’s? This means 75% of the men in your
Blue Lodge are eligible to become Shiners.
Now it’s up to each of us to get the word out to
these Brethren. By reminding them that within
each of our hearts lies the desire to be of
service to others. As a Shriner they will have
the opportunity to be of service to children.
You can remind them that the Shriner’s
Hospitals for Children consist of 22 Hospitals
that are located across the United States,
Canada and Mexico and since 1922 our
Hospitals have provided almost 1 Million
children with the best medical care available at
NO cost to their families.
That by becoming a Shriner, they will be
a part of the most prestigious organization of
men in the world. Also share with them, that
the Shrine offers its members; friendship,
fellowship, fraternity, philanthropy, pageantry,
ladies events, family activities and fun. That
we believe that the care for the less fortunate,
especially children who suffer from burns and
disease, is our institutional calling. That we
cherish independence under the law and
freedom with responsibility and as individuals,
we pledge ourselves to nobility of character.
Let them know that you are proud to be a
Shriner and honored to wear the Shriner’s red
fez which symbolically represents the white
apron of a Master Mason.
But we as Master Masons must adhere
to our original code of ethics when it comes to
recruitment. When selecting a possible
candidate for your Lodge or the Shrine, make
certain that this a man of high moral character.
That he has not been convicted of a felony
offense. Make certain that he has a belief in
the Supreme Architect of the Universe be
it God, Yahweh, Jesus, Allah, etc. Make
certain that the candidate is at least 18 years
of age. We must remember to keep the bar
high and not to lower our standards while
recruiting new members, because the Shrine
is not for everyone.
If you know of a man that may be
interested in becoming a Mason or a Shriner
have
them
visit
the
web
site
www.beashrinernow.com to watch a video and
to learn more about Masonry and the Shrine.
We also have brochures and DVD’s available
across from the Shrine office and in the desk
below the UCO mail boxes. We have a several
events that would be ideal for introducing a
candidate and their families to the Shrine and
the fun we have as being Shriner's.The 7th
Annual Motorcycle Toy Run is on September
26th and the Great Pumpkin Caper (Family Fun
Pumpkin Carving) Event is on October 29th . If
you have any questions please contact any of
the members of the Membership Committee or
