As a professional painter, I have had
the opportunity to be the first person
to paint many figures before they
even hit the market. The casting
of this figure surprised me very
pleasantly when I first saw it.
To make my job easier, I used
the book “Hetai” as a fountain of
documentation whose photos show any
details of uniforms and equipment that
you could ever need.
This figure was painted with acrylic
paints from the “Andrea Color” line.
Proving the versatility of these paints,
I used my airbrush to apply the base
colors of the uniform, the highlights
and the shadows. The rest was
painted with a conventional brush
using the same paints. I would also
like to recommend the use of Andrea’s
Inks which were used on the leather
elements, enhancing their realism.

HALLOWEEN!
Painting the
figure
by
Julio Cabos
Those of us who paint miniatures have
favorite subjects, and we always lean
towards them. For me, this Series is,
without doubt, one of mine for several
reasons:
First, the sculpting is extraordinary
which makes it easier to determine
how to paint the figure.
Second, the opportunity to paint
something outside the rigidity expected
on some historical figures lets me use
a more lively palette of colors.
The way the parts are broken down,
plus their precise fit, allowed me to
paint some of the parts separately
using the fundamental tool of my form
of painting, the airbrush, for the pants,
the smoking jacket, and the white
sheet under which the little girl is
hiding. I left the face of the surprised
grandfather until last to allow me to
have fun trying to combine the light
from the Jack-0-lantern reflected onto
his face with the inherent zenithal
lighting.
For those who are interested in
knowing more about how to paint this
figure, an article showing the painting
will be published in a future issue of
Figure International Magazine.
